  1. If you buy Crunchyroll, it’s presumably for infrastructure and licenses. No sense throwing the former out. That’s my hope anyway.
  2. They wouldn’t. They would however, ditch FUNiNow as an app in favor of using the Crunchyroll brand and infrastructure for all their anime streaming.
  3. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-10-30/nikkei-sony-nears-acquisition-of-crunchyroll/.164843 Why is this in the Toonami thread? Well because a lot of Toonami’s upcoming originals are Crunchyroll collaborations. If CR falls into Sony’s hands, and becomes the distribution arm replacing FUNiNow, you could see most of those originals vanish into thin freaking air. Not to mention such a move would cause Sony and Netflix to essentially become the two major players for anime in the US, leaving Toonami whatever scraps are left as the remaining notable distributors (Viz, Sentai, and Right Stuff) ally with one of the two respective power players in an attempt to keep themselves in business. This could fundamentally change the balance of power in a rapidly growing sector of the streaming market, and Toonami is the most likely to be left in the cold.
  4. When you get down to it, Fire Force’s biggest sin is that it is not a terrible series by any stretch (likable lead, fairly strong supporting cast, relatively original premise) but there are too many flaws for it to be considered a great series (several unlikable characters we’re expected to sympathize with, Tamaki’s antics simply don’t fit the tone of half the scenes she’s in so the fanservice is jarring rather than welcome). And sometimes that’s more frustrating than a series you know is dogshit, because you just need to fix a few things, in this case pacing and tone.
  5. Get ready for the Twitter Puritans to come out in force.
  6. Or... I’d take the Quantum Leap anime, mostly on account of Scott Bakula still being alive. Where was I? Right, Polygon sucks.
  7. https://deadline.com/2020/10/unicorn-warriors-eternal-hbo-max-cartoon-network-genndy-tartakovsky-1234604548/ Distinctly unlike Primal, this is set to be a family series.
  8. I’m still surprised we never got a proper adaptation of the whole of Soul Eater. I mean, we are getting a Shaman King remake.
  9. It does feel like every 10 years or so we get a bunch of "Western properties randomly made anime" but at least Pacific Rim makes more sense than most. Until Polgyon got involved anyway. Not like 2006 where we got a Highlander anime that was still the best thing the franchise had done in decades before or since. The fad of sorts tends to burn out rather quickly, and Pacific Rim appears to be no different thanks to Polygon. Just as long as Netflix doesn't make a Quantum Leap anime, we'll be fine.
  10. The usual Youtube assholes that post videos cheering this sort of thing as a result of offending them.
  11. Toonami grabs JoJo ASAP to keep it off Netflix as long as they can, despite it doing mediocre ratings. Mostly because JoJo does do good business for Netflix.
  12. It's no wonder Netflix made deals with all these other animation studios. Just so they wouldn't have to work with these hacks and their Xbox 360 level visuals.
  13. AT&T has cut 8700 jobs with promises of more to come as outrage channels are cheering. https://www.bizjournals.com/dallas/news/2020/10/24/att-third-quarter-cuts.html
  14. It helps that Hancock's antics were played for comedy from the get-go for the most part, while Hibana was presented as a serious adversary for her first several appearances. There is something to be said about making the yandere a darker skinned woman, but it's nowhere near enough to overcome her considerable writing faults.
  15. First trailer with less philosophical yammering and more Jet Jaguar.
  16. It's the Bleach of this era, fun premise and characters unfortunately hampered by occasional issues. Maki is best girl.
  17. FUNi has announced the dub cast. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-10-26/funimation-announces-inuyasha-spinoff-anime-yashahime-dub-cast/.165607
  18. https://www.reuters.com/article/us-japan-demon-slayer/demon-slayer-revenue-tops-100-million-in-10-days-breaking-japan-box-office-record-idUSKBN27B0P4 For all the good it does Toonami, Demon Slayer is a hit worldwide.
  19. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2020-10-25/clamp-tokyo-babylon-manga-gets-tv-anime-in-2021-by-gohands/.165573 Yes, the show best known as the prequel to X/1999 is getting a bigger adaptation than the old OVA.
  20. Where is Peter Chung these days? And Netflix should stick with their Japanese studios or find licenses for Powerhouse to work with. Because their originals -
  21. Video game licenses. And Castlevania has a ton of problems thanks to said sex pest. It’s their originals that no one cares about, if that makes sense.
  22. Not even because of lack of quality, just...no one cares. Their latest, Blood of Zeus, is a take on Greek myth getting positive reviews across the board. But hype is non-existent. I feel like there's a distrust of action animation done by Americans. By Americans distrusting other Americans. Their last attempt at a non-video game license not written by a sex pest named Warren Ellis was Seis Manos and it's been all but cancelled despite positive reviews and a high profile cast.
  23. Who cares?! Pierrot was not one of the studios involved in the deal. THEY DO NOT MATTER.
  24. Getter Robo Devolution Vol 5
