so i'm like 2 days late getting this shit done, but idgaf. we lost our accountant for the corporation that owns our bars, back in the start of covid. i've been completely on my own in handling payroll and wage reporting. needless to say, there was a bit of a learning curve to overcome. last week i was trying to get shit wrapped up so i could cut everyone their w-2 forms, and i realized our old accountant had fucked up A LOT of old filings. so i've spent the last week figuring out exactly what she borked, then filing amended 941 returns for every.fucking.quarter of 2020. this morning, i got all of the penalties and shortages figured out, finished up the federal unemployment filing, and cut every last god damn one of those w-2 forms. and i even submitted our w-3 up to ssa.

payroll 2020 is

FUCKING

DONE

and now i need a cocktail to celebrate.

next on the list: corporate income tax return. this one might be a tad over my head...

on behalf of the person responsible for getting you that last w-2, your patience is warmly appreciated...even if they should have been done with it last week. i'm sure they aren't being a dick on purpose.

Meh I'm wondering if the W2 I'm waiting for is really worth it honestly. It's the one from the temp agency I worked for after my other civ job laid me off from seasonal work even though they wanted to hire all the seasonal peeps, but turned around and said they couldn't give out the hours.. 2020 was a real bullshit year for me, and I probably still need to put in a lot of effort to turn the shit around.

if you were paid and had taxes deducted from it, they're required to send you a w-2. and you're probably better off waiting for it to arrive, because it could reduce your tax bill / increase your refund if you had more than necessary deducted.

if they didn't deduct taxes from your pay, they'd be sending you a 1099, but only if you earned more than $600.

Yeah I know man.. I just don't really know about temp agencies except all that you just said.. Like do I need to be a stickler and when...but don't worry I will probably be a stickler pretty soon if that w2/1099 doesn't turn up...I'm pretty sure I checked to have taxes taken out if I needed to, but fuck if I remember..🙄

Sounds like it was almost (if not completely) a good thing your accountant up and left if they screwed up so much shit.

i'd been meaning to let her go for the last couple years, but i wasn't ready to take over all the accounting because i have no formal education or experience in that area. i spent the last few years slowly assuming new responsibilities as i found time and had the confidence to do it, but i still had a long way to go when she went dark back in apr/may. she was having some health issues and had started slipping on a lot of shit, and it was a good time for her to go. but with everything going on over the last year, i didn't have a lot of time to dedicate to learning a whole new trade. picking up all that slack has been a pain, but i'm juuuuust about competent enough to do all of it now.

Borked - haven't heard that phrase in a while.

Cleaning up after someone, particularly if they checked out long before leaving, is always so much fun.  Good on you for fighting through it for others!

So apparently I could've had my taxes done already as well. I called the temp agency, and they said they have them there, and I have to come sign for it. :| Of course I should've expected that from a temp agency, but come on... Can't even mail the shit in the middle of a pandemic?

Also I about shit myself when I opened this national guard w2...Then I remembered my main w2 I have to get from a 'secure' govt  website, but big fed apparently just mailed my NG deployment earnings on a seperate w2. :|

One more w2 to add to the pile of tax paperwork here...........

edit: It says Texas military department on it so it being fed wasn't the reason I just flip flopped that.. Apparently my state paid for that whole waste of tax dollars/ military budget exercise. (riot response) Don't blame me I just did my job. My unit didn't end up assisting police anywhere here anyway, we were just on standby, and had to fucking convoy military vehicles all over ther damn state.

I mean, not yet... He's asked me to run for alderman a couple times and I'm not interested in that. I might be cheap, but I'm not easy.

That's a lie. I'm easy too.
