Last I checked those run a pretty penny. You’ll definitely need to hit the high seas. As for the Robotech dub, you haven’t heard their Minmei “sing” yet IIRC. Just remember Mari Ijima initially disowned the role because it pretty much overshadowed everything she did (although she eventually came to terms with it and even reprised the role for the ADV dub), it was that iconic, so comparing it to Robotech’s singing is…yeah.

Missed Opportunities of Toonami History
Jman replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
During the OG Toonami days, there were three shows that the crew wanted that random buyouts prevented from happening - Slayers, which Fox Kids bought but never aired (because Lord knows there was no way around all the flat-chest jokes made at Lina's expense when she's the main character and everyone makes them),Vision of Escaflowne which Fox bought, but then gave up on because there was no way to edit the thing to their standards, and Magic Knight Rayearth, which Fox didn't buy, but was the result of some rather nasty infighting with Sega and the original rights holder since they thought it could have been a big show in tandem with a Sega Saturn game, but by the time they had finished arguing, the window had long since passed and the game was eventually just thrown to Working Designs as the Saturn's last official Western release. I think any of those would have been ideal, with my only concern being how much better Toonami would have been with the flat-chest jokes in Slayers. The AS Action era? Where do I start? How about half the stuff that ADV or Genon had but didn't meet their punishing standards for taste? Look, I may have substantially softened on Paranoia Agent over the years, but to say it wasn't the right show for the Action block at the time was a gross understatement. Or Moribito, the show they dumped at 3am and their one ad for said "this is going to flop, but we're gonna air it anyway." Was it any wonder they were all set to phase out anime before the Toonami block prank injected life back into the viewership? Being a fan of anime with AS action as your only source of material sometimes felt like being in a bad relationship. They knew they were the only game in town save the time AniMonday was a thing, and they were happy to lord it over the viewership. I think that's part of what screwed them over long term, they were so militant about being the only option, when streaming came along, and didn't beat you over the head about how you should be ashamed of watching this crap, they had no real way to present themselves as attractive, not helped by making their audience hyper-aware of the ratings and the effect it had on programming, then whining when the fans became self-taught experts on Nielsen graphs. -
The trains refuse to work. Combined with the fact that I usually clock in remotely and I’m worried someone will ask questions. Then again I hate this job so damn much.

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Jman replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
A dictatorship is actually shit for corpos, save those in the inner circle. Government control, seizure of assets if you back the wrong horse, etc. Most conservatives would rather a government with weak controls, which dictatorships notoriously have plenty of. -
2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Jman replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
The rich want a conservative government that doesn’t impede their profits. Not a dictatorship. If the GOP and their goals don’t align, they’ll make a new Conservative Party to replace the GOP. -
David Lynch's Dune sucked compared to Denis Villeneuve. But I kind of like the soundtrack to Lynch's a bit more, even if it was just more proof that Lynch missed the entire goddamn point of the novel. I'm still annoyed with Lynch cutting the Weirding Way. ""Kung fu on sand dunes would look silly!" Your whole goddamn movie looked ridiculous. You were the one who put Sting in that codpiece!

Last night was an old reliable. Ribeye steak, mashed potatoes, leftover sauce from the short ribs I made last week, and some salad.

Current age verification is a joke. But the issues from scanning and storing ID’s would be an IT and privacy nightmare.

Dune Part II - Next year’s Best Picture front runner. 9/10 for not having the Weirding Way accurate to the books but getting everything else right.

This oughta be fun. Let’s see who talks first, or who bounces for unrelated reasons.

Wandering around the internet, and even a few subreddits, I found out the following, thanks to a lot of the RT brass being pretty open about the situation on Twitter and their own podcast - 1. Rooster Teeth is shutting down in 60 days from last Thursday. During this sunset period, they're going to shut down their storefronts, their online service, and try to sell off IP to interested buyers under their own conditions. A former animator on RWBY/friend of Monty Oum, Dillon Goo, has expressed interest in buying the IP, but just about everyone doubts he has the cash, and thinks he's trying to position himself as the showrunner for who does get it. 2. If Rooster Teeth cannot facilitate the sales of its properties in 60 days, then Warner and Zaslav sell the IP to the highest bidder, no strings attached. While I'm pretty sure the biggest bid you'll get for gen:Lock is $10 and a free keychain if you sign in the next 30 minutes, RWBY apparently has interested buyers, hence the 60-day time period for Rooster Teeth to find an interested buyer with conditions, which would likely include hiring the current staff, continuing to animate in that busted-ass CG, and picking up where they left off. Suppose the buyer gets it from Zaslav after 60 days. In that case, it's going to be a reboot with none of the restrictions in animation, a brand new art style, and probably throwing out all of the baked-in restrictions in how the girls can be animated (apparently before he died, Monty Oum put in some notable restrictions on how the girls could be portrayed, such as no panty shots, certain types of outfits not being allowed, etc). 3. Seriously, no one is buying gen:Lock. I think if we all chipped in a buck and offered it to Zaslav, that would probably be the highest bid they get.

That’s my point though. They’re making due with what they have, which is assuredly better than nothing.

Well it's not like they could go out and buy Broly or Super Hero.
