I'm curious how this movie would have been received had Genndy's name not been so prevalent (Ignoring his work on shows like 2 Stupid Dogs, not to mention that he has frequently indulged in fart jokes and grossout humor, one Dexter's Lab episode is just an 11-minute setup for a fart gag). As it stands people were acting like this was Vivziepop making a remake of Fight, Iczer-One! or Wicked City.

No, they weren’t. I theorize this is like Nimona, where rescuing the passion project from the big mean company who wanted to write it off makes them more attractive to creatives, and it cost them a fraction of making a new movie from the ground up vs dumpster diving.

The Naked Gun (2025) - 8/10. Pamela Anderson should have done more comedies and parody. Also Liam Neeson learned the right lesson from Leslie, be as serious as possible even when the scenario is ridiculous.

The numbers were not great. It lost to that week’s episode of Raw and can’t touch K-Pop Demon Hunters. So after all that, the casual audience seemed mostly disinterested. Netflix will probably double down on anime after this for their adult fans since for the most part, it seems to clobber their attempts at adult comedy animation.

Hey this is true. Two weeks ago, someone dug up a Micronauts cartoon that was trashed for tax purposes to fhe approval of its head writer. The problem is I kind of felt that series needed to die because it dying was what let Hasbro finally unclench and allow Marvel to reprint ROM Spaceknight and The Micronauts in omnibus format.

Anyone who’s ever played Sekiro knows that title is a lie. There will be many defeats.

My point remains that even if you don’t like something, wishing physical harm on the writers and artists is not how you deal with it. You ignore it till their corporate overlords write it off for taxes and toss it in a hole to never be seen again, and let the artists and writers move on.

I do fully believe that “animation is cinema” types are in many cases complete hypocrites, and if they were around in the 70s would have wanted Ralph Bakshi’s head on a pike over Fritz the Cat, to say nothing of Coonskin. If it isn’t “realistic panic attacks” or some sort of LBGTQ+ sexuality story (ironic given the multiple sexualities in Fixed) then it’s open season for these Puritan types. And I’m not saying the movie is good. I found myself going to see Nobody 2 and found that a far better use of my time. But it’s not just the dog boner movie getting laid into it. Any shounen that shows titties, Panty and Stocking, it’s all fair game for these weirdos and freaks.

After that time fans of gay pairings tried to extort Dreamworks over released material to make a Voltron ship canon (which is why Amazon MGM allegedly is renaming everyone in their movie) I tend to side with the staff.

Nobody 2 - 7/10. Solid sequel to the original which as per the man himself, is Odenkirk trying to channel Jackie Chan. Climax makes up for a slower build.

I feel like it’s a pretty good story to tell. He gets into the show because his daughter did. They show up to a premiere with her in costume, then he gets a voice role. It’s not what I’d call a story with a small target audience. “My daughter couldn’t have given a shit about Magic Mike but is thrilled I’m in Demon Slayer.” Then again this might be why talk shows are on their way out.

Maybe not lure to the theater but get the word out on talk shows and the like. You can have Tatum on Seth Meyers or Kimmel discussing Infinity Castle. Not so much the usual VA’s.

Given the timeframes of their streaming debuts (DanDaDan is still debuting and is still in the Netflix Top 10 every week, while Mashle migrated from CR to Netflix in June) Mashle S2 hitting is the best case scenario. Not that I think anyone will mind given how entertaining Mashle is, it’s just much more likely given the timeframes.
