MasqueradeOverture
I doubt the shows that are already on the air (Super, AOT, I hope not but probably Black Clover) are affected.

Top Gun
Seriously. I doubt Hulu gives two shits about whatever winds up on linear TV.
Sketch
As it stands, the only FUNimation dubs that have aired on Toonami in a timely manner in the past three years have been Attack on Titan, Dragon Ball Super, Black Clover, Dimension W and I suppose you could say Pop Team Epic but it was more than a season behind still. None of their other big shows with fast dubs managed to air on Toonami for whatever reason so really this doesn't change much of anything. It might be a potential additional road block for some upcoming anime but it likely will not affect Toonami's ability to air shows from FUNimation's backlog. It seems like Toonami had to wait until Hulu's exclusivity window with Tokyo Ghoul and My Hero Academia dubs came to an end before they were able to get those series and I expect future FUNimation series that catch Hulu's eye will have an exclusivity window but not be locked down forever. Where this can be problematic for Toonami is Hulu is a much wider used service than FUNimation's own service so if Hulu gets a show and it streams for a year or so you can bet a lot more people will watch it there than they would have if it was just on FUNimation's service. By now it should be evident that airing popular shows after Hulu or another big streaming venue has had them for a year or so isn't the best use of Toonami's budget. They should give up on getting shows that have been heavily exposed and dig deeper for shows that aren't as well known. So yeah, this will potentially make more shows less worthwhile for Toonami to go after but 20 or so shows a year isn't all that many when you consider around 40 anime air every season in Japan. Maybe if they can't get the biggest titles due to this along with some shows going to Amazon and Netflix then focus more on building audiences for lesser known titles that might new viewers and interest the long-standing ones. Pretty sure that's better than a line-up that mostly screams "seen it already". At any rate the Hulu deal won't keep Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Dragon Ball Super and Black Clover off of Toonami. I fully expect any additional seasons to end up on Toonami eventually.
Jman
Now all I need is for Hulu to suggest SSSS Gridman after Mr. Robot or something. This is just another front in the content wars. Luckily Toonami has Crunchyroll in their corner.
OwlChemist81
In case anyone cares, here's the ANN version: https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2018-12-04/funimation-hulu-sign-first-look-streaming-deal-for-new-anime/.140359 Attack on Titan has been mentioned in some articles but I'd say it's an exception, along with Dragon Ball franchise shows and Black Clover. Hulu issues are probably keeping Tokyo Ghoul: RE off Toonami, and well, there goes any thoughts of an (unannounced) MHA Season 4 simuldub on Toonami, though they might have one-upped Hulu on that one. And of course there's still the off-chance we get Goblin Slayer and/or SSSS.Gridman early next year to replace Mob Psycho 100 and/or MegaloBox. That alliance with Crunchyroll means more Black Clover, of course. I'd expect there to be a long-form promo for Black Clover season 2, and damn, that show needs TOPICALS!
The1gairon
Note the article says SOME of Funimation's titles will be exclusively run on Hulu, not all of them. I really hate it when someone jumps the gun and says Toonami's dead. Edited December 5, 2018 by elfie 2 1

In other words, Hulu might not be a traditional linear broadcast network, but they can still get broadcast rights to prevent anyone else from airing shows. Demarco mentioned once that if Netflix finds out Toonami wants a show, they would offer double what Toonami is and lock it down. I'd say he needs to play his cards closer to vest. Not that we're apparently missing much, in that particular case, by most accounts, but still. Hulu issues are probably keeping Tokyo Ghoul: RE off Toonami, and well, there goes any thoughts of an (unannounced) MHA Season 4 simuldub on Toonami, though they might have one-upped Hulu on that one. Oh, nooo... In the end, all this means is another excuse for Demarco to make for his continued failure to get top tier in-demand anime on the block in a timely fashion. So, expect more new hit shows getting here late, if at all. Better step it up, Demarco. Or god forbid, as Sketchor alluded to, Toonami actually be a hit maker again, draw new fans to lesser known shows, if they even still have that capacity in the modern landscape. I personally believe there's still a place for linear TV, provided the cable companies change their business models by lowering prices and offering channels a la cart, before they Blockbuster themselves and Demarco has to commit seppuku. One might be much more likely to check out a show they wouldn't otherwise if they stumble upon it and watch a few minutes on TV, than they would if they see the show's title card and synopsis on a streaming service and scrolls past thinking to themselves, "well I'm not gonna' watch that." This also means I may have to change my viewing habits. I typically don't watch that much anime separate from Toonami or TV, partly because of time and all the other stuff I have occupying it, other various hobbies, interests, tons of shows and games I need to catch up on, and the appeal of watching the show together with everyone here. I've noticed that shows that are streaming don't seem to get much discussion in the Anime section, and I don't care for the impermanence, chaos, and disorganization of things like Reddit, Facebook, or Twitter to discuss shows, and I don't feel like joining some other forum, either. Besides, increase the population of an online community and you typically increase the number of idiots, and nowhere is this more evident than social media or huge forums (if the latter even still exist.) Annoying. Guess I'll have to buckle down and seriously chip away at more of my backlogs, or I'll be missing out on a lot of shows, since we can no longer depend on Toonami to get them any more. Still doesn't change the fact that I'm not just going to drop shows I am currently watching as they premiere, play less games, or spend less times on my other hobbies just to watch more anime because Demarco can't get the job done anymore.
