They had a kernel of truth and teeth to their argument, as the original depictions of zombies had their hold in racist implications of people, especially those of African decent. The "No" in that the modern interpretation is not based on that, but still has footholds in it. 1

I mean the word zombie does come from Haitian french, but if you're saying zombies are racist just because writers and hollywood capitalized on them being a widely circulated legend amongst voodoo practicioners I gotta say meh.. I mean even saying "well the writers made everyone assume all black people were affiliated with voodoo." is a stretch.. I'm not saying a racist zombie flick or video game can't exist I'm sure they do, but just having a black zombie or black characters that partake in crime and other stuff that fits that society driven stereotype in your story isn't inherently racist.. I mean I'm pretty sure this movie from about the same time had a bunch of panties in an uproar.. Good old fashion influenza; which don't get me wrong it's a pretty resilient and deadly beast to even be alive today! Supposingly a lot of people don't even experience noticable symptoms for a significant time after contracting the virus, and they can pass the virus to others the entire time they are like that.. I got hooked on the story after watching some "Let's Play " videos.
