I made sure they werent just telling me my water heater was new when I bought my house... It's gas.. and all the components and visible hose/piping looks great, and the manufacture date printed on it was inline with what the previous occupants told me so...*shrugs*

The main take away I'm getting from this thread is I can expect water heater problems myself before I'm probably ready to deal with them.. At least you could afford to buy a new unit I guess..
