  1. Do you prefer sleek or tank? Mild Bat-logos or full on Bat-branding? This is a nice car, but feels more like a souped up sports car than something decked out as “PROPERTY OF GODDAMN BATMAN.” Cool lights though.
  2. MHA’s movie was #4 at the box office, pretty good for a limited release (it easily eclipsed Two Heroes’ gross) but the Toonami ratings are down. The disconnect is more apparently every day.
  3. The question ends up being “Do you want Toonami to promote the shows or do you want the shows to promote Toonami?” Back in the day they worked in harmony. Nowadays it’s a lot more complex. I would argue the people that want the CR originals (Well, Tower Of God, God of High School and Shield Hero anyway) on Toonami want the latter. The people who want more exclusive stuff not beholden to streamers want the former. The Toonami audience from back in the day is getting older. I’ve said it before, but that’s part of why it’s nowhere near as toxic as the old ASMB days. We grew up, got jobs, started relationships, watched our niche hobby expand in such a way that we aren’t reliant on DeMarco as its sole tastemaker, etc. That importance can never be diminished, but as things change, its use will be...questioned. I still wonder if the endgame when HBO MAX launches is for WarnerMedia to align all its anime and non-DC, non Looney Tunes animation under the Crunchyroll umbrella. Crunchyroll presents Toonami may be the block’s future, in which Toonami remains a gateway of original shows and licensed acquisitions designed to lead people into the CR ecosystem. It will serve the same purpose as a gateway, just in a different way.
  4. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-03-01/my-hero-academia-heroes-rising-film-earns-usd5.1-million-to-rank-no.4-in-u.s-opening-weekend/.157007 Fairly nice haul for a limited release.
  5. 1. The original stuff they’re airing hasn’t connected with everyone, and I’m the first to laugh at the FLCL sequels. But it’s something you cannot get anywhere else and there is value in that. And let’s be honest, we all have something we like that isn’t super popular that we would spend money on. In my case, if I had a Netflix budget, I would green light a remake of Armored Trooper VOTOMS. It’s a good story, but I admit my own bias. Same with DeMarco trying to push FLCL. 2. That’s just it. Most viewers take Marie Kondo’s advice - Does it spark joy? No? Then move on. Wrestling is a big one. WWE wants to throw so much content that their viewers won’t watch anything else that they’re devoid of context, so they go to the competitor. 3. Giving people freedom, the ability to watch when they want, is infinitely preferable to any misguided sense of community from live viewing. It allows people to actually enjoy things they couldn’t otherwise. Are you telling me that JoJo on Netflix won’t get far more viewers than JoJo’s Toonami airings? So even if you believe “DeMarco dun goofed”, it’s his block, not an industry.
  6. It’s going to happen this year. Whether it’s worth a damn is another question entirely.
  7. So what I’m gathering from all this is Crunchyroll’s original content is so boring everyone has to focus on behind the scenes drama to entertain themselves. Meanwhile Netflix is preparing a Pacific Rim anime and a collaboration with CLAMP.
  8. JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure S2 1-2. Netflix has Stardust Crusaders. Regular people will know what it is now.
  9. I admittedly just wanted to go “Oh, that thing exists. Now how about the new wave of Korean properties being adapted to anime, which”...oh jeez I can’t even remember the last one. I remember years and years ago ADV had one but I cannot remember the name for the life of me. What I do know is that Webtoon has cornered the market on webcomics for the most part for good or for ill, and while a lot of their content is crap, both Tower of God and God of High School are incredibly popular.
  10. How is any of that supposed to help her case? She was part of the generation of self righteous idiots in comic books which is why no one reads comics anymore. She sucks.
  11. They realized that they had a bad product, and did their damndest to cover it up, but the Internet, Twitter NEVER forgets. They know Kate Leth is a misandrist douchebag, and the people will only be satisfied when they confirm the show has been cancelled. Especially these days when people make a living off of endless videos shitting on these morons for any perceived slight.
  12. Maybe they had gone too far to change it up, or were going to release it before the MAX launch. Twitter still has NOT forgiven Crunchyroll for funding it, or for hiring professional dangerhair Kate “Kill All Men” Leth. So yeah, fun times.
  13. I think even Crunchyroll sort of realized what they got into. They’re pushing the hell out of God of High School and Tower of God but kind of shrugged about everything else.
  14. Netflix? That means some original CG series, or a Magic Knight Rayearth remake.
  15. I meant first mined as part of a deal they penned a few months ago.
  16. The stockholders apparently, since this is how Crunchyroll is supposed to stay competitive with FUNi and Netflix.
  17. It’s a real game, and it’s official.
  18. The big news is the first mined property from Webtoon, The God of High School. Also, HGS lives, but if you announced THE GOD OF HIGH SCHOOL first people would probably be a lot more forgiving.
  19. I think a Marvel Ultimate Alliance style game would work, but these properties are the exclusive domain of Bandai Namco, so more arena fighters!
  20. Another year, another property, yet another arena fighter. I’ve said it before, but MHA would lend itself perfectly to an RPG ala Marvel Ultimate Alliance.
  21. Fury by TKO in Round 7. He fought the ideal fight, shutting down Wilder with his weight and some hard as hell shots.
  22. Main event set to occur at midnight EST. And the local watering hole is packed. They’re jammed to the rafters in here, with a record number of bars ordering the PPV, so I expect a huge buy rate, and less people watching Toonami 12-1.
  23. For reference, here’s the first fight - Who’s watching and who do you have?
  24. Mob Psycho 100 2 Dr Stone 2
  25. The sooner people realize Toonami is no longer the be-all, end-all for anime in this country the happier they’ll be. Time in memorial was that this was the only source for non-butchered anime in the US, but those days are over. The days of thinking On Demand is “sucking ADV’s luscious cock” are gone, replaced with the current abundance of content. If DeMarco wants to waste his money on FLCL sequels and Junji Ito stories no one will watch, it’s no longer a matter of life and death for the medium.
