You could’ve gotten that done for HALF that.

Well, he didn't give a price for labor (or anything really, but they probably went ham on him)....Brakes and pads are probably about a cnote, assuming he has some small car.

If he paid for the house brake fluid, oil and filters they probably snatched his grill out for that.....Smarter to shop for your own shit and then just pay for labor.

I have no idea what a tire rotation would cost because after they put the rubber on the rim, that's the extent of tire work I'll allow.

But yeah, rube pricing...I thing 600 is about right.

I specifically asked for a tire rotation, brake check, oil change, and air filter change. The only thing extra they got from me was the brake fluid flush, but I knew I never done that since I've owned the car, so I just went along with it.

I know I probably could have gotten it cheaper had I bothered learning car shit myself, but I'm too lazy for that.

I mean, I don't know what you drive or where you live so it may be legit for your car and area....I was just spitballing.

I drive a Rogue. The roads here are absolute shit and motorists frequently need tire realignments. I just decided to take my car to the shop today because the squeaky noises when braking recently turned into grinding noises. I barely have money now, but I knew if I didn't act now I would have been fucked soon.

You're comparing the cost of the raw part to the cost of getting it done at a mechanic which doesn't make sense

Okay, front brakes cost an hour of labor. So let's say $130.

If a fucking shop mechanic takes even an hour to swap pads and rotors he is milking you, because I can do brakes using jack stands and hand tools in half an hour.

So you're saying ideally altogether it should have cost what...500? Ok well costs for these things vary across the country and sometimes because people are busy it's really just worth it to go with whoever can get you in that day.

The brake fluid flush doesn't sound necessary at all but I don't think it could've added too much to the bill.

You completely missed the point. "Rotors are expensive" is wrong.

As for the rest of his bill, a lot of places throw in tire rotation for free with an oil change. My guess is he went to a higher end place or a dealer. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised of the brake fluid flush (which is nothing more than a money grab in most cases) was the most costly thing, because of how time consuming it is.

Lets not forget everything costs more when u arent in bumfuck nowhere. While driving thru squeal-like-a-piggy county WV I saw a hotel for $15/night

My same lotion costs $7 here in youngstown ohio and $23 in santa barbara

So lets think a minute here ppl

No it isn't, getting new rotors like op did is expensive, mr moneysharks.

Then you are going to the wrong places.

Like, here's an example. All four front ball joints on a 2007-2019 Jeep Wrangler is a $500 job, that is if everything comes apart easily. In the case of my mom's Jeep, I broke a ball joint press tool trying to get it apart, so I buttoned it back up and she took it to a well known shop who charged her $200.

A dealer probably would have charged $1200 and "found other things wrong"

I bought drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads for $89, so no.

Can you guys help me then and tell me where I can buy that? Bc if I'm wrong I'd like to know where I can get cheaper parts. I'm planning on getting a car again soon

Just take the L dude.

He can't, because he knows everything about everything despite having no barometer to know anything....And once there is nowhere else to go, he'll resort to the hog talk.

Nah, rotors are expensive

Even for my BRAND new 2020, the rotors and pads, together, are like $100 for ALL 4 in the set. So....not very expensive. Parts are super cheap.
Labor can be expensive, but it's really not, if you know where to go, or just simply know how to do it.

internet kinda says they're not good

My Jeep has Detroit Axle wheel bearings as well as axle shaft UV joints I put on 18,000 miles ago and the brakes I just put on 1200 miles ago... no issues. And in the case of the bearings... the Jeep has oversized tires AND has been off-roaded hard/sits happy at 80 on the highway.
