knowing these are humans now....and where the humans are inside of them......why can't they pluck the humans out while the titans are inactive like this? without killing them?

I'm not sure you can just pull someone out of a pure Titan like you can a Shifter, I'm guessing you probably can't, but don't know.

Though I guess I wonder if they'll say for sure one way or the other

I give part 2 of Season 3 high ratings. This was pretty good stuff.

The filler laden 2nd season and mostly boring political intrigue of S3 part 1 really derailed this show but I think it might have gotten back on track.

all that stuff set the stage for this, resulting in a particularly rewarding payoff

I liked a bunch of that stuff, aside from especially some S2 pacing at times, but glad to see you coming back around in interest :)

Didn't need to be anywhere near that long or convoluted to get to this point =P

Half of S2 was just introducing a bunch of cannon fodder characters that got wiped out.

Well, we finally reached the sea!

Grade: 4.5

Boy, it really does seem other than the Colossal (Armin) and the Attack (Eren), we might not even have any Titans going forward. That's going to be rather strange!

Though I guess at some point Zeke and Reiner, a.k.a. the Beast and the Armored Titans, will show up again too. But I really hope this final season doesn't devolve to the Eldians and their Titans mowing down the Marleyans as if THEY are the villains! Such a twist wouldn't be outside the realm of possibility with Death Note's director, though!

Y'know, just thought of something, possibly a major plot hole.

Shifter power is transferred by having someone transformed into a mindless titan and eating the person carrying the shifter power.

Soooo, why didn't that happen when Eren got eaten way back in S1? Was there some sort of time limit established or something? Seems like, following show logic, the attack titan's power should've transferred to whoever was in that titan that ate him.

I knew the damned kid should've stayed dead from the start.

Meh. A bit of plot convenience that he was swallowed whole or whatever. How lucky, to get eaten by the one titan that doesn't chew its food.

Additional point that bugs me is, well, the entire plot of the show. I might be misinterpreting something here, cuz, things got needlessly complicated at this point, but as far as I could understand events seem to be something like: The mainland has managed to gain control of and indoctrinate some of these people with the shifter powers. Colossal, Armored, Beast, and whatever the lady from S1 was, Annie? Idk. Whatever. Seems like we're meant to conclude that they've been sent from the mainland to infiltrate and undermine the city, bring down the defenses, and let the waves of mindless titans flush everyone out so the mainland can start drilling or w/e. Cue ep 1.

My question is: Why? Why go to all that trouble to complicate shit? First of all, mainland has actual fucking airships. Set up a base on the edge of the island or something, load those suckers up, and start bombing the shit out of everyone. What are they gonna do about it? But, more importantly, ignoring that, they've already got spies infiltrating the city, how hard is it to gather intel and discover the leader wiped everyone's memory years ago, doesn't want to fight, and basically nobody knows the actual situation anymore. Seems like the mainland is going to all this trouble because they still believe that if they just attacked outright, the island would retaliate in all their titan-y fury. But, unless there's some other layer to this, kinda seems like that no longer holds true, and the mainland could just roll an army through and be done with it. Kinda not sure why they couldn't have done that regardless at this point. Surely they've got the superior technological advantage. An army of titans vs a battery of mortars, dropping bombs, firearms, navy, etc.

Now all they need to do is kill Mikasa, have her get eaten by a third Titan, and then they'll all be Titans.

Well basically the entire plot is .....

Marley wants their resources. All this for fossil fuels lawl.

But supposedly if they are attacked millions of titans will come and and destroy everything. Which is just a bluff.

So they invented this massively convoluted scheme of infiltrating the city and having shifters bash down the wall and letting titans just kind of gradually kill everyone. Which they think won't trigger the titan army... for reasons.

But why knock down one wall... and not the others? They could have just poked holes in all the walls and then let the titans do their thing and this would have been done in a year or two.

And apparently "if you're wondering why the mindless titan didn't inherit the powers of the Attack Titan, it's because Eren was swallowed whole. For titan powers to be transferred via ingestion, the Shifter's spinal fluid has to be digested by the hostile mindless titan. Since Eren body was intact during the time of ingestion, no powers were transferred."

You mean NEARLY kill Mikasa, inject her with Titan serum, have her eat Annie or one of the other 7 of the Nine, and then they'll all be Titans? Ah, but Mikasa is an Ackerman, and there is some sort of significance to that family name of which the surface has just been scratched. It's almost like SHE may have royal blood needed to trigger Eren's Coordinate power too?

I'm sure it will be blown wide open in the Final Season, which starts next fall!

Course they'd need to get their hands on more titan serum, which sound impossible at the moment.

The sequence where they reach the mini wall and dock and then first see the sea for the first time was so good. Love how they gave it time to breathe too with them just standing there in a bit of awe, so we got to see the shocked look on everyone aside from Eren, the only one who'd directly seen it before through those memories.

Also, Jean tasting it then yelling after finding out it's salty along with Sasha getting it in her eyes since her and Connie were splashing each other, lmao.

Really good earned calm before the next storm season finale.

Good question...I suppose it might have something to do with the spinal fluid? Eren's was never breached.

Exactly right.

Since Eren threw himself into the mouth of that Titan in order to pull Armin out, his main body was already pretty far down into the mouth, too far to get bit into by the Titan. So when the Titan bit down on him only his arm that was still reaching out was in between the teeth and got severed. And then he got swallowed whole while still alive. So he never got and absorbed his spinal fluid.

Right. Now if he had gone into shock from losing his arm, he would have been dissolved in the Titan's stomach, and then we would have had "Attack Santa Titan" in an alternate universe!

Kind of amazing that there turned out not to be THAT many free-walking Titans, but man, are there a BUNCH of Titans inside those walls. I think the secret to turning them human again and saving the Eldians of Paradis may be in Marley somewhere!

Thought it was sorta implied that the big crusher thing crushed them all.

He means the Titans that BECAME the wall. The bluff is that all those titans will somehow be released if they get attacked, but I kinda doubt they can change back.

You're right. It was indeed mentioned that that thing went into overdrive soon after the scouting expedition to Shiganshina.

But as for the Titans inside the walls, they're not bothering anything as long as they're not exposed to sunlight.

BTW, Eren now has 3 Titan powers: Attack (his first); Hardening (acquired in 1st half Season 3); and Coordinate. The other 6 are apparently Agile/Female (Annie), Beast (Zeke), Armored (Reiner), Colossal (Armin), Jaw (Ymir), and maybe one other we haven't seen yet?
