taking a break from drinking

i quit for about 8 months two years ago just to kind of get myself under control.

feel it may be time to take another one. shorter, maybe a month or two. i just feel like i'm starting to use it as a crutch again.

i've also noticed i have a hard time sleeping without alcohol in my system.

any advice from those who've done it to help get through that first week?

i have binges with alcohol but i dont have alcoholism.

if you can chug-a-lug tequila straight in big gulps until youre too dizzy to stand more than four or five times a week its time to slow down.

if you like vodka enough to get through the bottle without slowing down, and end up getting another bottle

as soon as the store opens, its time to slow down.

if you think you can function on a full bottle of rum or whiskey, like youre completely in  control, its time to slow down.

but ive never craved it for more than a week or two consecutively.

Good for you.

I'm at like seven or eight months myself. Haven't really been keeping track.

Sometimes you just gotta dry out for awhile.

yeah get sleeping aids/pills. Ambien would be a good pharma sleep pill.

yeah.

sleeping is going to be tough for a few nights.

i usually go with a valerian root tea. something stronger might be in order this time, though.

I quit for almost a year, I think it was like 9-10 months, I found that not quantifying it in "how long" helped in keeping me sober because quantifying sobriety made me care about drinking booze

and then some things happened.  A combination of things that require a lot of explaining.  But I reached a place mentally.

I've managed to quit strong booze like liquor and wine, but i keep caving to beer despite my want to quit completely again.  Stress and things outside my control lead me back to the bottle, despite feeling awful after I overindulge.

The fact that you want to try quitting booze is a good sign, beyond that, I'm not sure what else to say, because I'm in a similar boat

I've been off the wagon for about a month now......But I've "quit" several times so it's not that difficult to get through the first week.....For me this is crunch time because I kinda miss just drinking until I pass out.  Problem is my body misses it, but my brain doesn't......Right now my brain is in control and my body is just cooperating.

i run into the thing where my brain says "yeah but fuck it"

like.  fairly often.  And infrequently enough and in binge amounts small enough where i don't think about it unless in certain situations

it's fucked up.

Guest The Hound

I feel everyone should be allowed to bad load during the weekend. Theres no shame in it. Humans have been consuming booze for... well... the moment some crazy fucking caveman decided to eat fermenting fruit.

yeah, i have the same dichotomy going on. i know it's bad for me and moreover that i'll feel better once i've quit for awhile. meanwhile, though, my body will continue to crave it. if i can get it weened off, i'll be fine.

at least until i slip up again and then i'll have the hangover from hell.

Sorry I don’t....you should quit for longer than a month if that’s what’s going on tho

and i might.

a month is just a reachable target so i don't psyche myself out.

I suppose...I think I drink maybe 5 times a year...I mean to drunk....but I’ll have a glass of wine with dinner here or there

it's different with everyone i guess. i envy people who can drink casually.

i've just never had a lot of control when it comes to booze.

other substances i've tried haven't been a problem, and i don't have any other compulsive tendencies.

maybe it's just chemical with me.
