This is awesome 2nd parade in 2 years. Avs last year, Nuggs this year. Denver is a really fun place to be right now -
Once you start fusing stuff, and then building stuff, the game gets just WILD. Some of the things people are building are absolutely insane. People are straight up building guided missile launchers at this point.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm. Yeaaaaaa, Someone over at Time might want to pull out a map

I think it could move the support of the "maybe Trumpers" or "whoever the GOP nominee is" bucket of voters. If you are hardcore MAGA or Never-Trump you arent moved by anything at this point, but theres a ton of people in the middle who could be moved by this indictment. Eventually there should also be enough people in the GOP who realize how purely undetectable he is and bolt for another candidate. Should being the key word. I dont know if they will.
-
Completely. Sadly, I think his support bumps up a few points this week. The "rally around the flag" effect, but its rallying around a total PoS. If hes the nominee in 24, the GOP will suffer a historic election defeat. I wonder if there is a point where the GOP essentially bars him from their primary process. It would make the MAGA crowd irate and likely lead to a ton of them staying home, but it could potentially save countless down-ballot Republicans who would otherwise lose if Trump were on the ballot.

Im splitting out the political talk of Trumps Indictment from the other thread. This absolutely should be the end of any of Trumps political hopes. The indictment is scathing and absolutely devastating. Realistically, Im not sure it will move the needle all that much. It sure seems like most of the MAGA types are tripling down on the stupid today. Some are even saying that any GOP candidate that doesnt immediately suspend their campaign is taking part in election interference and is in league with Democrats. Its amazing how stupid the takes are from the MAGA crowd. I really, really, hope that the polls show a total collapse in support for Trump in the coming days. But I have a hard time believing sanity will reign anymore.
-
Its been interesting watching the reaction to this in Conservative spaces. The hardcore MAGA crowd are screaming that its politically motivated, and virtually everyone else is saying, in one form or another, "Bruh, you fucked up." This is looking like its a well thought out, argued, and supported indictment of Trump. It doesnt have the political drippings that the NYC Indictment had. This is a by-the-books indictment.

Occupiers admit hydroelectric power plant blown up by Russian sabotage group https://www.pravda.com.ua/eng/news/2023/06/9/7406062/ The Security Service of Ukraine has intercepted a conversation between the occupiers, in which they said that the Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant was blown up by a Russian sabotage group. "It's not them [Ukraine – ed.] who have struck. Our sabotage group is there. They wanted to scare them with this dam. It didn't go according to plan, it was more than they planned," says the Russian military. This is coming from Ukraine, so it could just be standard propaganda you see during war, but it sure looks like Russia blew it up. And potentially by mistake. They, possibly, didnt intend to blow the damn up to the extent that it did.
-
Its hard to think they didnt. Russia had been raising the level of teh dam for a few weeks now and observers said it was in preparation for a potential intentional flood. The timing is also incredibly in favor of Russia. Just as reports of the UA counter attack started to surface, and reports of UA pushing back Russian troops, the dam breaks and floods what was potentially a key route for the UA to take in their advance. Just seems way to suspicious to me. It has all the hallmarks of standard Russian war procedures. "If we cant take or hold it, destroy it"

Oh, and also there is a canal leading from this reservoir that is critical for the water supply of Crimea. So Russia just cut off the single most important source of fresh water to Crimea in this move.

https://www.reuters.com/world/europe/nova-kakhovka-dam-kherson-region-blown-up-by-russian-forces-ukraines-military-2023-06-06/ Nova Kakhovka dam in Kherson region blown up by Russian forces - Ukraine's military KYIV, June 6 (Reuters) - The Nova Kakhovka dam in the Russian-controlled parts of Ukraine's Kherson region was blown up by Russian forces, the South command of Ukraine's Armed Forces said on Tuesday. "The scale of the destruction, the speed and volumes of water, and the likely areas of inundation are being clarified," the command said on its Facebook page. Nothing short than the largest act of terrorism on the European continent since the shooting in Paris all those years ago. The other thing with this is that the nuclear plant just up the way draws water from this reservoir to keep its reactors cool. So this might not be done.

And once again all the drama around the debt ceiling fades away until it becomes politically useful again in the future.

Well, to be quite honest, I don't care what the lenders think. Having student loans be interest free is the reasonable balance between outright forgiving loans and continuing to fuck people with predatory policies. Same with the payday loans that charge interest so high that it puts people into a permanent debt trap.
-
And thats why I am fine with eliminating the interest on student loans. The interest charges on these loans should not be more than the loan itself. Just make them interest free and get on with it.
-
Thats fair. I would have expected that to get more attention though if only for the political aspects of it. If Congress had not included this provision then they could claim its an activist court going against popular will. With it included that eats into that narrative a bit. Student Loans are a bit of an albatross for Biden as it is. He promised a lot of things around them, and he likely does not have the ability to follow through. The one thing absolutely within his power, ending interest on the loans, is never discussed either. If he were to end interest on the loans, and have all payments be for the principal of them only, then that would get a lot of support. I dont support forgiveness, but I would be able to support interest free loans. Theres very likely a lot of people like that out there. Not for full blown forgiveness, but want to make it more fair somehow.
-
I dont think the work requirements are what would cause Democrats to bail. Its the resumption of Student Loans that would cause them to bail.
-
I havent seen much of anything out of the Senate yet. All the drama is still focused on the House waiting to see what happens there.
-
Suddenly this isnt looking as safe as it did a few days ago. Seems like there are a good number of GOP Reps who are not going to vote for the deal, so Democrats will have to rescue the deal. And from the sound of some of the more vocal members of the Democratic caucus that may be challenging.
-
Its absolutely a false flag attack. Ukraine has no incentive at all to hit civilian targets. Russia, on the other hand, has all the incentive in the world to make it look like the UA hit civilians. This screams false flag attack designed to build support before yet another mass conscription.
-
The more I see of this the more I worry its going to suck horribly. I hope I am surprised, but I dunno. It looks........rough
