That place is about 2 mi from my first apt in Chicago and under a mile from the Damen/Milwaukee/North six corner area where the "Double Door" once stood.Ā

Be advised, there have been a lot of car jackings (though the cops say that recent tactics have lessened that) and quite a few shootings on the expressways.

Be safe & enjoy your gig and the city while you're there.

Oh man, I think if you go to the top of the Hancock tower you have to get aĀ drink, get Great Lakes brewer's Edmund Fitzgerald porter. It's the best beer I ever had, try it if you don't even like beer. And if you dont wanna bother going up 100 floors for an overpriced beer share a six pack with your friends.

Very much the best beer I have ever had.

It's not too bad to sit at a table 100 floors up in Chicago and have a thirteen dollar beer. Might be twenty now, lol.

an entire case of bottles is only $30 at wholesale. 1/6bbl is $65, and 1/2bbl is $150.Ā if you bought a single serving of it for $13, you got jacked. it's *maybe* an $8 beer, tops, in metro markets.

Oh I know I did, but having the best beer I've ever had 100 floors up was a fun experience. There are times to be a skinflint and times to let that go.

fair enough. i think you're selling yourself short with the "best beer i ever had" being a standard porter. maybe it was the best beer experience you ever had, but it could have come fromĀ any beer in that environment?

whatever, you do you bud.Ā šŸ»

I like porters. There's a Russian one I really like, I think it's Baltjka? That Edmund Fitzgerald was phenomenal though. They forgot about my drink and the whole thing was a pain in the ass. I went to the bar andĀ he told me the waitress had to bring it to me, and she forgot. So we're ready to get out and I've waited 20 minutes for this beer I want to down and bail and that first chug was absolutely delicious.

i mean, if it's your holy grail and you've been missing it, i can mail you a few bottles. there's a case or two in the walk-in.

Probably will. What else is in chicago?

You can find any type of food you want, any nationality.Ā  If you want to stick with Chicago fare, Thin Crust/Tavern style pizza at D'Agostino's near Wrigley or find a place that does Italian Beef (they're everywhere).Ā  There's the Museum Campus (Field Museum (see the movie "Relic"), Adler Planetarium, Shedd Aquarium), all a nice stretch of the legs from the Art Museum (see the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off").Ā  Cloud Gate (aka The Bean).Ā  The Mag Mile.Ā  Ghost Tours, Architectural Tours, Gangland Tours (there are still bullet holes in Holy Name Cathedral from when Hymie Weiss was gunned down in 1926, and Dillinger's Alley steps from the Biograph Theater).Ā  There's the original Billy Goat Tavern on lower Wacker Drive (cheezboigie,Ā cheezboigie).Ā  Sears Tower and the Hancock buildings have great observation decks.Ā  Great Blues bars (Kingston Mines, Buddy Guy's Legends where I saw Buckwheat Zydeco, Blues Etc, B.L.U.E.S), Hip Hop clubs, House of Blues, Jazz bars (The Green Mill was a Capone haunt and a couple blocks from where the 3 Stooges started)...Ā  There's the Museum of Science and Industry (ever been on a U-Boat?) on the South Side.Ā Ā

Of course, what's open depends on how the COVID thing is going in Chicago.

Tzar is Crowbar still around?

Anyway, get a good Giordano'sĀ  pie with sausage and spinach (deep dish pizza).

I'll second Green Mill, great place to relax.

Museum campus is good, the boat tour is nice as well as long as it isn't too windy.

Mag mile is a tourist trap and a magnet for thieves, avoid it.

Violence is rampant just about everywhere, so travel in groups.

Parking is an utter nightmare and a scam, so be prepared for a massive ripoff.

Not sure on Crobar - it doesn't show up anywhere on the Chicago Bar Project, but does on Google as being in a Whole Foods, which is odd.Ā  Deep Dish is ok once in awhile, but it's not the Chicago staple.Ā  Mag Mile is more for people watching, not shopping.Ā  You don't need to travel in groups if you learn how to use reflections in storefront windows and not show off your phone/cash - don't look like a tourist/mark/easy target, same as any big city.Ā  I also forgot to mention Goose Island Brewery.

Man, and here I thought Chicago Style was deep dish.

That's what we tell the tourists.Ā  Tavern style is what Chicagoans eat, crispy thin crust, sauce base, toppings then cheese.Ā

Forgot to mention, you could check out any one of the Comedy Clubs too.Ā  I don't know what the situation will be with Covid in June, but there's iO Theater (Improv Olympic) and of course, Second City.Ā  Second City was up for sale - I think someone bought it so I don't know if they'll have anything going on by that time.Ā  Then again, that would be a bit of a "Busman's Holiday".

Yeah that is pretty weird.Ā  Liars Club & The Red Lion (Brit pub)Ā both are supposed to be haunted.Ā  I went to the Lion before I heard it was haunted & told the friend I was with that I bet it was.Ā  There was something to the vibe of the place - I figured someone died upstairs & the story is that a woman committed suicide up there.
