  1. My original guess was that this is going to be a really long music video, or maybe even two or three of them stuck together, but after having read through the thread, I agree that it's probably related to Space Jam.
  2. Cells at Work! 15-22 [not much going on, huh?] EDIT: Wow, I actually killed the thread. Where did everyone go?
  3. Okay, so this has been bubbling under for way too long. I might as well post what I have. My content ratings: The new system I ended up taking a break from this hobby in early 2019, mostly out of laziness. Truth be told, I actually watched two episodes of Log Horizon that I wrote up a preliminary post for that I never got around to finishing. So without further ado, it's time to restart, and this time, I have a plan. First of all, I'm now doing all of my images in true HD, which is a step up from the weird standard I used where I'd resize my computer's resolution to 1366x768, then take the screenshot and crop out all parts of the image where there were colored outlines due to the video processing. Second, I've come up with a new system for making content ratings that involves lots and lots of layers. I took every possible TV rating and made two layers each out of them: one for the start, and another for commercial breaks. These fixes are designed to make this hobby as easy as possible. And one more thing: I now use square ratings bugs for all my images, because I think it will make them distinct from Poke's. I'm not doing anything weird like applying the bugs to videos, or even posting them on a place other than Imgur. Consider me a hardline traditionalist; I'd rather use my social media platforms to talk about other things I love, like the actual shows I rate as well as (hopefully, real soon now) my favorite music. Right now, I'd like to focus on rating the shows I've yet to watch, but at some point, I'm going to go back and redo all my previous screenshots in HD, even if the shows themselves weren't produced that way. As for sequel seasons, I want to catch up on every show I've ever done ratings for, even if the show has episodes that haven't officially been released (like Bakuon!!; I still have two OVAs of that one to watch). It's going to take lots of time and effort, but I think it'll all be worth it. So now, without further ado, let's get to the shows! The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 1: "Who is in the pumpkin carriage?" - TV-PG (review post here) Wonder Egg Priority #1: "The Domain of Children" - TV-14V And that's it. I previously promised I would include a bonus segment in this post, but I've decided to forsake it because it's been giving me trouble. For that matter, I've been debating exactly what format my posts use, and I guess I could start including shows I don't do screenshots for. So either way, we'll see what happens next week.
  4. Wonder Egg Priority 1 To Your Eternity 7-9 Daily Lives of High School Boys 5 Vlad Love 8/9 WEP mini review: Look forward to a post in the ratings thread within the next 24 hours. (Edit: Disregard that. Putting a hard deadline made me feel anxious and not want to do it. The post should be out this weekend.) I've done the screenshots, so all that's left is to describe the ratings and figure out what I'm gonna do for the bonus segment. 😉
  5. Daily Lives of High School Boys 2-4 To Your Eternity 4-6 And now, some reading material: The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 1: "Who is in the pumpkin carriage?" [wonder egg real soon now]
  6. So now, on top of ProgrammingInsider not having the numbers we want, ShowBuzzDaily is down. Going to it shows a sample blog that says they'll be back "as soon as possible". But personally, I think it'd be nice if they missed posting on Tuesday, just to force you schmucks to talk about something else. 😗
  7. Well, considering that Disney+ has offerings from National Geographic, and the service pairs naturally with ESPN+ and Hulu, I'd say this move makes sense. I have no idea how being owned by Discovery would affect our part of the business, but I doubt it would change much. [inb4 cn real 2]
  8. I'm a washed-up Toonami viewer whose only recent show they watched is Gridman, but I enjoy the block for most of the same reasons as the OP. I'd love to start being active on social media while it's going on again, but that'll take changing circumstances and maybe a bit of work.
  9. Symphogear G 11-13 and OVAs To Your Eternity 1-3 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 1 (rewatch) Vlad Love 6/7 Daily Lives of High School Boys 1 Symphogear G final thoughts: Still have a ways to go before I drop the first CG post... technical tune-ups, getting my files ready and whatever else. I also haven't even gotten a Funi subscription, which I'd like to have for Wonder Egg.
  10. Thank you, Poke. So after more than two years of not doing any ratings screenshots, I think it's time to start doing it again, so here are my plans: in accordance with the thread, I'll be bundling some shows into a package for maximum enjoyment. But I'm going to start a bit smaller than Poke's posts, at least at first. The first of my targets is, big surprise here... The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls. I telegraphed this a bit when I listed it in one of my posts in the anime-watching thread (in fact, the first episode was the first thing I watched this year), but now it can be told. This is a franchise that means a lot to me and opened up some new pathways in how I consume Japanese media, so it'll be nice to knock down this installment of a franchise I'm in love with (especially Nao) but haven't gotten around to. I also plan to do these ratings in my classic style, which means recapping the episode in exhaustive manner as possible, doing AV Club-style "random thoughts" sections with recurring bits from week to week (including more music reviews, possibly), and then delving into the rating in its own separate paragraph (which, in this case, means it'll be sequestered in this thread). In fact, if my plans hold, I'd love to do some short bits on absolutely every idol that appears in the series, because if you haven't heard, CG has a fuckton of 'em. So yeah, look forward to that. The other show I plan on covering is a little indie anime some of you may have heard of called Wonder Egg Priority. Because we all need something fresh in our lives. This show has gotten so much critical acclaim that I feel like I have to do it justice. It's got a lot of intriguing content. In fact, if you're in the sphere of Anitwitter that enjoys shows of its ilk, you might have seen a post giving some trigger warnings on the show! While I do appreciate that people are taking the time to give caution for those who might have IRL trauma, I think this is just pointing out the good bits for people like me to find. I want to cover this one in a more organic style, although who knows how successful I'll be at it. Finally, I'd like to include a bonus segment in each post, which will mostly feature glimpses into the past. Among the various things I'd like to do with this hobby is to redo my older screenshots in HD, which means I'd like to revisit previous shows and give updates on if there are any ratings I'd like to change. Also, some shows might give different ratings if I've watched the dub version when I initially covered the sub, and vice versa. There might also be a one-off special or movie that I'll cover this way. Isn't it exciting? All of this fun content starts coming at you... this week, hopefully. And I'd like to make them weekly, as another counterpoint to Poke's more full-featured monthly affairs. [because we're real american cowboys]
  11. Late response to this, but yeah, I like post limits on threads. This newer forum software may be able to handle huge threads a lot better than Lithium, but I prefer having smaller ones for easier archiving and stuff. Vlad Love 1-5 Laid-Back Camp S2E12/13 Symphogear G 8-10
  12. Really? Well, I can't blame them for that. Funny how Toonami's been "let us care about the ratings" for a while now, and apparently the only way to further that is to take away public access to it. That's what we get for caring about this shit in 2021. 😗 Do you think that's a bad thing? I haven't seen anyone talk about if Final Space should be on Toonami or not, but it seems like a pretty decent action/comedy series. It'd probably work better in the block proper than Gemusetto did. And as for the new Gridman-adjacent thing, probably not. Not when its parent show got shunted to 2:30 from the beginning. I'd sooner expect something like Golden Kamuy to fill the slot.
  13. Gonna try some different formatting this time, just for shits and giggles. I've caught up with the new season of Laid-Back Camp. Really good show, although I almost feel like I've taken it for granted. I never bothered to watch the Room Camp spin-off, and it's been long enough since the first season aired that I've wondered if I should've rewatched that. Either way, I'm just happy to be able to spend joy indoors with all of these characters as they go explore outside. Then I finished the first season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War. I watched the first episode of this way back in my college's anime club, back when I was in school and such things happened on campus. Yeah, it's been weird... but anyway, it took me a while to warm up on this show. At first, I wondered if it was trying too hard to be funny, with all the crazy animation going on. Part of the premise also seemed hackneyed to me, as I was worried it would get really formulaic and focus on Kaguya and Miyuki constantly having weird misunderstandings about their supposed love. Thankfully, it didn't take long for me to start liking it, particularly in Episode 3's last segment when Kagyua's commute to school. And then, coincidentally, I started enjoying the show's artistry for being so manic and expressive. The introduction of Yu to the cast also helped. I look forward to watching the second season of this, even though CR has only has the first. I've promised myself I'm going to get a Funi subscription no matter what, although there's another show involved in that equation that should get me to pull the trigger. Finally, I watched Symphogear G up to episode 7. It's a really good show, and just about everything—from the plotting to the animation and acting—has really improved from the first season. For one, Hibiki's face no longer looks like it's melting all the time. One thing that sticks out for me regarding this show is that its pacing is so extra... every episode has either a surprising twist or something that you wouldn't expect to happen until later. So that's that. Tonight, I'm going to start the CR version of Vlad Love, which I watched the special version of on YouTube when it was available. I ended up dealing with some bad picture quality on that one that I'm sure Poke wouldn't have wanted to bother with, but it was... certainly interesting. I laughed a few times, mostly out of confusion. More than anything, I'm looking forward to watching Oshii go ham on a show that otherwise be almost unmarketable. [hello there, i'm poopybutthole pooerson]
  14. I'm surprised nobody's brought up the fact that ProgrammingInsider hasn't posted any Saturday finals in over a month, which means no exact 18-49s for us. Douglas is still active and posting articles, so I don't know what's the matter, but someone should probably ask him about it, if they haven't already.
  15. Symphogear G 2/3 Laid-Back Camp S2E6/7 Tanaka-kun is Always Listless OVAs (dubbed; main show was subbed) Kaguya-sama: Love is War S1E8
  16. A few thoughts on this stuff: It would be nice if Toonami didn't try to catch every mega-hit series as it aired. To me, the block's golden years were 2014-16, and that had older stuff like Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann, and Michiko & Hatchin which just about everyone liked. A streaming service with a linear programming feed was something Neon Alley tried. Remember that? I watched the first few episodes of Madoka Magica that way. But it came along before the big wave of streaming services rolled in and it eventually switched to more a conventional on-demand system. I don't think something like that is going to fly in 2021, let alone five years ago at the start of Netflix's dominance. People already don't like the Balkanization of streaming services based on who owns the shows, so why make the streaming experience even more like TV? As affable as Disney and their streaming service is, they're absolutely in the right about releasing episodes weekly. Look at how much discussion their shows have soaked up, between The Mandalorian and now the new Marvel thing. In regards to Netflix, it proves that they could stop having something stuck in their craw and start putting out subbed anime once a week, just like the anime-centric services do. Ultimately, I don't think Toonami is doing anything wrong with their current approach. It's going to be hard to pierce the mainstream in this era lead by streaming without original content, and starting with Uzumaki and that Blade Runner show, we should have a steady flow of it coming soon.
  17. Symphogear G 1 Laid-Back Camp S2E5 [goin' where the water tastes like wine]
  18. Kaguya-Sama: Love is War S1E7 Laid-Back Camp S2E4
  19. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 1 Kaguya-Sama: Love is War S1E4-6 Laid-Back Camp S2E1-3 Promare Don't worry, because I've kept busy. I've also been rewatching Tanaka-kun with the dub.
  20. Vinland Saga 27-29 Mizutama Honey Boy 17/18 Cells at Work! Vol. 3
  21. I'm surprised they brought back the classic "broke the scale" ratings for this one, just like Zac used to do; I figured they retired those when the stars (and corresponding community ratings) were introduced. It's definitely warranted considering how awesomely terrible this show seems to be, but it makes me wonder if they'll do something similar when Redo of Healer drops.
  22. Re:Stage! Deam Days 6 Kaguya-sama: Love is War S1E3 Pretty neat that the last anime thing I saw this year was Chika's meme dance. I'm not even that keen on this show, but this episode made me warm up to it a bit. [keep on being awesome]
  23. They're putting this show behind AssClass? Come on. Fortunately, I've been DVR-ing the latter for a while now, even when it was on a half hour earlier.
  24. Excellent. As I've said before, Funi probably wanted to make sure this could be dubbed quickly even during a pandemic. I hope it rewards them with good ratings.
  25. Well, it's nice that Gemusetto gets to wrap up its run on Toonami proper, but they could've planned this better. Unless the two-week reprieve is to somehow accommodate for AoT coming back, but I doubt it.
