I see. Hmm... at this point, my biggest hope is that this rerun is somehow temporary and they're waiting for the ink to dry on an upcoming contract, but the rest of your post didn't inspire confidence. And Primal S2 is probably going to become a Toonami original just so they have something to tide us over with until the next round of co-productions starts. In that case, I haven't seen any of this show, so I'll start with S1. If AMC really is preventing Sentai from licensing out to Toonami, then that's just galling, especially after Made in Abyss gave me newfound optimism regarding this block. I hope it's not true, if only because I've started to wonder what the future is going to be like, and things have gotten pretty existential. 🥴

Well, that's disappointing, but I think some internal politics we don't know about played a role in this. After the debacle of late last year with the block having to stall week after week because they couldn't get anything new, the Toonami crew now knows better and isn't going to test their luck. At least Primal S1 is only five episodes; whether a premiere of S2(?) or something new from Sentai follows it, I think we're on okay shape. Least I still gots Lupin to watch. I also find it interesting that they're having AssClass lead off the block and moving One Piece up, both of which Sketch suggested. Granted, the former is only for a week, which makes me wonder why Primal is suddenly going to knock it off. Lately Toonami has been prone to bursts of micromanagement like this, whereas in the past the block would try to stay consistent as possible to help keep the ratings stable. Guess we're a long ways away from that era now.

In my eyes, Fena started out nicely but turned into a joke by the end. Black Lotus had lower peaks, but was at least good the whole way through, and I probably would've liked it more had I been familiar with the Blade Runner mythos. But yeah, I don't think it's controversial at all to say that Shenmue has been the best of the CR originals. Ideally, it'll get a second season announced at the end of the finale on Saturday, meaning it'll outlive the brand it was originally made for.

Spy×Family 1-3 The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls 11 Hackadoll the Animation 10/11 Nichijou 25 Wow, that was actually lots of fun. It helps that this show rates well: all three eps have been in the 14 range so far. I have no ETA for the next omnibus (as it'll depend on how much I want to include), but I can confidently say it's coming soon. And if you'd like a sneak peek at my images, go here. Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Poor Shimabukuro... he can't seem to succeed at anything, not even being the most notorious sex pest in Jump. Since it's been a long time since someone other than EmpressAngel posted viewing notes in here, I'll chime in with some stuff. Shenmue is almost finished, and I'm still enjoying it very much. However, I've found the plot to be bloated and harder to follow since the action moved to Hong Kong. I'm not sure if I would pin the blame on the show itself, but it's a stark contrast to the first half's narrative cohesiveness and simplicity; no matter what Ryo was doing, even if it felt like a side quest, he was always making some progress on the main goal. And everything that wasn't was still highly entertaining, like his encounters with the crazy old dude, or the various forklift adventures. This arc, on the other hand, seems to have as many dead ends as juicy ledes, and some parts of the overall story (like Ryo briefly moving into that temple) seem superfluous, though I guess I appreciate the narrative filigree (and Ryo getting to spar with that woman in the China dress). On top of that, I miss one plot point in particular from the first half: Nozomi talking to Ryo about if he actually had plans in life beyond trying to avenge his father. Guess that was never going to go anywhere once sailed the high seas. As a result, seeing her in the end credits feels rather awkward for reasons that go beyond her having practically disappeared from the main show; couldn't we at least have gotten one look at how things are going in Japan right now? Hopefully we'll get it in the finale. And speaking of: ooh boy, that promo. Looks like Ryo has immediately forgotten everything he learned about the Wuda in charging straight at Lan Di. I don't think that's gonna end well; looks like he still has a lot to learn, which is a bitter pill to swallow given how far I thought he had grown over the course of this arc. But that was sort of what I expected, given that the Chinese girl is primed and ready to finally enter the plot. Lupin the Third: Part VI... hmm, okay. I watched parts of Parts IV and V, and while I didn't finish the latter, I actually skipped most of the former in favor of watching the last four episodes, which is really weird given my viewing habits. All I can remember from the climax was that Leonardo da Vinci was involved; seems just weird enough. This time around, we have what seems to be a bold attempt at making a Lupin show where he isn't the main character. (Caveat emptor: I haven't seen The Woman Called Fujiko Mine.) Instead, we have... Tatsumi? That was my first thought; maybe it's the Sentai connection talking, but this Sherlock Holmes seems gruff, but also not particularly interesting, except for the fact that he has a Japanese schoolgirl; making things worse, Lily is a rather generic name, but that's just my opinion. The meat of the episode is typical Lupin: mostly not anything you haven't seen before, but entertaining nonetheless. Hope I actually ride this installment to its conclusion. Content ratings watch: Looks like this episode got a 14SV just for that scene of male gaze towards the disguised Fujiko? I didn't see anything else. If so, it seems overblown, but then again, so have a lot of Toonami's ratings in the recent past. Also, interesting tidbit I randomly noticed: You Moriyama, the director of Megalobox, did the ED, which I certainly wouldn't have guessed. It's nice and light with a bit of English lyrics, and I think it'll be a nice way to end my lazy Saturdays going forward. I miss Made in Abyss. Looks like Toonami aired another external music video, probably during One Piece (since I didn't catch it). Make that another week without a game review, which I'm genuinely bumming about. Has Toonami stopped doing any sort of goodies with TOM narration? I hope not, because it would be a waste of the new Absolution and this sweet, sweet packaging. -
Jason Demarco Just Gave out some bad news for toonami fans
Blatch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
This was enough to make me wonder: do you think we'll see any HD remasters of Gundam shows on Toonami? And if so, which one do you think would come first? I don't know how possible it is, but I'd like to see G Gundam air on the block, as its self-contained story and different tone compared to the rest of the series would work best. Wing would work better as nostalgia bait but I can't see viewers taking to it, and if Sunrise (or whatever they're called nowadays) really wanted to be bold, they could even air the 1979 original, but I don't know what that would accomplish outside of making up for the show's original run getting screwed because of 9/11. Of course, they also have that new series coming out with the female protagonist plus a new season of Iron-Blooded Orphans, so I bet we'll see one of those come first. First of all, hell yeah, but I do wonder if AMC calling the shots means Sentai might be limited in some capacity. We probably won't be screwed unless anime starts to air on their flagship. I also forgot about YashaHime. Viz is still very much a player in the industry, but I don't know if they still have their catalog titles from at least ten years ago. What was the most notable thing they licensed? Blood Lad? Well, other than Bleach, and lest anyone forget, it's still got a final season in the works. Hopefully Toonami is still able to do business with their leftovers and table scraps. -
Given that they had no trouble announcing the last two acquisitions, I think they'll add at least one new show on the 7th. They could still stall, though. We haven't any any DC animated movies in a decent amount of time, so I wouldn't mind another one of those. But I probably wouldn't watch it, if only because I never got around to any of my DVR recordings from late last year. As for Sketch's post: boy, what I would give to have at least half of those shows on Toonami. I don't think Girls' Last Tour would be possible without Jason recomitting to their pledge to show more non-action shows, though, as it's rather philosophical. Also, wait at least a few months so I can make my ratings images, thanks.

Round 6: "Open Your Eye-es!!!!" - TV-14DS The iDOLM@STER Cinderella Girls Episode 10: "Our world is filled with joy!" - TV-14 (review post here, though it went up just today) In conclusion, happy Patriots' Day. I was aiming for an Easter release, but I figured I'd wait just a little because this holiday means more to people where I live. And now, the time is ripe for announcements. I have three new projects I'm giving screenshots to, and the first is a show that is currently airing. After taking a mulligan on takt op. (though I'm not dropping it, I can assure you), I figure it's time to take a crack at a show people actually like, and that show will be Spy×Family. You know, the hot new Shonen Jump thing? Mixed feelings on that magazine (and Crunchyroll, who has this show locked up nice and tight) aside, it looks like a show with a fun premise and interesting characters. Consider it part of the ongoing effort in this thread to include every show that involves CloverWorks and/or Atsumi Tanezaki. Project number two is a little thing called Girls' Last Tour, the second piece of the trinity of great shows to air on Amazon's ill-fated anime streaming channel (all of which Sentai subsequently rescued, because they love you, and you should love them back). Made in Abyss was the first, and the third was Land of the Lustrous, the latter of which I hope to also get to. This will be a rare case of me giving ratings images to a show after having watched it, though I never finished the initial subbed viewing. (This treatment will be dubbed.) Because of this, I know that the ratings won't be as boring as hell. And the last one is something I'm keeping a secret for a little bit longer. All I can say is that it's going to be something off-kilter, but also very special to me, and it'll involve something I haven't done in a very long time. As for some hints, I'll give just one: it's actually a little more obvious than you might think. And in addition, I plan on giving content ratings to Room Camp (also known as Heya Camp for all you weebs), the interquel to Laid-Back Camp which I've never seen, and will then roll right into S2 of the main feature, plus all sorts of ratings for other random crap I ain't seen before. So yeah: get hyped. -

Nice job monopolizing the threads today, even though it feels weird not to have Jman do it. As for me, this'll probably be a great episode, but more than anything, I'm really hoping we get a goodie during the break.

Corporate mergers are icky, but given that this one is more horizontal integration, maybe it'll turn out better?

Made in Abyss, Episode 13 (1-hour finale!)
Blatch replied to Blatch's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Boy, does that ED get at me: revisiting the early layers of the abyss; even Marulk gets confirmation that their friends are okay; and Orth somehow has cherry blossoms, which represent a change of seasons and probably rebirth. Not to mention the tease afterward. Damn evil White Whistle. 😈 LATER, Made in Abyss... until July, at the latest. The movie is available on HIDIVE, but hopefully Toonami will be able to air it soon. And on a more cynical note, no Lupin promo tonight? So we have another night without a goodie, unless they either already aired a music video or are going to cram one in One Piece's slot. Disappointing. Welp, nevermind. Here it is. [lay down and take your rest] -
Made in Abyss, Episode 13 (1-hour finale!)
Blatch replied to Blatch's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Yup, pretty much. As far as "scientifically engineered to make you cry" is concerned, the blanket and stuffed animals go a long way. But for me, it's Nanachi stopping things so she can apologize to Mitty that takes it over the top. After this, we get a little bit of everything: a mysterious flashback, Riko regaining consciousness, more naked funtimes... you know, so things don't get too oppressive. But it's this last past part of the episode that really ties everything together. Get ready to experience the Abyss's beauty one more time. -

Well, don't you worry, because this show has more crazy shit in store. I know of at least one moment in the movie (as I haven't seen it), though it doesn't involve gore. -

I thought you originally chose an MAV for the finale, but I now remember your reasoning. On the plus side, at least Lupin should get the Parasyte treatment now. Interesting approach to the episode intro. New Toonami intro, flashbacks aplenty, and the OP lacks the usual English credits. Now, let's get to the haunted gravy... -

Before we get started, here's some adorable fan art of Nanachi and Mitty as actual people: Better keep looking at it, because this is gonna be the last time you're happy for a while... well, outside of the 90 minutes of Toonami content that comes on before this show. It's finally time to learn what Bondrewd's deal is, and based on the finale promo's suggestion that he sends these two innocent kids directly to Hell, it can't be anything good. 50% DBV this week; better hope your heart (and liver, obviously) can handle it, before Lupin arrives next weekend to steal it again. Woah!

Lupin The 3rd Part 6 premieres 4/16 replacing Made in Abyss
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Schweet. In spite of the fact that I didn't finish either of the previous seasons, I'm down for more Lupin. Helps that Toonami didn't have to resort to stalling this time. -
Jason Demarco Just Gave out some bad news for toonami fans
Blatch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
While I sympathize, CountFrylock has been posting some non-dooming threads lately, like one about Toonami's then-upcoming look. Therefore, on technical grounds, I can only give this post a like. And besides, these juicy downbeat posts tend to get more responses anyway. I don't mind constructive discussion, even if it's negative. Given that Toonami was able to air a show as great as Made in Abyss, I trust them on being able to fill the block with good stuff somehow. For starters, I haven't seen anything that says the Crunchyroll behemoth is going to deny Toonami any and all shows they have. There may come along a series that gets so big CR might want to give it extra TV exposure. Sentai should also be willing to work to get their shows on TV despite their new corporate owner. And I really like the Discotek suggestion, though given that they've always specialized in physical releases I don't know what they might have the TV rights to, or if they even chase those things at all. -
What a great promo. I've already seen it an unusual amount of times (for me, anyway), and I'll be on the lookout for it during the big college basketball game tonight. Really hoping TBS does us a solid, even if it doesn't help much.
