Piss off your parents so much to the point they kick you out and you have to become independent . . . then again, you might just qualify for subsidized housing and you'd only ever have to work 25 hours a week doing something menial. Not bad, right?

In the end, you'll probably still do nothing as usual, so whatever.

A job will allow you to one day have a place of your very own with a spare room you can devote to pillows without fear.

Can I get  the housing and food stamps without working?

No. No we cannot. Some may provide inspiration or encouragement, but motivation must ultimately come from you.

For Our part, We offer this:
Employment is a means to an end. Sometimes, that end is itself merely means to another end, but It is not uncommon for people to draw purpose from the work they do. It provides a sense of contribution to the propped up notion of society, or a cursory opening to interaction with your surroundings, or at the very least, a distraction from the bleakness of everyday humdrum existence. Certainly, one need not obtain such things to trudge through life; without any, though, the inevitable release becomes all the more sweeter.

I don't get it.

Wait I thought pushing carts was contributing to society.

It's like a horse/water thing. Believe Us, if shaping the wills of others to that extent were within Our command,  you'd have an entirely different set of concerns with regards to an occupation.

Society is simply an aggregate. Any action taken amongst others contributes to it. Whether it is a positive or meaningful contribution depends on the specifics, and is often subjective.
