  1. Believe it or not, I was just about to edit my comment as it just clicked with me that he was suggesting if people were accusing Demarco, not if Demarco was the one making accusations. And you know what, I still wouldn’t believe them. For all Demarco’s flaws, never once have I felt he had an issue keeping his dick in his pants. If something came out, I’d be genuinely shocked because there hasn’t been a single sign.
  2. What? When have I ever believed something Demarco has said? I’d be even more skeptical if it was Demarco.
  3. So what you are saying is, for multiple years the people who put on cons knew Vic was allegedly a creep, but still phoned him up to be a headliner at the con? Something doesn’t add up there. Either various con staff are complicit in aiding Vic, or the accusations are heavily overblown and the con staff disregarded them.
  4. One simple word, Oda. You have the script writers and actors there with Oda to ask questions. Is this characterization correct? Is the story flow acceptable? Are these plot points small enough that we can omit them? And so on and so forth. It really seems like that’s all it takes. You also have Oda there to put a swift stop to bad things. Should this character spew memes? No. Should we change story elements to push an agenda? No. Should a character say “welcome to the ouch”? No. For a secondary factor, I feel like the entire staff of this genuinely likes One Piece and wants to make a product Oda will be proud of. Compare with Bebop where it seemed like some of the staff just resented anime in general.
  5. Because I remember the internet in the mid to late 00s. Finding fanfiction about the authors self insert and Vic McNuggets was not uncommon. We can’t just blindly believe what claims anonymous people make as there is no way to verify their legitimacy, and since they are anonymous, they are at zero risk for repercussions if they made the entire thing up. Cancel culture makes situations like this hard to work with without hard evidence. Twitter decided one day it was socially acceptable to shit on Vic, come forward with whatever stories you like, Vic is certified “bad” so make shit up if you feel like it, people will just blindly believe it, and also turn a blind eye if you get caught telling lies.
  6. None of which can actually be proven, and when opportunity arose to come forward under oath, no one did. Vic was the 00s weeb girl wet dream, a lot of accusations come off as memories the person WISHED happened, not what actually happened. That’s what most Vic stories are. “I heard Vic did X at a con from my friend”. You would think if Vic was the blight on cons rumors suggest he was, they would have stopped inviting him to them a decade ago.
  7. This seems very strategic, one month before the new voice reveal, drop some new “evidence” to help justify not giving him his roles back in R&M. I still stand in the camp that text messages are one of the easiest things to fake, and we have already had one accuser recant their accusations. Strangely, Scott Freeman actually did a couple more roles with Funi after his charges. I suppose it could have been stuff that was already recorded and they just didn’t want to bother redoing it all, I don’t believe any were huge roles. In comparison, he was immediately tossed out of Highschool DxD, which unfortunately was bundled with Teri Rogers departure which made people ask even more questions. Anyway, I believe Scott Freeman was forced by law to relocate to another state, and if you aren’t in Texas or New York, good luck getting any voice work, even without charges like that hanging over your head. Kind of an apples to oranges comparison though. Freeman actually had the content on his computer. Hard evidence of his crimes. Vic and Roiland is all hearsay with a bunch of shoddy evidence that either of them actually did anything wrong.
  8. You are correct, quite a few episodes in fact did worse than this, which is why I had such low expectations for this on top of the excessive delay. Not a bad night, but before I cheer for Grunge I want to see it’s week 2. If I’m remembering right, HCC also had a decent premier episode, followed up by 3 bombs.
  9. Bro has been saying repeatedly she has ducked and dodged drug tests, and y’all just keep glossing over that little bit as if it’s not some level of proof. If you have ever had a job with drug tests, if you say “I don’t wanna” they let your ass go because the reason you don’t want to 99% of the time is cause it’s gonna come up positive. Pretty much every person on earth has one arm that’s stronger than the other. That’s normal. It actually being visibly different is not. That’s why this joke worked. Contrary to what you seem to believe, beating your dick isn’t actually a workout.
  10. You are acting like people don’t do the exact same thing to male athletes who have abnormally large muscles. Not even just athletes, you think The Rock slips by without accusations of roid use? You don’t get arms like that at the gym. This is such a bizarre thing for multiple people to be aggressively defensive about.
  11. If Crunchyroll doesn’t interfere, I could see them airing it on Thanksgiving weekend.
  12. It seems that the hour helping of OP and Naruto is not just for next week, and will continue until further notice according to TV Passport
  13. Not one word he said was racist. She DOES look roided out. If she was white she still would look roided out. And fleeing to a panic room when the roid check patrol stops by certainly makes it seem like she is hitting the roids.
  14. Only because with a few small tweaks, it wouldn’t be FLCL at all, and rather a 6 episode teen girl drama. Haruko shows up periodically to do something wacky to remind you that you are watching FLCL, and then leaves to let the rest of the cast work. If Demarco wasn’t so dead set on desecrating the corpse of FLCL he would probably have a bundle of passable mini series.
  15. I don’t think anyone needed to see more than the trailer to determine that this would be garbage. And if places like IGN and ANN are willing to have a “it’s bad” headline, it has to be REALLY bad. Nostalgiabait garbage will usually get a meh review at worst. Can’t wait to see Demarco do damage control on this for the next few months.
  16. They can’t get anything else, they gotta act like this is the greatest thing on earth, because from their perspective it has to be.
  17. Fire Force had kind of a weird announcement where everything it was doing was bundled with Dr Stone. The two shows have absolutely zero to do with each other, but summer 2019 articles paired the two together constantly. I assume that’s what put it on their radar since Dr Stone likely caught their eye. There are a lot of slightly older skewing shonen from different magazines that would have been a better fit for the block than most Jump shows that they never gave a look. Fire Force was in the right place at the right time, and because Toonami got it so quickly, its fanservice didn’t get a chance to scare Demarco away from it.
  18. Zom 100 isn’t a Jump title, so how do we know it would even be on their radar? Even years prior when things were easier? So often we see a hot seasonal show, discuss it as something Toonami would go for, only to learn that Demarco doesn’t even know what it is. I’m open to anything fresh, that just doesn’t seem like something that would be on their radar. The question in this scenario would boil down to how they buy the show. If they buy it by the arc, then they have over 100 episodes of Dressrosa locked in according to the 9/16 schedule. Or, maybe 50 or so if Dressrosa is cut in half purchase wise. If the early theory that they bought a flat 150 episode order is true, they might be boned a little faster if the price goes up.
  19. How many times do we have to do this? Demarco very clearly stated he is still involved when it comes to picking and acquiring shows. Every other problem the block has falls on Gill. Which thinking about it, around the time Demarco said Gill was in charge is about the same time bumpers stopped going 10 months without change, so it seems he may actually be an upgrade in that respect. Nowhere in my post was the word “free” used. I’m not expecting handouts here, but if there were partnerships, distributors could help the block find shows in their catalog within their budget. And what kind of bizzaro mental gymnastics are you trying to work here to tie the blocks disastrous state in 2023 to the pandemic? 2020? 2021? Ok. Both of those years were better than 2023, but yes, somehow the pandemic that is in the rear view for most people is why 2023 Toonami sucks. Now is as good a time as any to remind the class that Toonami had THREE timeslot cuts in 2020 before Covid was official. Plague or no plague, this block was losing a lot of meat in 2020.
  20. Yours is worse. What is the point of adding more time? How many fans do you see screaming for the block to have more reruns? In fact, you yourself admit to struggling to even keep up with 3 hours. When the 9/16 schedule dropped I saw quite a few people happy at the prospect of a cut removing a rerun. MHA is going to end early next year, and since we didn’t get any damn shows this year, MAWS/UWE/FLCL can rotate through that slot and be ignored by most of the audience.
  21. Because in 10 weeks, MAWS would end and that would be another 30 minutes they struggle to fill. Not to mention more Blum and Dana bills as well as bumpers to make.
  22. When the guy outright says he generally dislikes isekai, yea I think I’m gonna blame him when we don’t get any isekai. Trash or not, it’s the most popular genre in most recent seasons. Turning your nose up at the entire genre that is showing no signs of slowing in popularity as well as almost always ticks the “action” box is why so many people perceive this block as an out of date relic not worth their time.
  23. I wonder how much these reviews can be attributed to Oda being involved. Not to discredit the work they have done and the fact that they actually invested money into this, but I do feel like there is some level of bias from people who “like” it just because Oda asked them to do so. Original creators should ALWAYS be involved, but I’d love to see a compilation of reviews from people who don’t care much about One Piece as they would be the least likely to be biased towards Oda.
  24. Definitely it’s worst year of the revival era. Two acquisitions 3/4 through the year, and maybe 2 originals assuming Uzumaki makes it. I think the only thing this year that could h considered an improvement is packaging updates. What was it, 2-3 months deep into Punk Hazard and we still had Fishman bumps last year? That have done much better keeping things up to date. Im gonna say best case scenario is one more acquired show before the end of the year. But consider the 9/16 schedule has yet to be amended, I wouldn’t be surprised if we are just riding out OP and Naruto till Christmas.
  25. My main concern would still be, who exactly is the market? If you want to get up to speed on One Piece, do you commit 206 consecutive weekdays to doing so via cable? Or just handle it on your own which allows you to skip the OP and recaps for a more efficient journey? I feel like the only reason Toonami works is because it’s a 4x a month commitment with a die hard fanbase cultivated over 20 years. This is obviously not the way anyone should be watching OP or Naruto, but it’s part of the experience, only recently becoming the only part of the experience. I could see a smaller anime working out on a weekday run (so long as it’s had a sizable gap from its last Toonami run), but these giant shonen? It doesn’t make sense. A 26 day commitment to a 2 cour show would be just a little over a month 5 days a week. For the average One Piece arc that’s not even the half way point.
