Master-Debater131 Posted January 23 Posted January 23 I cant link to it because its behind a NYT payroll, but apparently Trump told Russia that if they dont get serious about ending the war hes going to slap a shit ton of sanctions on them. Ill believe it when I see it, but it does seem to represent the most forceful stance he has taken on Russia so far. Â Also, we are more than 24 hours into his Presidency and the war is still on. So the whole "24 hour thing".....yeaaaaaaaaa.......... 1 1 Quote

I saw it on NYT. As far as I can tell, thats the toughest language he has used toward Russia yet. Quote

Raptorpat Posted January 27 Posted January 27 I'd wager that's technically true, just like it's Trump's fault the Afghan defense collapsed all at once because his bilateral peace negotiations collapsed and the Afghan military knew they were either losing to the Taliban or being handed over to the Taliban. How so?  I don’t doubt it, but I cant recall any specific error that prolonged the war on the part of the administration. Quote
Raptorpat Posted January 27 Posted January 27 No, it's the reverse. Excuse me if there's any mistakes but here's the basic narrative. Trump Admin negotiated bilaterally with the Taliban, completely cutting the Afghan government out of the conversation. They had an agreement, I think the Taliban would merge with the government to preserve some reforms but give them control back. So effectively he sold out the government and it's military without letting them have a say. And then the deal fell apart at the last minute because Trump demanded a photo op signing ceremony at Camp David and the Taliban demanded a signed agreement before they set foot in the country. Real stupid shit. I hope there's more nuance to it. So the agreement fell apart and they gave the US until like May to get out before the shooting resumed. Biden admin got a couple month extension until like August or whenever the withdrawal happened, but was still caught unprepared. BECAUSE AS IT TURNS OUT, if the Afghan military knows you tried selling them out and defeat is all but assured, they're just going to lay down their weapons rather than delay the inevitable just for your sake. So the Taliban swept the country immediately beyond that airport, and everyone saw the results. 3 Quote
