  1. Bruh what the fuck is this, unexpected and unpredictable Toonami news? Something we all didn’t see coming from 6 miles away? Am I awake right now? Bit of an odd start date though, unless they are going to wedge in the AoT special and maybe even roll right into the next season of Demon Slayer. This has been creeping up my backlog chart, thankfully I kept telling myself “eh maybe later”. Anyway, the true gem of this announcement is that we finally got a non sequel show. 2023 still goes down as getting zero, but 2024 is starting off strong with one. But with Aniplex opening their door here, our possibilities expand quite a bit. This news isn’t even on the Facebook yet, did Aniplex get a little ahead of themselves on the reveal?
  2. I don’t think it’s a matter of people wanting to wait. Demarco told everyone multiple times it was never going to happen. At that point, not watching it is just being foolish, what are you even waiting for? The Toonami audience has always been pretty loyal to a show running on the block. If we weren’t repeatedly told it was never going to happen, I think a lot of people would have backlogged it.
  3. Idk about that. With no other context, yea it’s decent, or more like average. But considering this is the show we sacrificed the quality of the block for 10 months for? Those numbers are garbage. The midnight FLCL rerun 2 weeks ago got 200/0.09. This is barely better and probably has 3-4 acquired shows worth of budget sunk into it. Age? Popularity? Demarco telling people it would never air? Combination of them all? Whatever the case, they gambled hard on this and it looks like they only stand to break even.
  4. I hope you like ketchup man. There aren’t a lot of constants with Toonami scheduling, but taking a two week break at the end of the year is one that has been extremely consistent. The 23rd is way too close to Christmas to blow any kind of premier on, and they always stick another one the week after.
  5. I think an ideal scenario for them is AoT right at midnight. But that won’t do as it would leave Demon Slayer hanging. So they will settle for 12:30 and get an extra week out of Dr Stone. Personally I don’t think they really care about how far behind they get. Less is better of course, but I don’t think they are going to sweat it. Remember the looped episode of the last part of the season? There was an easy way to fix that and keep it on pace, but they took the most roundabout nonsense way they could think of and ended up slowing its run down.
  6. I agree and I wish they understood that the block airs for 45ish weeks per year, and almost all 45 of those weeks need to be decent. The way things are, 7 weeks will be slightly above average and 38 were subpar to downright garbage. Occasional spurts of activity don’t make up for stretches of bad that are this long. They are going to get tested immediately when the new year starts as they will have a slot to fill. Even if more Demon Slayer is on the table, that makes me nervous for later in the year where instead of backloading the budget in 2023, they will frontload it in 2024 and we will have another fall stretch of nothing. They definitely need to get more realistic on what they can get. I don’t think they just wanted WfM or Bleach, they probably put money aside thinking it was a sure thing. And now with Mugen Train airing, we know that no matter how many times they are told no, they keep trying to get the same things. An entire year without a single fresh title, just sequel after sequel. They have plenty of schedule filler crutches for next year too. Scavengers, Superman S2, Rick and Morty anime, that’s 30+ weeks of content right there. Then there are originals Ninja Kamui, Lazarus, Uzumaki(lol), I think the first two are 12 episodes each. That’s enough backlogged stuff to coast on for the whole year while only picking up 1-2 shows and saving most of the years budget for a futile play for Dragon Ball Diaper. The only major shift on the lineup we will see is Naruto will no longer be around to be reliable schedule filler. In theory, that’s good news, an extra slot to play with to cycle more content. In reality, they will most likely piss away the opportunity.
  7. I’ll throw in with you on this gamble 12 - Demon Slayer 12:30 - AoT part 2 2:30 - IGPX Iirc it’s right on the edge of being 90 minutes so I think it’s gonna need a 2 hour slot.
  8. Earlier in the year quite a few people speculated it might be one of the 2023 pickups but that didn’t come to pass. Personally, I’d rather not. The new anime butchers the source material with modern day sensibilities, and without the fanservice it’s a pretty mid series. Air shows by their own merit, not just who wrote them.
  9. Well they don’t have a choice, a week and a half ago they added IGPX into the weekly rotation, it wasn’t just gonna stop after rerunning 1-2
  10. I think One Piece is going to exist as the exception, not the norm in regards to live action anime adaptions.
  11. No shock there, the leaked scripts and artwork made it pretty clear there was no “season 2” and they had 20 episodes from the jump that they just split in half. Standard operating procedure for shows in 2023.
  12. So some good news, Zap2it is showing Shippuden at 2am on the 26th, so it looks like we are free and clear on Thanksgiving this year. I have to assume the past 3 dead weeks plays some part in that choice.
  13. Iirc the DST hour doesn’t count ratings so even if it was a good night IGPX wouldn’t have gotten numbers
  14. No. They have done this before where the on air promo gives the wrong time. Sometimes they fix it, sometimes they don’t.
  15. Yep, that sure is true. But they ain’t doubled up no more, now are they?
  16. That math is pretty far off, 36 weeks from next week is more like June or so. And of course there is a guarantee of a delay on Christmas and New Years, so that’s extra weeks at least. Anyway, I doubt there is any real plan with how things have been. I’d imagine One Piece will be bumped down and become the new permanent final premier of any schedule, but for what takes its place is anyone’s guess. We still haven’t had Crunchyroll give up a new show, so we can’t rely on them, and Demarco doesn’t want to tap Sentai under any circumstances so we don’t have much to go on. There was absolutely zero enthusiasm for Boruto, so going back to that would be just lazy. Maybe TOM just congratulates the viewers on their perseverance and signs off for the last time.
  17. Oh my, I miscounted the weeks. Then Mugen Train at 12, AoT at 12:30. Then whatever fits its slot at the end, if there is even time left. On the 25th if Crunchyroll wants the stream greenlight ASAP, or the 16th if they want the staff to have plenty of time to finalize it. Id say Scavengers is next year material, either right in January to replace DS, or if we get more DS, to replace Dr Stone in Feb/March. Well, that makes the DST event completely pointless, but at least it gives the remaster team a few extra weeks of breathing room.
  18. If they were not taking time off on the 25th, there was no reason to double up DS on the 11th. Im still putting my bet on the board, AoT part 2 on the 25th. It airs on the 4th, that’s 21 days to dub 84 minutes of content. We live in a time where a 22 minute episode can be turned around in 24 hours. It’s a crunch, but it’s a crunch they are used to. Nobody in this cast reel needs coached, they know their characters front to back at this point. With how quickly CR is handing over Dr Stone, I can’t see them throwing a 6 month wrench into AoT again. In my eyes, it’s Demarco trying to save face in the end of the year. In his eyes, IGPX counts as a “get” because it’s remastered, so it’s “new”. Since it’s in the rerun slot, if there is a delay, they will just loop an episode or something and there won’t be many complaints because the rerun slot is dead air to most people. Now if there are complaints, Demarco can claim the November schedule added 3 shows.
  19. The timeslot shift isn’t that big of a deal. If you are watching Toonami in 2023 you probably aren’t here for just one show so you are gonna catch it being only one slot off. With the pitiful state of the block this year I don’t think you will find anyone upset that Dr Stone has to air at 1am for one week.
  20. I just hope the pressure to get it done does not negatively affect the final product. Without a Toonami run, they could have taken their time and got it done when it was done. Now they are on a time crunch, assuming 11/11 is episode 3 they have to get that episode done in the next 10 days. Doable, but unnecessary pressure. Pretty unlikely, especially when accounting for other upcoming schedule gaps they have to fill. I don’t think Demon Slayer will fill midnight for a full year even if we take no breaks. Ninja Kamui is the only promise for 2024, Lazarus was just a hopeful 2024, so I can see that one falling into 2025 with their current track record on originals. I don’t think they would have any issue parking it at 12:30, and probably will do so when R&M and Scavengers make their appearance. Dr Stone will be gone in February and Naruto (at current pace) will be gone in June so there will be holes to fill. One Piece is the eternally flexible slot. If they need room, they cut an episode. If they have room, they add an episode.
  21. It was not, and it’s a point of concern going into next year. They used UWE and Superman as a cheap time filler to make things feel less stagnant, and next year they can use Rick and Morty anime and Scavengers to fill time and not spend money as well. Ninja Kamui and Lazarus have bigger episode counts so they won’t be the forgotten sneeze FLCL was. Since they got Mugen Train, is stands to reason that other seasons of DS are also obtainable. Immediately or if they have to wait for it to age more is up in the air, but I fear we will see a repeat of 2023 in 2024 as they pool nearly all the budget together to attempt to land more Demon Slayer and make an honest attempt at landing Dragon Ball Diaper. Our only hope would be someone else landing an early exclusivity deal on DB that would at least have them not bother trying to get it this year. I do wonder how they will deal with stalling efforts without Naruto. Losing an anchor show is probably going to be their biggest challenge of 2024, especially if they are dead set on only chasing popular sequels.
  22. Not sure if this guy is just playing coy or if Demarco is really stupid enough to try to force this get done faster. I hope this isn’t costing the block money. Id argue we have 3 delays coming up before 2024, but those are holidays for everyone so they probably won’t make much headway on the project during those weeks.
  23. I applied for this job but on the interview test there was a question that asked you to write one good thing about Jason Demarco which made my eyes bleed trying to think of an answer which I never did, resulting in my immediate disqualification.
  24. Lol did the guy from Discotek panic that he was gonna break an NDA or something? Because we took a huge leap from “guys chill it’s nowhere close to being done!” to “it’s on the normal schedule starting 11/11!” IGPX aside, this is shaping up just as I predicted. Actually, I originally was of the belief IGPX was the new 2:30 show before that dude said it wouldn’t be, so I’d say my track record is 100% here. Aside from marathons (which I don’t care about) this schedule is locked in till next year, so we finally have a bit of a reprieve for checking for updates.
  25. Make of this what you will, online schedules have updated to reflect the graphic we were given. But 2:30, and for whatever reason, 3:30 are still hidden/undecided. The UWE in the TBD sandwich starts this Saturday and is confirmed to not be part of the block. Doesnt 100% confirm the cut, but it mirrors last years cut where the former Toonami time was given to a Toonami fitting show to ease people into the change. Wouldn’t be surprised to see Superman parked at 2:30.
