It'd be one thing if they were working with a lot of action-oriented IP or IP based on comics. After all, we got Suicide Squad Isekai out of that, and for better or worse it seems to be doing rather well. But this is Adult Swim, home of the Adult Swim Stoner Series. Nothing in the current list of stuff that isn't already anime benefits from an anime spin-off in the same way Highlander or the DC characters did, where it's taking these action properties and giving them a different lens. Hell, most of the shows relying on looking weird, low-budget, or otherwise, and this would be a square peg in a round hole. And as for the original action properties, the ones we have that aren't anime are desperately trying to imitate anime only without the stuff that makes Tumblr writers feel icky. So making it actual anime doesn't work. Making Invincible Fight Girl anime wouldn't fix it, it'd just make the Japanese viewers want to watch more Kinnikuman.

Issue #4 just hit physical and digital shelves today, and it remains a very good comic that leans into its retro-futuristic angle (Space Ghost saying "blast it" instead of "damn it" feels like something done to keep the vibe of the old show) while not being afraid to show Zorak rather gruesomely gut guards in the prison he escaped from. Anyway, as befitting Zorak, his first appearance is a two parter...to be continued next month. If you like classic HB action cartoons or pulpy space adventures, this is worth a read.

It’s worth noting that the Smiling Friends crew said they might do an anime episode, but would turn down a full spinoff. Adult Swim can’t do a serious Space Ghost like Dynamite is doing, so that’s out. Honestly, I don’t see it being a real sector for any of their shows. Hell, Rick is kind of taking the joke too far if you ask me.

When the rental market is dogshit, there is no "moving out" without taking on an excessive financial load. I hate my apartment. It's tiny, roach-infested, and the only thing I can see out the window is the windows of the building next door and the asshole staring, so the windows stay closed. But my family going "Oh, then move somewhere else!" is re-arranging the deck chairs on the Titanic for an extra $500-$800 a month. Unless I get a better job, which seems impossible, there is no leaving this...prison without bankrupting myself.

Kinnikuman Perfect Origin 4 Demon Slayer Hashira Training 6.

Deadpool and Wolverine - 8/10 A farewell to the superhero movies that came before the MCU juggernaut that kind of knows Phase 4 was bleh and runs with it to its benefit. Certainly a funnier fourth wall breaker than She-Hulk.

I almost booked a vacation somewhere in the middle of rainy season, with nonstop rain and thunderstorm warnings on the daily. Thankfully I got a full refund thanks to a rather busy call center extending the grace time for the refund. So crisis averted.

Jeff Harris shares his extensive thoughts on the state of Toonami
Jman replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I admit I wouldn’t be as hard on it if not for three things - Being on Adult Swim. Not having an original art style. Being introduced the same time Kinnikuman Perfect Origin is airing on Netflix. Compare the match in the preview of IFG to the Terryman vs Max Radial fight that’s the opener of the new season. It’s not a fair comparison. If you’re going to do an original art style wrestling show for kids and families, then you have some freedom, because at that point it’s an artistic expression. If you’re going to deliberately imitate anime, well, between Kinnikuman and Tiger Mask W, what does this show have that those don’t? The worst that happened with Unicorn was being a kids show that followed Primal, arguably Genndy’s most pure artistic expression in a show, and something so popular The Simpsons riffed on it. Big shoes to fill to put it mildly. -

Well there’s the tried and tested “Flop Girl,” “Invisible Ratings Girl,” and “One Season Girl”. For more specific insults, in addition to that one, we have “Tony Khan books Tiger Mask W,” and “Adult Swim Midcard”. -

I don't subscribe to the idea that geographic origin or nationality makes someone's work inherently superior or inferior. That's ridiculous and it always has been. What annoys me is that the few action shows we do seem to be getting from people not named Genndy Tartatovsky or made by a comic book publisher try to imitate anime, and then do a piss-poor job at it because they get rid of the style and the edges to make something blander, uglier, and more boring. The first episode of the show is available online in certain pockets. It's not worth defending. Especially when the action is so choppy, the designs don't work, and the whole thing feels like it was done by someone who watched five seconds of an anime, thought it was "probLEMaTIc!" and thought they could do better. The designs are bleh, the premise is stupid and not in a funny way, and the action doesn't work. This when we have perfectly fine Western animation that's hoarded on Max. I don't see this being an article if it's all bad - I think this is why I was talking up Creature Commandos so much. Because it looks different, and it has big names and big talent working on it. The sort of thing that gets attention. -

The biggest issue remains that Warner’s siloed content means that DeMarco lacks the resources a Netflix has. DeMarco can’t snap his fingers and get Sakamoto Days. -
Demon Slayer: Swordsmith Village premiers on 8/10

The arc is on Netflix, Hulu, and Crunchyroll. Also odds are by the time this does air, Netflix will have the Hashira Training Arc. What’s going to really screw over the Toonami airing is going to be the Infinity Castle movie trilogy because Toonami doesn’t do movies and Netflix is going to want those as soon as possible.
