Speaking of pro Russian bloggers - https://amp.cnn.com/cnn/2023/04/02/world/st-petersburg-vladen-tatarsky-explosion-intl/index.html Russian bloggers are apparently now targets for resistance movements.

This is why I don’t bother with mobile Gatcha games. (Stares at Persona 5 X).

Also Deku’s look in this arc is hilarious because the look says Spawn, but it’s clear it’s the same nerd with imposter syndrome. He should have started threatening people in that voice, but Crunchyroll wouldn’t have sprung for Keith David.

april fools April Fool's Stunt Discussion Thread!!

I think Lazzo was probably asked about it before but he had the seniority to push back on it, which his successor did not have (Publick said in a tweet Adult Swim was overridden on the matter). -
Tetris - 8/10 Video game movies continue their march towards stuff that's actually kind of good with this Cold War thriller about getting everyone's favorite falling block game onto the Game Boy and to the entire world. The main character having a genuine love for the game makes him a likable protagonist by default since he wants the world to see it, he just got into a massive clusterfuck on the way there.

I maintain there would be three things Lazzo would have done if he was still in charge. First, no Birdgirl, no Tuca and Bertie and no revival movies, although he probably wouldn’t have let Venture Bros get canceled in the first place. Second, he probably would have begun, before everything went tits up, pushed for Rick and Morty to be more stand alone. “Be more funny, no one cares about lore.” Third, if he had resources, I think his Astro Boy fandom would have had him try to secure Pluto as an Adult Swim original rather than let Netflix have it. This is the same guy who admitted 5:30am Astro reruns were a birthday present to himself. -

This explains why he tried to shakedown those companies. -

Twitter needs them, not the other way around. At this rate I expect Phony Stark to try and unload Twitter next year. -

Science SARU tapped to make a Scott Pilgrim anime for Netflix
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Bad news on that front, (1 year later). https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/scott-pilgrim-netflix-series-michael-cera-mary-elizabeth-winstead-1235363578/ Most if not all of the original cast is returning. -
I think everything you said does apply to My Adventures as well as Unicorn. We've seen with the endless list of merchandise and viewing failures of shows like The Owl House (failure, cult audience, no one outside it, no merch), Amphibia, Dead End Paranormal Park, the double dose of fail that were the reboots of Voltron and She-Ra, that if you're not aiming for the broad kid audience, the adult audience, save a very small cult one, will likely ignore your work entirely because it does feel "kiddy". Toonami is no stranger to this, like when they tried to air the 2011 Thundercats or Beware the Batman. It was why the final season of Samurai Jack really leaned into the "this is adult, check out this blood!" angle. And I know that the argument from fans of Western animation is "a lot of the Japanese stuff is made for kids too!" Yes, it is, but it has enough blood, violence, language, and sexuality to distract from that. They hit the viewers with that content that makes people think it's more mature than it is, and I don't think either show has the ability, or in Genndy's case, the desire to go adult.

I fully expect a lot of these Adult Swim Jr. action cartoons to go sideways, but they really don't have any other options.

If it helps any, the article also says that Goodsmile is set to divest themselves of 4Chan with increasing scrutiny.

I still believe One Piece’s future on Toonami is directly tied to how the Netflix show does. If that thing is a hit (LOLNO), Zaslav will probably not want the cartoon on his channel since he will see it as an ad for a competitor. I know that there are a lot of people cheering this and think that Toonami shouldn’t be an anime lineup but should be a launching pad for Western action animation to reach an audience it can’t otherwise, but I also think that if they go full Western, Toonami dies in a year.

Unicorns getting crapped on due to not having the content really makes me wonder how far we’ve gone, and also looking in at the decline of action cartoons for the younger set. Most of them, judging by the kids who went to see that Demon Slayer movie earlier in the month, can’t be bothered with stuff that appears sanitized. We are a long way from DBZ freaking parents the fuck out - (Remember at this point DBZ was pretty much one of the highest rated shows in the entirety of cable). Now we see this kids show, and Genndy clearly wants to target families, and I’m wondering how it will play when it’s not airing in a family timeslot. Still, it is definitely a case of not having a choice. Crunchyroll is not sharing (and they’re currently sitting at 5 million paid subscribers with distribution deals to Hulu) and Sentai only has so many shows, many of them not fit for DeMarco’s taxing standards. As fun as Akhiba Maid War or Princess Principal would be, they don’t fit DeMarco’s tastes, so they do not air. I feel really bad even implying that I’m crapping on Genndy. I’m not. I’m sure the show will be great. But I don’t expect it to do great on Toonami.
-
I think people arguing over the show at least need to concur that they really don’t have a friggin choice. This isn’t DeMarco curating a perfectly tuned schedule to his exacting highbrow taste, this is the schedulers trying to find something to air that isn’t another rerun. Now thankfully, Genndy is generally considered a mark of quality, so this show should be good, but my fear is that it’s going to get the Beware the Batman treatment if there isn’t a lot of blood and/or cursing right away - “This is a kids show!” And yes, I know Beware the Batfleck supporters argued One Piece, MHA and Naruto were also kids shows, but they were kids shows with lots of violence and foul language, (there’s a lot of anecdotes about what actually is attracting kids and the levels of violence in say, Demon Slayer being enjoyed by the children, but that is another topic). So I think Unicorn is going to need to come out the gate with violence or adult language or else it will be dismissed as a kids show.

Live Action One Piece, from sheer confusion to Season 2 renewal.

August 31st is the rumored release. I always hated when big things were planned at the end of August/early September. You don’t want summer to end and this stuff is a reminder that it is ending.
