My Hero Academia Marathon on September 1st!

But... that time is enough to air only twelve episodes. So they're either expanding to 4:30 just for the night (more likely, IMO) or maybe airing fewer commercials so they can fit an extra episode into a shorter amount of time.

Why does every single announcement Toonami makes, no matter how simple it should be, manage to invite pointless speculation? As I've said before, it's driving me mad.

Yeah unless theeeeeeeeeeeeeeey expand the block to 6.5 hours for one night. If it were totally commercial-free, they would likely include that detail in the marketing.

At least they aren't Disney, where they don't even tell you the time a show airs! They just say "coming today"!  TELL ME THE TIME, SO I CAN PLAN!!

Wow, nice! Hope it does well! As for the idea that it would feature NO commercials, well that's just not true. But fewer commercials and bizarre runtimes, yep.

All of those episodes combined have a runtime of about 22x13=286 minutes. The time period is 30x12=360 minutes, which still leaves almost an hour and a quarter total for commercials.

All righty then. This is a good substitute for the "Hero Notebook" recap episode, even if this season could benefit from being massively compressed.

Also, with the schedule being clear, this is now confirmed to be the longest marathon in Toonami history (in terms of original content), as well as the second schedule overall since early 2015 to run for 6.5 hours. I dare you to stay up and watch it live to the end.

How was it cut last time?

Probably not though, since last time it was at 11:30, and this time it'll be at 10 PM!

"shit" changed to "crap"

FUNi did it themselves without adult swim requesting it. wouldn't be a problem at 8 pm.

... I remember skipping both the sub and dub of the recap episode so it took me a hot minute to figure out what you're talking about. Maybe this IS their proof that they'll skip it, but we know Toonami rarely skips episodes of any show except for Clone Wars.

In this case, it's not "skipped" so much as that the TV license probably doesn't include it. There are probably other such examples for Toonami shows.

This is a good use of a marathon night. I kinda wish they went ahead and ran 10pm-6am so they could squeeze in 14, 15 and 16 from season 2. That would get people entirely caught up for the next week. All 13 episodes of season 1 should more than suffice to pick up some new viewers though.

Alternatively, it would have been good to do all 12 episodes of Attack on Titan season 2 if they could rerun them but MHA is gonna lead the block so it makes more sense to marathon the first season of it.

Definitely glad it's not just a marathon of FLCL Progressive. That probably would have done about as bad or worse than the FLCL OVA marathon. They can save that for another time when it's not so fresh in people's minds. This marathon of MHA might actually do decently.

The episode Toonami aired Saturday had a ton of recap!  And what wasn't recap, not a lot happened.  Not a good sign.  The end to the good pacing?

Not at all. The pacing of season 2 is great. Really only that first episode drags.

September 1st?  Why?  What holiday is that?  Labor Day.  Forget about that one.  But, it's on Monday!  GOD DAMN FUCKING MARATHOOOOONNNNS!

It’s Labor Day weekend, a big traveling holiday. I for one have a destination wedding to attend. I had an out of town wedding to go to that weekend in 2016 as well. I assure you I don’t attend weddings often it’s just one of those weekends that people plan big events on.

It's because there was a 10 month gap between the end of the first season and beginning of the second in Japan. They did air a recap episode over there, but they still decided to cover their bases for the people who either missed it or were possibly tuning in for the first time (since I feel like it got a big bump in popularity after the first season.) "Not a lot happened" i.e. they set up the basis of the next arc. The pacing continues throughout the second and third seasons to be just as excellent as the first.

Not only that but the new season aired on ANOTHER CHANNEL in ANOTHER TIMESLOT, so they had even more new audiences than the previous season had.

I thought you were referring to Attack on Titan at first. That show has actually moved to NHK (basically, public television for Japan) for Season 3, although it airs at about the same time. I guess it didn't have any recapping for its premiere, too.

Fair enough.  I'll have to find something else to do.  Got some games to play and a DVR backlog.  Definitely these days we have the opposite problem of "I'm bored" with too much entertainment to keep up with and having to be selective.  That's the thing about Toonami, though.  It comes on live TV so it kind of makes me watch it right away.  Plus I'm so used to watching it on Saturday's for years.  There has been the odd occasion where I had to watch it recorded, though!  Still the week feels a little empty without Toonami.

I suppose that explains that and somewhat justifies it.  Still they squandered two episodes of precious budget and airtime.  Just glad Toonami didn't air the full recap episode.  How many episodes are in this season?

Wait, so you're telling me AOT Season 3 is airing on Japan's PBS!?

So this is seriously like if a show was on corporate TV for its first 2 seasons, then moved to a government-sponsored channel!?

Then again, our PBS shows CAN be big; there WAS Downton Abbey...

You beat me to it.  Can you imagine Attack on Titan airing on PBS? :D

Yeah, PBS airs some fictional/scripted content, but it mostly seems to be stuff like Downton Abbey, I guess because it's more sophisticated and intellectual, higher quality, you're enriched by watching it.  Loved Keeping up Appearances back in the day. :D But Attack on Titan? :D

I actually could see PBS airing anime late at night. They aired unedited Monty Python back in the day alongside Doctor Who, Blake's 7, Space Cops [Space Cops kinda sucked... :D ] , and Red Dwarf along with the occasional sci-fi soap opera stuff [anyone remember 'Tripod' ? ] . In a time before cable and finding personal niche entertainments online, PBS was the place to go to get your nerd on. PBS is probably more responsible for the popularity of some series than anything else since they were often the first to expose people to certain shows and now those people are exposing their kids and grandkids to the same shows. :D

And I was wondering which one was getting the marathon this year. I'm glad it's one that I haven't missed any episodes of since I have no clue when I'll get back to the hotel. I do look forward to catching it at whatever point it's at though.

Seriously though lol PBS is what soccer moms make their kids watch before they eat a customary family dinner together and the kids honor their 8pm bedtime.

No they don't. PBS it too radical for them. You think they want their kids to see NOVA? They might learn science and everyone knows that's the devil's medicine.

Haha come on now they're not psychotic religious zealots like Carrie's mother.

More like...

Johnny (basically naraku360) says, "Gosh darnit, mom, why can't I play T-rated games? I'm 22 years old!"

Soccer mom replies, "You watch your language, mister! You're grounded for a week!"

Johnny sulks, "Awww shucks! ☹"
