  1. Late response to this, but yeah, I like post limits on threads. This newer forum software may be able to handle huge threads a lot better than Lithium, but I prefer having smaller ones for easier archiving and stuff. Vlad Love 1-5 Laid-Back Camp S2E12/13 Symphogear G 8-10
  2. Really? Well, I can't blame them for that. Funny how Toonami's been "let us care about the ratings" for a while now, and apparently the only way to further that is to take away public access to it. That's what we get for caring about this shit in 2021. 😗 Do you think that's a bad thing? I haven't seen anyone talk about if Final Space should be on Toonami or not, but it seems like a pretty decent action/comedy series. It'd probably work better in the block proper than Gemusetto did. And as for the new Gridman-adjacent thing, probably not. Not when its parent show got shunted to 2:30 from the beginning. I'd sooner expect something like Golden Kamuy to fill the slot.
  3. Gonna try some different formatting this time, just for shits and giggles. I've caught up with the new season of Laid-Back Camp. Really good show, although I almost feel like I've taken it for granted. I never bothered to watch the Room Camp spin-off, and it's been long enough since the first season aired that I've wondered if I should've rewatched that. Either way, I'm just happy to be able to spend joy indoors with all of these characters as they go explore outside. Then I finished the first season of Kaguya-sama: Love is War. I watched the first episode of this way back in my college's anime club, back when I was in school and such things happened on campus. Yeah, it's been weird... but anyway, it took me a while to warm up on this show. At first, I wondered if it was trying too hard to be funny, with all the crazy animation going on. Part of the premise also seemed hackneyed to me, as I was worried it would get really formulaic and focus on Kaguya and Miyuki constantly having weird misunderstandings about their supposed love. Thankfully, it didn't take long for me to start liking it, particularly in Episode 3's last segment when Kagyua's commute to school. And then, coincidentally, I started enjoying the show's artistry for being so manic and expressive. The introduction of Yu to the cast also helped. I look forward to watching the second season of this, even though CR has only has the first. I've promised myself I'm going to get a Funi subscription no matter what, although there's another show involved in that equation that should get me to pull the trigger. Finally, I watched Symphogear G up to episode 7. It's a really good show, and just about everything—from the plotting to the animation and acting—has really improved from the first season. For one, Hibiki's face no longer looks like it's melting all the time. One thing that sticks out for me regarding this show is that its pacing is so extra... every episode has either a surprising twist or something that you wouldn't expect to happen until later. So that's that. Tonight, I'm going to start the CR version of Vlad Love, which I watched the special version of on YouTube when it was available. I ended up dealing with some bad picture quality on that one that I'm sure Poke wouldn't have wanted to bother with, but it was... certainly interesting. I laughed a few times, mostly out of confusion. More than anything, I'm looking forward to watching Oshii go ham on a show that otherwise be almost unmarketable. [hello there, i'm poopybutthole pooerson]
  4. I'm surprised nobody's brought up the fact that ProgrammingInsider hasn't posted any Saturday finals in over a month, which means no exact 18-49s for us. Douglas is still active and posting articles, so I don't know what's the matter, but someone should probably ask him about it, if they haven't already.

  6. A few thoughts on this stuff: It would be nice if Toonami didn't try to catch every mega-hit series as it aired. To me, the block's golden years were 2014-16, and that had older stuff like Black Lagoon, Gurren Lagann, and Michiko & Hatchin which just about everyone liked. A streaming service with a linear programming feed was something Neon Alley tried. Remember that? I watched the first few episodes of Madoka Magica that way. But it came along before the big wave of streaming services rolled in and it eventually switched to more a conventional on-demand system. I don't think something like that is going to fly in 2021, let alone five years ago at the start of Netflix's dominance. People already don't like the Balkanization of streaming services based on who owns the shows, so why make the streaming experience even more like TV? As affable as Disney and their streaming service is, they're absolutely in the right about releasing episodes weekly. Look at how much discussion their shows have soaked up, between The Mandalorian and now the new Marvel thing. In regards to Netflix, it proves that they could stop having something stuck in their craw and start putting out subbed anime once a week, just like the anime-centric services do. Ultimately, I don't think Toonami is doing anything wrong with their current approach. It's going to be hard to pierce the mainstream in this era lead by streaming without original content, and starting with Uzumaki and that Blade Runner show, we should have a steady flow of it coming soon.

  9. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 1 Kaguya-Sama: Love is War S1E4-6 Laid-Back Camp S2E1-3 Promare Don't worry, because I've kept busy. I've also been rewatching Tanaka-kun with the dub.

  11. I'm surprised they brought back the classic "broke the scale" ratings for this one, just like Zac used to do; I figured they retired those when the stars (and corresponding community ratings) were introduced. It's definitely warranted considering how awesomely terrible this show seems to be, but it makes me wonder if they'll do something similar when Redo of Healer drops.
  12. Re:Stage! Deam Days 6 Kaguya-sama: Love is War S1E3 Pretty neat that the last anime thing I saw this year was Chika's meme dance. I'm not even that keen on this show, but this episode made me warm up to it a bit. [keep on being awesome]
  13. They're putting this show behind AssClass? Come on. Fortunately, I've been DVR-ing the latter for a while now, even when it was on a half hour earlier.
  14. Excellent. As I've said before, Funi probably wanted to make sure this could be dubbed quickly even during a pandemic. I hope it rewards them with good ratings.
  15. Well, it's nice that Gemusetto gets to wrap up its run on Toonami proper, but they could've planned this better. Unless the two-week reprieve is to somehow accommodate for AoT coming back, but I doubt it.
  16. Golden Kamuy S3E11/12 VladLove 1 The Ancient Magus' Bride 16 [well, that took a while]
  17. So what was up with SARA saying that the normal lineup will be back next week? That's a bold-faced lie. Did no one get the memo about the Bebop marathon?
  18. MAPPA doing adaptations of popular shonen anime is quickly becoming the new "Fire Emblem characters in Smash". But hey: everyone loves Chainsaw Man, assuming they've read it.
  19. Golden Kamuy S3E10 Re:Stage! Dream Days 5
  20. Cells at Work! Vol. 2 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Wild Wind Girl 4 WWG is out of translated chapters for now. God, what a tease, because I'd love to read more of it, especially with the implication that Nao will show up.
  21. I'd prefer an AssClass marathon myself, although AoT would have a neat practical purpose. As for the other major topic of this thread, I don't think they'll randomly preempt the normal schedule to do an HBO Max-related thing at least outside of special times. The Batman movie nights only happened because Toonami felt it would be a cool diversion from the monotony of the normal schedule, as there wasn't going to be a usual Labor Day marathon. It worked for me, although I still have DVR copies of the two parts of The Dark Knight Returns that I need to watch. And as for this special schedule, it's merely turning a one-week break into two weeks, in a spot Toonami normally does marathons to start with. If they end up piling on a second marathon after New Year's, you totally have the right to complain (but I wouldn't mind it), but you should focus your anger on that rather than random attempts at corporate synergy.
  22. Sounds good to me. I should parlay this into actually watching much of Toonami live again and even tweeting while it's on. Haven't done that in what feels like years. On the other hand, I actually feel bad for whoever's watching Gemusetto. Your finale got shunted off to a Sunday night for the new (old) DC hotness. I mean, I wasn't watching it, but I felt it was nice to have some unbridled variety on the block.
  23. Well, I hope all the people who wanted Funi and CR to come back together again after their initial partnership was squashed are happy now, even if corporate consolidation is never a good thing for any industry. 😶 More than anything, I just feel bad for Sentai amidst all this. They've been struggling to get really good and popular titles for years already, and now with two giants trying to compete against each other, I worry they'll be priced out of getting simulcasts entirely. Maybe having more two-way bidding wars as opposed to three-ways will somehow keep prices down and allow them to be competitive on more shows, but I doubt that. Ironically, they've been dabbling in licensing Netflix shows for home video lately, so maybe they'll be able to find a hit or two that way. But the way I see it, they've basically become Discotek Lite.
  24. If the decision to stop making topicals was because of AT&T's budget cuts, that kind of makes sense... because this is a really low-effort thing to do. All you need are two canned lines from the announcer and the ability to clip ten seconds or so from the episode. It's the kind of thing DeMarco could do in his spare time. 🥴
