  1. My hope is that they're really close to getting a new show and are just doing this to buy time. We've had cases of that before. As for Blade Runner, I hope they don't end up screwing it over with moves like this. If they're going to air a marathon (or more DC shit; we're due for at least one more night of that this year) on November 27, they should at least do like Fena and have an episode air in front.
  2. To Your Eternity 20 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 6: "Finally, our day has come!"
  3. Another month, another wasted opportunity. I swear, next time it'll all be a little more timely. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 5: "I don't want to be a wallflower" - TV-PGS (review post here) Wonder Egg Priority #5: "The Girl Flautist" - TV-14V Nichijou Episode 8: TV-PGV Episode 9: TV-PGLV Episode 10: TV-PG To Your Eternity Episode 18: "To Continue On" - TV-MA Episode 19: "Wandering Rage" - TV-MA Bakuon!! OVA #1: "Bakuon!!" [hoppy hallaween]
  4. Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu 6-19 Fairy Tail 1/2 Glad I took another chance on the Squid Girl dude's newer series. At first, I was turned off from it due to all the sex jokes, but now I've found that the humor goes a little beyond that in future chapters, even if it's mostly dumb slapstick and characters flaunting their one-note personalities. And I have high hopes for future volumes (as I'm currently one chapter in on Volume 2), mainly because I know the cast is going to get a lot bigger. Reiko has been a nice addition so far; looks like I have the hots for schoolgirls enforcing public morals. As for that shonen... yeah. This is the last title I've yet to read from the Kodansha Humble Bundle batch. I like it so far, but it's pretty loud and obnoxious. Lots of characters fucking shit up and others reacting with crazy faces. I can only imagine what the anime adaptation is like, assuming they didn't tone that stuff down at least at first. And the art style reminds me a lot of One Piece, if only in how cartoony everything is, like a Western series. Next up, I've bought the next two volumes of Quints, boldly moving from e-books to physical. So I guess you can look forward to my thoughts on that.
  5. Showtime! Uta no Onee-san Datte Shitai 2-4 (NSFW discussion below) Bakuon!! OVA #1: "Bakuon!!" (not legally streaming)
  6. I guess it was obvious to the dedicated fans, but it's nice to have confirmation. And at least they're using the DST hour again. Remember all those years ago when they aired the pilot of King Star King and people freaked out over it? I hope they have the balls to do something like that again, though for all we know it could just be reruns.
  7. I think the review Daos posted sums it up. This show had so much missed potential that it goes without saying. What disappointed me the most was the fact that, in this world, pretty much every conspiracy and secret society is real. So how come there wasn't an episode where, say, the Freemasons decide to make a run at Fena? Maybe they could've taken on the same role as the Rumble Rose pirates? And also, to get the obvious joke out of the way: for a show called "Pirate Princess", there was barely any piracy in the whole show. Only at the end, when the Goblin Knights got all of the treasure within Eden, did it really qualify. This show's ending is probably going to trip up everyone more than anything else when discussing it, and I agree. Fena's role being the one who decides if the world is retained or reborn came out of nowhere, and the reveal that Cody was the one behind everything in the story is just lazy writing. Not to mention, the scene where Fena watches her predecessor be burned at the stake was hilariously lame; it made me think whoever wrote that had a teenager's sense of morality. And the way she handled this grand final plot point (which amounts to kicking the can down the road) isn't going to placate anyone who actually wanted her to be a strong female character. On the other hand, I thought the resolution and actual ending was pretty sweet. I don't know how she ended up on that remote island or for how long, but given every other issue the show has, it doesn't matter. Neither does three of the Rumble Rose pirates being shown alive near the end. Ultimately, I think this show ended up tricking people, with its competent production (no mean feat when half the anime industry is on fire) and respectable premise. Maybe if it had been as big as dumb as the finale was from the beginning, people would be a little kinder to it? In the meantime, I'll remember it as the gold standard for a 6/10 series that could've been a lot more. Oh, and for making me realize I was pronouncing the name of one of my favorite iM@S characters wrong. I'd even make a comment about possibly rewatching it with the sound off, but that would be slagging off all the talented VAs, English or otherwise, who worked on this thing.
  8. It's time for the finale of [adult swim]'s latest co-pro. Depending on how cynical you are, let's either give it a farewell worthy of the high seas, or just strap in so it can disappoint us one more time. πŸ˜‰
  9. Watching the block live is nothing special for me, although I did watch more than just Fena this time. Sadly, I've found that my recent tendency to rewind the video to be able to fully hear and understand every line in the film isn't gonna fly for a long movie like this. When did I get like this, anyway? It's another example of my lowered standards that need to change. πŸ˜• But anyway, low ratings. Nothing new.
  10. Bakuon!! OVA 1 (rewatch) Showtime! Uta no Onee-san Datte Shitai 1 That's right! ComicFesta round 3. And I actually liked it this time, mostly because I know what to expect out of porn.
  11. I'm not familiar with these Batman movies (not that I'd be expected to), but I didn't know they were released just a few months ago. Pretty cool that Toonami is getting the chance to air something that new. And hey, at least Fena is still airing. That's all I've been caring for on the block lately, so I'm satisfied. If they really want to satisfy CountFrylock, they could forego a Thanksgiving marathon/movie night and maybe not do one for December 18. Either way, I have a feeling they're going to plug in even more DC shit before the year's over.
  12. To Your Eternity 18/19 Nichijou 9 My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 4 I did some more old browsing lately, this time of this very thread, and it made me feel wistful. How did I lose the ability to actually talk in depth about anime on a place like this? It's all going to my head, which needs to change. Coming soon: an old favorite rises from the grave and revs its engine.
  13. Nichijou 6-9 My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 2/3 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 5: "I don't want to be a wallflower"
  14. I have a low propensity for superheroes, given that I skipped out on half the Batman stuff they showed last year, but I'll try to fit these two movies in. Batman Ninja seems like it'd be something cool to watch live.
  15. Yeah, this show is far from perfect, but I've been enjoying it largely because of how different it is, compared to both the typical co-pro but also everything else Toonami has been airing lately. It's a pretty breezy watch that manages to maintain a good balance of playfulness and seriousness. One of the ANN reviews compared it to a YA novel; give me more of that over an endless parade of Shonen Jump adaptations.
  16. Slipping another one in before the month ends. I think I'm getting back in the swing of things, but a few nagging habits remain. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 4: "Everyday life, really full of joy!" - TV-G (review post here) Wonder Egg Priority #4: "Colorful Girls" - TV-14DV Nichijou Episode 4: TV-PG Episode 5: TV-PG Episode 6: TV-14V Episode 7: TV-PGL To Your Eternity Episode 16: "The Children's Dreams" - TV-MA Episode 17: "The Defeated" - TV-14LSV Next time: new shows, hopefully. Maybe I'll even cover a current simulcast.
  17. Nichijou 4/5 To Your Eternity 16/17 My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! 1 Wonder Egg Priority 4 [life may be sweeter for this, i don't know]
  18. Inuyama Tamaki Channel! The Story of Our Secret! 1/2 Atsumare! Fushigi Kenkyu-bu 1-5 (reread) Happy three years, Norio.
  19. Nichijou 1-3 Wonder Egg Priority 2/3 To Your Eternity 14/15 Holy Knight 1 The iDOLM@STER Series Concept Movie 2021 γ€ŽVOY@GER』 Pretty nice stack. Holy Knight was the unknown instigator that really annoyed me, to quote the ratings post. Not only did I actually buy it, but I even preordered the new BD from Media Blasters, expecting the same wonderful kusoge experience I remembered from Crunchyroll. But then I watched it and didn't like it as much, on top of screwing up actually giving it a rating. Expect a redo (or a re-redo, I guess) of that in the thread at some future date. Anyway, go big or go home. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 4: "Everyday life, really full of joy!"
  20. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 3: "A ball is resplendent, enjoyable, and..." - TV-PG (review post here) Wonder Egg Priority #3: "A Bare Knife" - TV-14D Nichijou Episode 1 - TV-14 Episode 2 - TV-PGV Episode 3 - TV-PGL (yeah... no spiffy titles this time) To Your Eternity Episode 14: "Jananda, Island of Freedom" - TV-14LV Episode 15: "A Girl Named Tonari" - TV-14LV And that's it for now. Sorry for another delay, though at least I've gotten it out quicker than last time. And there was something else I wanted to include, but I've decided to put it on hold for now for various reasons that annoy me.
  21. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 3: "A ball is resplendent, enjoyable, and..."
  22. It's alright. I think Twitter has a multitude of different uses; I do politics every now and then, but it's mostly in the form of weird memes and not trying to be negative. Also, replace the point about fetishes with "fan art of idols", and I'd say I have a similar approach. It's just that, while I occasionally discuss content ratings in regards to Toonami shows, there's no precedent for me putting ratings images and such over there. Anyway, time for part deux of the new hotness. This time, I'm going to be featuring some in-depth ratings notes without screenshots, plus a redo. The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 2: "I have never seen such a beautiful castle" - TV-PG (review post here) Wonder Egg Priority #2: "The Terms of Friendship" - TV-MAS Squid Girl S1E1 redux: "How About an Inkvasion? / Aren't We Brothers in Arms? / Who's the Mightiest Squid of All?" - TV-PGV To Your Eternity #10: "New Family" - TV-14L #11: "Gift From the Past" - TV-PGV #12: "Awakening"- TV-14LV #13: "Aspiring to Go Higher"- TV-14L There we go. Hopefully you enjoyed this meatier offering, but the fun isn't stopping anytime soon. 😎 [summertime done come and gone]
  23. Pain. I feel for everyone for wanted it on Toonami. Good thing I only made it to partway through Part 4.
  24. Wonder Egg Priority 2 I also finished rewatching all of Season 1 of Squid Girl... and then I went back and reread all the episode reviews I did for my content ratings special years ago. First of all, I'd say this show holds up really well, and there are parts of episodes that I didn't like before that I've really come around on. The second segment of S1E10 is a good example. I don't know why I thought that having Sanae swear of her Squiddy obsession just for five minutes or so made it worse, but now I feel that it managed to pack a lot in, being sad, a little creepy, but also very funny, and wrapping itself up in a nice manner. As for the reviews, I was shocked to see that a lot of my writing still hold up. There are some cringey moments here and there, but I was expecting those. There were jokes that haven't dated well plus references that seem impermeable nowadays, but I also enjoyed the weekly selections of squid puns, subsequent subversions of them, various other recurring bits and things that help the posts flow better, and also how much fun I had watching the series and dishing out my honest thoughts. So yeah, I'd love to get on a consistent schedule doing this for Cinderella Girls and the like. [you can bet your beak on it]
  25. Daily Lives of High School Boys 6-12 (oh boy) The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 2 To Your Eternity 10-13 Vlad Love 10-12 Finished two anime comedies, one old and the other fairly new. I liked one of them (that being Nichibros), but maybe not much as I thought, while the other one was too avant-garde for my tastes, having a tendency to either not tell jokes or run them into the ground. But enough of that, because it's time for what you're really waiting for: The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 2: "I have never seen such a beautiful castle" [august west is looking good]
