my urge to get a cat has been rising for the past few months

My cats both have all their claws and two of my mom's do. No furniture has been damaged by any of the cats. Cats can be trained. But really we didn't even have to train ours not to scratch furniture.

The only thing u have to watch for is that cats do have a "preference" for how to scratch. When we got Gordon he would scratch the carpet even though we have several vertical scratching posts. We bought some flat floor scratching posts and now he only scratches those. Just put catnip and treats on the scratching posts and make a loud sound when u catch them scratching something they shouldn't.

i've wanted one for years but i didn't want to have it possibly ruin my *at the time* new furniture. now that those are getting a bit older i've been catching myself browsing the local SPCA site having to remind myself BAD NARAKU NO CATS

My cat doesn’t scratch my shit anymore...hence the fancy new couch

i was thinking of adopting maybe a 1 or 2 year old cat, and not a kitten, sort of for that reason

Well don't get a kitten because they will always be adopted... The older kitties need a lot of help finding home. I have always been partial to the polydactyl cats... So pretty

She's beautiful!

I would name her "snekt" because she looks like a danger noodle

I'm talking to the girl about it and told her it was probably a really bad idea for me to get one. her response was (not-verbatim) "get one, jackass" god i love her

yeah, not with another cat it wouldn't. actually it might be a good idea for me to at least wait after my trip. seeing as i don't know anyone who could take care of it for that long

I got a rescue cat who is currently enjoying life at the age of 10 and still has a spring in his step.

He was two years old by the time I had him. I like adult cats more than kittens, though, so that is a factor I considered.
