St. Patrick's Day Snog Thread - Kiss Somebody, They're Irish
Blatch replied to romana's topic in General Discussion
They're playing Irish music at the grocery store I work at today. Pretty cool, even if it's mostly fiddle-based songs that tend to blend together. Oh, and U2, of course. So I suppose I'll send a kiss to @PokeNirvash, the reasons for which should be obvious. May your cup of content ratings be filled, as will mine. [congratulations, you coaxed me out of my anime-and-toonami-general hole. also, hbd toonami!] -
Woah, this thread briefly went Type II. I wanted to contribute earlier, but I have nothing to offer about the whole G4 mess. It's too bad Bakuon!! isn't dubbed and probably never will at this point, because if it was, you know I'd be going hard in the paint for it. It's got action, though not what most Toonami fans would expect, though the presence of moe and fanservice probably makes it radioactive relative to DeMarco. I've made my peace about Log Horizon never airing on Toonami, but you have a bit of a point. I wouldn't call it dull, but cerebral, and shows like that aren't for everyone. I'm expecting to finally get around to my rewatch of it at some point and find out it hasn't held up, assuming it ever did. So what is there that I would like to see Toonami get from Sentai that has a realistic chance? All I can think of is Season 1 of The Big O. Maybe cut a deal with them to finally get an HD version of Season 2 out there on top of that.
-
Ohhh, I forgot about that! Good call. I mean, the fact that the dub was delayed may have played a role in me thinking Toonami was more likely to get it, since they'd premiere it. I haven't watched many isekai, and most of them are normie picks regardless of if I only saw one episode in my community college's anime club. The only one I can think of that would be fit to air on Toonami is HameFura... which would be more likely if they were still committed to airing more diverse shows. Too bad, because I've always thought Knight's and Magic, the one under-the-radar isekai I watched, would be a cool pick for the block. But Funimation snapped it up and now Crunchyroll has it, so what're you gonna do? [sadly, it doesn't seem to exist anymore]
-
I remember when I was pretty keen on Re:Zero and I wanted Toonami to air the hell out of that show. When they didn't, that was when my interest in the block started to drift. But nowadays I get the feeling that this was at the start of Crunchyroll giving them the stiff-arm, so I shouldn't have been as disappointed.

Finally, some good fucking... uh, maybe. I mean, MHA is still doubled up, Attack on Titan will have to wait at least one more week, and FLCL Grunge is nowhere in sight, so it seems they're still stalling to some extent. And Food Wars! is a series I punted on a long time ago, so I won't be tuning in. But hey, this is a sign that Toonami isn't totally screwed.

Girls' Last Tour 6 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls 19/20 That's right: I've got a review backlog going. 😤 The Idolm@ster Cinderella Girls Episode 19: "If you're lost, let's sing aloud!"
-
Yeah, that's how I feel. And while the right-wing talking points this user may or may not be peddling are unfortunate, I can put those aside in the game of good-faith debates in this tiny little Internet forum where I doubt most of this will have implications elsewhere.
-
Man, at this point I just want to know when FLCL Grunge is coming out. They still have that, even if they can't get any acquisitions... unless Zaslav has decided to write off both of the new sequels.

Elon Musk now owns Twitter, apparently trying to run it into the ground
Blatch replied to Jman's topic in Current Events
You should be able to get it working again if you just click on the "Let's go!" button and wait. But I can't imagine it would be a bad thing to leave it like that for a while, especially for someone like you. 😏 -
Double MHA and dubbed One Piece crossover to air March 4th
Blatch replied to Toonamiguy321's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
What Shimabukuro did may have been less inherently cancellable than Watsuki's crime, but it's not like I'd be caught dead reading Toriko either. Still, if you're gonna watch this weirdo crossover episode, I hope you have a good time. Now for a general comment: nobody's brought up yet the fact that March 11 is when we lose an hour due to DST. I wonder if [as] might use this as an excuse to schedule another weirdo two-hour Toonami, and who knows how stalling could play into that. My idea was that they'd air the last few episode of Made in Abyss S1, either three or five depending on how they want to play it, and use that as an excuse to throw on a rerun of S2 in the back, because at this point I doubt we're getting anything more than FLCL Grunge once the schedule is ready to ramp back up. Personally, I see them stalling all the way through March 18. Helps that it's ZUN's birthday the weekend of Toonami's anniversary, plus the new AoT thingy should be ready to go by then. The only problem with all this is that it would be weird to go back to a full-scale stall since we're getting new One Piece back even outside of the crossover. And maybe Grunge will be ready by then too? I figure recording for it should be done by now, but I've thought that for, like, a few weeks? -
What will Toonami be doing for April Fool's Day?
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
And 2020 was just a bunch of sneak peeks hosted by Post Malone. Maybe Gemusetto the previous year is going to be the last memorable April Fool's thing [as] ever does, but I hope not. They had a pretty good run going in the late 2010's between that, Bushworld Adventures, and of course the Rick & Morty S3 stealth premiere. A Royal Crackers marathon of all the new episodes (since I guess it's has been ready for a while) would suffice for a gag relating to that show, but then again they already did that with Smiling Friends S1 outside of the holiday. -
Made in Abyss S2E11/12 and Marulk's Daily Life Onimai: I'm Your Sister Now! 1 Been slacking again. If you want, blame catching up on college classes. I wasn't even able to chat about the MiA S2 finale before the thread closed.

A few general responses: Why the heck would Velma air on Toonami? I do think there's a non-zero chance it shows up on [as] proper or even TBS, because WBD is all about that sweet cross-promotion. Bottom line, Jman needs some new material already. Too bad Netflix isn't going to give it to him. Interestingly, I do think that some Max cross-promotion could help with Toonami. It would be cool if Scavengers Reign could air on the block as sloppy seconds. I mean, if that means getting Velma on linear TV, it's a compromise I'm willing to make, so long as Toonami doesn't get the latter. (Also, saying the latter is like Redo of Healer but for HBO Max is... a take. But I haven't seen either, so for all I know it's accurate.) Totally agree with Toonamiguy321 in that all Toonami needs to do is rely on Sentai's back catalog, and maybe Viz's. This made me think of all the shows Viz licensed in Toonami's golden years that people wanted on the block. But the ones I can think of (Blood Lad, Lagrange, etc.) came out long enough ago that Viz might not have the rights to 'em anymore. Made in Abyss wasn't exactly everywhere prior to airing on Toonami, though the series is kinda mainstream in spite of its... yeah. I'm still surprised Toonami actually went for it, even moreso Season 2 since they couldn't air the movie. Now this is the kind of discussion in the ratings thread I can get behind! Too bad it doesn't really have to do with the numbers.

General Content Ratings Thread 2.0: Same Principle, Different Format
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Anime & Manga
Over on Phish.Net, they've been hoping that their "2023 Tour Rumors" thread will eventually hit 200 pages, which is when it gets automaticajoinlly closed. Too bad dates for the summer got announced today, which will steal most of its thunder. Meanwhile, I'm wondering when this one is gonna hit three. Spy×Family Mission:13 - "PROJECT APPLE" - TV-14LV Mission:14 - "DISARM THE TIME BOMB" - TV-14LV Mission:15 - "A NEW FAMILY MEMBER" - TV-PGLV Mission:16 - "YOR'S KITCHEN / THE INFORMANT'S GREAT ROMANCE PLAN" - TV-PGLV Mission:17 - "CARRY OUT THE GRIFFIN PLAN / FULLMETAL LADY / OMELET RICE♥" - TV-PGV Mission:18 - "UNCLE THE PRIVATE TUTOR / DAYBREAK" - TV-14L Last Period -the journey to the end of the despair- Episode 10: "The Happy Elements Episode" - TV-PGDS Episode 11: "Fictional Story" - TV-14S Episode 12: "Last Period" - TV-PGSV Touhou Project Side Story: Memory of Stars - TV-PGV Birdie Wing -Golf Girls' Story- Episode 11: "No Matter How Tall a Weed Grows, It Will Never Reach the Sun" - TV-PGS Episode 12: "Are Aoi and Eve okay together? College. Granted, I also decided that I'd watched the perfect amount of episodes for an omnibus and intentionally put off anything that wasn't Made in Abyss until I finished this. Tomorrow, I look forward to a clean slate... after college. And work. It feels like I haven't added any new shows w/ screenshots to this feature in a while. Then again, I sort of have. It's just that they're all Touhou fanime. For next time, I have one new show I'm thinking of starting, and it's a current simulcast, but it won't have images. Look forward to that plus Memories of Phantasm, the rest of takt op., maybe the rest of SpyFam (though I'm going to feature a good amount of it regardless), and the returns of Re:Stage! and To Your Eternity S2. -

I actually don't know, but I accidentally had my thread marked as Episode 13, when this season had one fewer episode. If you want, I can let you have this one on a technicality.

Yeah, I think we get it. And also, finale movies? Are you just talking about The Venture Bros.? Who knows about that movie, but I don't know of any others [as] has in development. Maybe Metalocalypse? And if anything, I would expect that [as] would put more effort into these movies, because Aqua Teen's was followed by a renewal of the show proper. Personally, I think that if [as] goes the route of celebrity VAs, I hope they go all out and do an entire season of different people vociing Rick and Morty. Have Michael Cusack voice them in one episode, Tracey Morgan in another, get the Impractical Jokers to do something, etc. Then they could either gauge the interest for each casting, or just use it as cover while they workshop other people for the permanent roles.

Birdie Wing -Golf Girls' Story- 13 Interviews with Monster Girls 10-12 and OVA (end) Made in Abyss S2E9/10 Oh, huh, I finished two of these. But Birdie Wing has another season coming. I thought it was weird how this episode wasn't advertised as a season finale. It even had a next-episode preview, with no mention that it isn't coming for another three six months. Couldn't you have at least snuck in a pithy meta comment from Ichina? But hey, this is an excellent show. I just feel like it peaked early on with the underground mafia stuff and the shift to a golfing school hasn't been nearly as entertaining. As for Demi-chans, I also liked this show, but the fact that it also took me a long time to finish (I started it in Spring of 2018!) should maybe tell you something. I wasn't expecting this show to be so cavalier when it comes to sexualizing its characters! Even all the aphrodisiac stuff involving Sakie couldn't have prepared me for the casual jokes about sexual harassment, or focusing on a character's wet feet. This might be kryptonite for some viewers, but I didn't mind it too much. And as I alluded to on Twitter, watching the last few episodes in a row was nice because it not only sync'd up (albeit perversely) with the cold weather we've had in New England, but it made me feel more in sync with the characters. Too bad the show ends on a literal dirty tease that probably won't be followed up on involving a new demi.

Great job invoking classic Internet chat moves with that 1 at the end, though I figure it was an accident. You don't have to fix it.

Funnily enough, I feel the same way. This could be a harbinger of a smaller budget than usual. I guess it might've always been in the cards that they'd use Grunge as a replacement this time around, though. But they won't have that excuse next time (unless Uzumaki is ready by then), and it won't be long, because FLCL is six episodes every time.

Al, you didn't need to turn this into another thread to discuss the upcoming movies/specials when we already have two others for that. Not to mention, I second what Toonamiguy321 said about the next round of replacements.
