  1. https://www.ign.com/articles/live-action-powerpuff-girls-series-pilot-ordered-by-cw?sf137957284=1 Pilot picked up.
  2. That sort of weird retro approach is marking a lot of Toonami’s originals. Case in point - Shenmue.
  3. It is a shame with Gridman, but the show is over two years old, Toonami sucks dick at promotion, repeatedly, and it’s early on a block that isn’t bringing home the audience anymore. And it pains me to say that but most, if not all of the audience, the anime audience which is tech savvy by nature so it can watch this stuff, has moved on to greener pastures. If Demon Slayer is any indication, the show would do great on Netflix.
  4. All the big shows are available elsewhere, and that’s screwing with them.
  5. Maybe so, but the Oscars will scramble together enough random stuff to keep it out of the nomination. Besides, everyone knows Soul is going to win.
  6. I saw it when FUNi had it on its website. Fun stuff for the most part, but not essential. The new girl was interesting enough at least.
  7. Considering DeMarco’s tried and true tactic of “get the rights so Netflix can’t”, I genuinely wonder if Toonami is inhibiting the popularity of a lot of these shows, or if their success is despite Toonami, like in the case of MHA.
  8. Demon Slayer is in the US Netflix Top 10. It’s been said before, but it’s amazing how much greater their reach is with shows that have been on Toonami for a while. Apparently the rumor is the Chainsaw Man anime will be a Netflix exclusive. It’d be perfect for Toonami admittedly.
  9. I’d say it’s the Japanese answer to Troma works, but for how fucked up Troma stuff is, its heroes (case in point, the Toxic Avenger) tend to have a fairly strong moral center.
  10. Can’t say I’m surprised. Even with the Orange Man gone for now, we still have a crapload of problems to deal with which will keep folks glued to the news. Also, expect Demon Slayer reruns to do a lot worse now.
  11. The inauguration was today. The hope is that without the nutcase in the White House people will calm down some.
  12. Evangelion took a ton of its cues from Ultraman, which this show is a look at. Anno is actually directing a movie adaptation of it called Shin Ultraman, similar to Shin Godzilla, because he’s a fan. Granted the lawsuit has kept Ultra stuff mostly off these shores until a few years back with the manga, Netflix series, and Youtube channel episodes, but Ultraman was on US television in the 60’s and Turner aired Ultraman and Ultraseven on TNT. It’s not an Evangelion ripoff like the US tends to think...everything is.
  13. Its American remake was actually fairly popular in its day. They just stopped because they ran out of toku footage. Also the main villain is deliberately channeling Tim Curry from that dub.
  14. There’s quite a difference between “this offends me REEEEEE” and “this somehow slipped past quality control and will likely lead Sony to killing the Crunchyroll Originals line. For one, the latter is a lot more fun for everyone as long as you didn’t work on the show.
  15. Gee, when terrorists try to take over the capital to install an unelected despot, that takes priority over cartoons! AOT got screwed over badly.
  16. First episode is out today. It may single handedly kill the CR originals line.
  17. I will be forever baffled by how OP did middling on Toonami for years and then got a huge boost from airing the first 120 episodes on Netflix to the point they publicly complimented it. Guess the LA OP is a decent investment. And so is the LA Yu Yu Hakusho.
  18. Netflix would be bragging about it all the live long day as soon as it was official, as they’re want to do. They announce shows as soon as contracts get signed from what I see.
  19. https://fansubbing.com/2020/12/30/an-interview-with-miles/ Namely that Toonami is no longer the tastemaker for anime in this country, nor are its fans at the mercy of DeMarco and Adult Swim.
  20. To be fair, the Columbia was destroyed after the episode was made. It turns into a bit of a sadder moment than it was meant to be.
  21. Well there’s going to be more original content this year. Whether it’s any good is another matter.
  22. Name value. That and getting a sitcom/SOL premise launched is way easier.
