  1. Yes, even with the proposed live action series languishing in a pocket of Development Hell, SAO chugs along.
  2. Either I’ve fallen way out or Adult Swim has lost a lot of viewership from its peak in a post Netflix world, but besides Robot Chicken, Rick and Morty, and obvious show of the year Primal, I’m hard pressed to remember a lot of these shows.
  3. MHA has low totals but ok demos. Granted, they were up against football, so this is kind of expected.
  4. So I take it I was the only one who played Astral Chain.
  5. And Toei signed off on this. At least if it is bad the fail will be contained. I have no idea what the Filipino studio system is like for international distribution. If it does go over well, Netflix probably will air it internationally.
  6. I dare not ask what that is. My point stands that this is straight the hell out of nowhere, I have no idea how the Filipino film industry is, and if it does get international distribution it will air on Netflix.
  7. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-01-02/philippines-gma-network-reveals-live-action-voltes-v-legacy-series/.154979 A live action version of a 70’s mecha is one thing. A live action version from the Philippines is something else.
  8. Japan seems into the “supernatural public service department” sub-genre this year. Anyone play Astral Chain on the Switch? Instead of super powered firemen, it’s cops with Stands.
  9. He did actually say it was one of the reasons! But the American company agreeing with him is due to the streaming wars and everyone wanting to make the next Thrones, I would gather.
  10. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-12-31/crunchyroll-reveals-most-watched-anime-of-the-decade-by-region/.154915 Naturally Naruto and Dragon Ball dominated, but NA found Black Clover to be one of its most viewed shows. Particularly in Russia.
  11. American company, American writers and producers, and it’s apparently been bought by a streaming service in Netflix whose whole thing is keeping their grip on the American market in the face of new competition. Not to mention the ginormous amount of cash being thrown at the series.
  12. 1. Even if you like the manga’s story, (and keep in mind I played Pirate Warriors 3 just to get relatively caught up a month ago) most people will contend that the anime...is a really bad adaptation of it. The pacing is glacial to the point of parody. The animation reflects the worst cost cutting methods of Toei. And you’re better off just reading the manga. 2. I remain fascinated by the franchise, since it is an institution literally everywhere but the US. Most of the people who wanted to beat down the lady who played Shuri when the fake rumor of her playing Nami hit? French. Despite 4Kids making “Yo Yo he took a bite of the Gum Gum” an eternal mark of shame, people still want to make OP a thing in the US. $9-$10 million an episode. For even an 8 episode, one hour per episode series, that is anywhere from $72-$80 million dollars. Enough money for most of this forum to live comfortably on for a very long time. And it’s being invested in trying to make One Piece the next Game of Thrones (even if The Witcher and The Mandalorian seems far more likely to capture that crown). I cannot be the only one who finds that fascinating.
  13. “Hello, I’m Toppo and I’m here to talk to you about Diabeetus.”
  14. It is pretty good. Full top 10 - 1. Ultraman 2. Neon Genesis Evangelion 3. One-Punch Man 4. Kengan Ashura 5. Attack on Titan 6. Nanatsu no Taizai 7. 7 Seeds 8. Dr. Stone 9. Cautious Hero 10. Arifureta Also of all the top 10 lists, Witcher and Stranger Things placed high, no sign of Dragon Prince, She-Ra, etc.
  15. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/interest/2019-12-30/hideaki-anno-details-his-falling-out-with-gainax/.154892 Also, shady AF business practices are implied to be what drove Imashi to leave and form Trigger.
  16. See, I presume this is why they want to make the live action version and give it Game of Thrones money. Am I the only one intrigued by the idea, even if it ends up being the most expensive trainwreck since Cats? It is so antithetical to what Americans like in their anime that getting people on board will be very hard.
  17. Someone wants to give this the GOT treatment. You know, at least The Witcher had popular video games.
  18. Just remember someone has the rights to a live action version of One Piece and wants to spend more money on it than Game of Thrones. Agree? Disagree?
  19. The show did well enough to justify another season. Which probably means we’ll see it edited on Toonami a few months after it shows up unedited on FUNiNow. If we were solely measuring quality would we be on SAO number what, four? Five?
  20. Ip Man 4 - 8/10 Great kung fu fights, good drama, kinda hilariously straw man villains, but they’re fun to see get beaten up.
  21. https://www.funimation.com/blog/2019/12/27/fire-force-season-2-2020-anime-funimation/?utm_source=social&utm_medium=org-social&utm_campaign=fire-force&utm_content=season-2-announcement-blog&utm_term= Despite a very tumultuous release including real life tragedies and comparisons to Trigger’s most Trigger production yet in Promare, the show has done well enough to secure a second season.
  22. It’s tough to say, but even if it doesn’t, no one will hold it against the show.
  23. June 27, 2020. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/daily-briefs/2019-12-26/evangelion-3.0-1.0-anime-film-opens-in-japan-on-june-27/.154794 Prepare for people to say it’s 2deep4u all over again.
  24. https://www.cartoonbrew.com/interviews/primal-creator-genndy-tartakovsky-animation-is-too-fast-i-wanted-to-slow-things-down-184158.html Turns out he still is committed to ideas for films for Sony Pictures.
  25. At this point anyone who bought Fallout 76 and continues to play it has no one to blame but themselves.
