CountFrylock
meanwhile cartoon network premieres a new lego superheroes movie and a new teen titans go special on memorial day... why is it that cartoon network doesn't give a crap about holidays and still airs new content on them while toonami is terrified to the point they need to randomly poop out whatever they can for a marathon? and cartoon network's crap airs when people's holiday activities were be going on while toonami's are when they've been wrapped up
OwlChemist81
It isn't just Toonami. Oddly enough AMC is actually putting Fear The Walking Dead and Into The Badlands on break tomorrow night! But even weirder, [as] is NOT! There will be new Robot Chicken and Joe Pera tomorrow. But then again, Joe Pera is really just summer throwaway filler so it doesn't matter. And not like that Chicken won't rerun. Most Toonami shows don't rerun at all!
CountFrylock
why is it so inconsistent? you can't have everyone flip flopping on if people watch tv then or not all the time it gets confusing this network says its okay but this one says it isn't and so on and so forth
Daos
Like I said before... Kai marathons did better on holidays than Toonami's regular schedule on non holidays. There's no reason to pretend like any holiday except Xmas is worth sidelining your shows for.

Blatch
Maybe all the holiday marathons are just virtue signaling. It's like DeMarco doesn't want us to take these stupid Korean cartoons too seriously.
EmpressAngel
I can kinda see the logic behind it if I really think about it. If it's a three day weekend, people are probably going out Saturday, doing whatever plans they have that night and through Sunday, and then on Monday getting ready to go back to the normal week. So I guess they figure Saturday is gonna be empty, but by Monday evening most people's plans are over and they're more willing to sit inside and watch TV by then? No clue how accurate that actually is, but I'd guess that's the way they justify it.
CountFrylock
this logic doesn't keep streaming services off their asses....it's 2018 and if a marathon's going on people will just stream something else and if marathons happen too frequently they'll just do more streaming Edited May 28, 2018 by CountFrylock

An adult-targeted network usually doesn't premiere things on holiday weekends when adults are expected to be not home and not available to watch the tv. It hasn't gotten to be more than that and it most likely never will. That means 45-46 weeks of the year there's a regular schedule. Considering Toonami runs more than 6 network premieres a week at this point, it's pretty reasonable for them to take 6-7 weeks off a year as not to waste those premieres on nights when less people are expected to be watching. This is the first marathon they've done this year, aka the first since December. I realize there are going to be 5 or 6 more this year but this isn't the week to start complaining about an excess of marathons. Save that for the 4th quarter of the year when most of them happen. They're not going to happen more frequently and they probably won't cause more people to leave in favor of streaming. At the end of the day if people want to see dubbed Hunter x Hunter or JoJo or Dragon Ball Super or they want to see the other dubs and not pay for more than one streaming service then they'll watch Toonami or pirate stuff after it airs on Toonami. People will have Monday off but work on Tuesday so they won't go out drinking Monday night, they'd do that on Friday, Saturday and maybe Sunday. If they went out of town they'd leave Friday and come back by Sunday or Monday night. Sports events are their own beast. Prime Time Monday so it's weird to go all in on airing new stuff on the exact day but saturday or sunday that's no good(unless your adultswim and just air your comedy stuff anyways)
Blatch
Here's how I see this playing out: Viewer: "Aww, why do not get the regular shows this week? I'm disappointed." DeMarco: "This is like a gift to you. Don't you understand that you don't have to watch the shows every week?" Viewer: "But, that's what I want..." DeMarco: "You don't understand. Honestly, you're too obsessed with Toonami. Please sto-..." Viewer: "BUT I REALLY WANT MY ANIME. GAAAAAAH..." DeMarco: "No. Screw you, asshole. You will do something else productive instead of watching your anime, and you will like it." Viewer: "Uh... okay, I guess."

Top Gun
Do people actually want to be locked into watching 52 weeks straight of block premieres, without any sort of breather? Is that really it? Because that sounds like a living hell to me.

Top Gun
Not at all. Being presented with entire seasons of stuff piled up all at once is even more of a turn-off for me. The reason why I still enjoy watching the block and linear TV in general is that the once-a-week structure provides natural pacing. So long as I'm watching at least one episode per week, even if those episodes are piled up on my DVR, I know I'm at least keeping pace and not "falling behind" (and yes I realize that means nothing in the practical sense given that most of these shows have already finished, but it does the job mentally). (Have I mentioned how much I fucking hate the very concept of binging?)

Sketch
I have to be very enthralled with a show to watch more than a few episodes at a time. I enjoy a binging session sometimes but I don’t like doing them often. I feel like I’m spending too much time on one show that day. Back when TFP was weekly I loved having a week off. The only beef I have with marathons is there’s so many in the last quarter that it makes starting a new show problematic. One week off every 3-6 months is fine. One week off every month for four months is annoying but that’s the nature of our holidays. I think it’s irresponsible to run 7 premieres on a holiday weekend but they could probably run 2-3 before a marathon. That said the ratings are getting so low that they probably don’t need to avoid airing premieres on most holiday weekends (avoid the last two weeks of the year for sure). There’s probably 6-7 weeks any given year that does as bad or worse than a marathon week. That said, if an off week 6-7 weeks in a year legitimately angers you, it’s time to reassess your priorities. Toonami doesn’t have to be your only source of anime if it even is.

We absolutely don't need one, at least with the changing circumstances. At the same time, I'm also a little surprised that Toonami has never done an Easter marathon. It's like Thanksgiving in that some people travel very far to meet up with their families. I feel like it wouldn't be a bad idea to do that if only so there can be a marathon in the first five months of the year. Also, they don't need to do a 4th of July marathon if the actual date falls in the middle of the week. But we'll see how they handle that a little while from now...

That would just be lame. I admittedly like having a block of premiers to watch on Saturday mornings. Makes me nostalgic.

korosu
july 7th is closer to july 4th. but if they're restarting kai i doubt episode 1 would run again during a marathon the following week.
