This is a novel idea, but focusing the special around the idea of getting people to vote when so many companies are also parroting that advice makes it come off as forced. They must really be banking on Toonami viewers liking RTJ or Ben and Jerry's (which, admittedly, I'm a huge fan of) so they'll watch this.

Toonami announcing an acquisition more than a week in advance? Now that's a throwback. I imagine it's to give the dubbing team lots of leeway, so for me, it just means more time to keep blithely ignoring this show. 😶

I think it's going to be a rerun, but I don't know which one. So I went with FLCL to stand out. It'd be nice if they could play all three series in a row this time, even if casuals only like two of them.

The iDOLM@STER MOVIE: To the other side of the light! Welp, done with all of the original anime now. I'd have moved on to Cinderella Girls yesterday, but I want to do that one right... if you know what I mean.

While I agree that we can almost write off the rest of 2020 at this point, it's worth noting that even if Toonami has a lot of things planned for next year, they're not going to take up a lot of time. Uzumaki is a four-episode miniseries, Blade Runner will be 13 episodes, and that Pirate Princess show is only a single cour. If they air consecutively, that's only a little over half a year's worth of content for a single slot. Economic conditions will likely be better by then so they can pick up other new shows, but considering how slim the pickings were before things got bad, can we really expect them to fill up the rest of the three hours or so with enough fresh content? People love to drag DeMarco and friends for relying on too much long-running shonen and prolific franchises (Gundam, et al.) since 2016, but with the current situation in mind, it makes that island of stability look much more appealing. Basically, if we're going to have people complain about either a glut of formulaic shows or... nothing at all, I'd happily take the former, because at least we'd have something interesting to talk and make jokes about. But the industry has changed, and it's gotten to the point where I share some of CountFrylock's fears about endless reruns. Heck, after the lack of a show replacement on Saturday night, I really was afraid they'd try to sic Bebop or FLCL on us!

Well, looks like we have an answer as to next weekend: JoJo's is coming back. Assuming it was settled by yesterday night, I don't know why they didn't announce it as part of the con. But there you go.

Needless to say, I think it's been cemented as a must-watch show of this season, to the point where I've lined up to buy a whole year of Funi's premium streaming service to watch it.

Even so, we've already discussed this week's numbers. Now to stay quiet for even longer... unless you're psyched about the Million Live anime like me.

Going out on a high note... and yet it got just under 500K. Taking bronze for the night is nice, but damn.

This isn't an issue of starting early enough so much as sharing channel space with Cartoon Network. No matter what, [as] has tended to place shows that aren't TV-MA in its first hour, because some kids may still be watching the channel at this time. But on the other hand, they've had no problem airing Rick and Morty in the 8:00 p.m. hour, and some of what that show can get away with under a TV-14 is egregious. This also loosely explains why they still edit their shows to censor the worst swears and sexual content, even if there's no reason to on any network. That's what the watershed was invented for, after all.

I'm indifferent, as you might expect. I could never blame them for all that's going on, especially when Georgia is one of those states that's seen the brunt of reopening-induced outbreaks. At this point, Jason and friends might as well stay at home, relax, and telegram the scheduler who's resorted to living in the control center what reruns to put on. Also, I think you should cool it with the defeatism. Not that there's any scientific reason for doing so, but because sometimes, optimism is just better. I have my fingers tightly crossed a vaccine will enter mass production by the start of next year.

I suppose the only way this could be worse was if they brought back Dragon Ball Z reruns on top of Super. But let's not even think about that. Also, if don't know about the "convention" Sketch is referring to, it's this.

Cops was at least honest enough to make its "stars" sign waivers, while Live PD has a more cavalier attitude about that. I doubt the latter is coming back. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we start to see fictional shows about police (like Chicago P.D.) be either cancelled or put on lengthy hiatuses amidst all of this.

At this point, why not? It wouldn't be too bad to slip in a call for a better world right before some much-needed escapism.

I wouldn't jump to conclusions yet. America has been doing pretty badly, but I'm skeptical that Japan's relaxed attitude with no restriction of movement and small testing capacity is working. It feels like the Abe administration is trying to sweep this entire pandemic under the rug in time for the Olympics, but even that may not work out. As for the original topic... eh, I'm not convinced this show is safe. If they're announcing a premiere date, they must have a big batch of episodes ready, but that could just mean they'll run out in September and the show will be delayed then instead of now.

I figure it wouldn't be too hard to go back to recording like normal, since all that's needed is someone to disinfect the booth once the performer is finished, but it's nice to see them taking extra precautions. Using a studio that can hold an orchestra for just a few people is fittingly ridiculous.

Sounds good. And I obviously need to get back to makin' screencaps for shows myself, which I haven't done in a comically long time. Once I muster up the motivation, it'll be fun to be able to post and not have it be in this thread nor as a response to someone's negativity.
