I love FLCL. The original. Watched it in high school. That’s why this sequel is a risk. If it doesn’t live up to the expectations it’s going to make people more mad than if it was an original property . Toonami isn’t Netflix. They can’t invest in tons of shows on the ground level. If FLCL 2: Electric Boogaloo flops Cartoon Network will be loathe to let them try again. See - IGPX.

From what I understand they specifically sought out Japanese studios to cut costs, as opposed to He-Man, which had a very expensive cost because everyone was US Union. Also they did the same thing Transformers did where they got a talented Hollywood get to do a supporting role (In this case Earl Hyman, best know as Grandpa Huxtable on The Cosby Show, before everyone realized what a creep Bill was).

Legion > Gifted. I mean, I hear Gifted is fine, but Legion is...wow.

Can I point out the 80’s show...had surprisingly good fight scenes? You don’t get that from noodle people in CalArs.

Like I said, we’ll watch it tonight, and we’ll determine for ourselves. But for the life of me I do not remember any plot hooks or bait for sequels.

Alright, let’s have some fun with reruns. Watch this show. Tell me afterwards if you think it needs a sequel. If you do, explain why. This isn’t meant to be trolling, but an honest to God thought exercise on why this show, besides DeMarco’s self admitted nostalgia.

He’s not focused on romance with anyone living (long story) although Negasonic is in a relationship with a girl called Yukio...and it’s treated as perfectly normal. Well, the relationship, not Negasonic landing a girl.

SmackDown was also on USA Network for about two years. Before that it aired on SyFy of all places. This splits the roster in half between two networks but dramatically increases said rosters value.

Yeah, Rooster Teeth’s work quality wise is a step well below Powerhouse’s. That being said landing Killmonger for a role is pretty damn impressive Post Black Panther.

I could be a jerk and point out that show is pretty much Gundam, but it was supposed to be pretty good regardless of that fact.

God, someone is going to remake that as an overly cutesy romp soon, aren’t they? Animation from Sunrise BTW.

Probably the 8+ age group. It was trying (and succeeded IMO) to strike a balance between the overly comedic original show and the more comics accurate but kinda up its own ass at times 2003 series. The idea of advertising on Bellator was “Hey, remember this thing you liked as a kid? It’s back with better writing! And if you have kids, bring them too! They’ll love it!” Roar is “Hey, remember this thing you liked as a kid! It was for babies and we’re making it for babies if you complain you’re a man baby!”

The art director flat out said he was aiming for 14+. Considering the ratings, he was successful. The thing is, shows can do that and still deliver toys to the kids. You know where I saw the first ad for the 2012 TMNT? A freaking Bellator MMA card. They literally took two minutes between fights to show a clip from the first episode. That was clearly going for an older audience but kids were on board too.

The continuing decline of CN in ratings across the board forcing them to get cheap ass programming as cheap as possible (see this Thundercats Roar nonsense using super cheap animation to get a massive quantity out quickly in a similar manner to TT Go) is reflected further in what companies are paying for. Yesterday, WWE got Fox to buy the rights to SmackDown for a massive $1 billion (yes, Billion with a B) over five years in addition to NBC tripling their current pay to keep Monday Night Raw On USA Network. Not to be outdone, their legitimate sports counterparts, the UFC, signed an exclusive deal with ESPN to be on their networks and online service for $1.5 billion over 5 years. In both cases, companies are investing massive amount of capital in live sports both real and fake, while ESPN is going the extra mile to bolster their online exclusive content to stay relevant. Meanwhile ratings across the whole of Cartoon Network are in free fall.

Between all the yelling, the writing in Reboot the Guardian Code, the writing in half these shows from CaliArts grads, I’m convinced that Western animators are among the most self loathing people on the planet.
