rpgamer Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 Why can't laptops just use some actual sturdy hinges? D= 1 2 Quote
scoobdog Posted August 15, 2024 Posted August 15, 2024 I was kind of hoping you were going to say someone made a hydrogen bomb out of a cyber truck. 3 Quote

(it's duct tape >.>) I did this with my first laptop, maybe even second, but eventually graduated to epoxy putty. Tape eventually loses adhesion as the hinge keeps fighting it. Plus all that residue, bleh. Epoxy putty says "the hinge inside will break long before this ever pops open again." This was also back when it was somewhat prohibitive for me to just replace the hinge.. 2 Quote
scoobdog Posted August 21, 2024 Posted August 21, 2024 What broke? It looks to me that there was a metal bar embedded into the case that the circular hinge attached to. It a bit blurry so I can't tell if the case itself broke or the hinge on screen bezel broke, Quote

It a bit blurry so I can't tell if the case itself broke or the hinge on screen bezel broke, There is a metal hing screwed into 4 brass inserts which are molded into plastic. It's almost always the plastic part that fails and this case is no different. You can really see it in the 2nd picture. I've seen people drive bolts all the way through to bottom of their laptops to fix them. Edited August 21, 2024 by Sieg67 1 Quote

Made from all natural free range duckt. 1 Quote
