discolé monade Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 honestly. the anxiety/ptsd is why i got into crochet. not saying that's your gig. i also like needlepoint, and sewing. it's calming. (i have my oil pastels/charcoal/inks/pencils, but it's been a while because of the back log of orders.) and then the finished product is somehow satisfying.

fuggnificent Posted October 26, 2017 Author Posted October 26, 2017 Learn how to make one of these Bluetooth compatible. We have one of those sitting in our living room right now. Hasnt been opened in years.

If it's solid state, you might just be okay to plug it in and see whether it functions to its original standard. If it does, I can show you some parts you can buy very cheaply that would have it running on Bluetooth. If it's a vacuum tube model, it can still be converted, but it's going to very expensive to have it recapped. Never plug in a tube model that has been sitting around unused for several years. The caps could be bad and that means a fire hazard. Solid state models also have caps, but normally, they are of much better quality and designed to be resistant to heavy humidity and other situations that would rot the older caps.
PhilosipherStoned Posted October 26, 2017 Posted October 26, 2017 take up cooking as a hobby and try out a wide variety of things? That's something I'd like to do, but I'm too busy living alone to want yo try something extravagant.

Entertainment devices like this were usually called stereo consoles or Hi Fi consoles. Comparable ones can be found on eBay. To determine whether yours is tube or not, carefully open the back. If you see little glass things that resemble light bulbs, those are tubes. Pain the ass and really expensive to fix. If you don't see those, it may be solid state. That all works with transistors in place of the tubes. That was a state of the art feature back in the 60's and 70's and so many solid state models would have that phrase printed on the face plate near the control dials.

They chew on wires and gum up the contact points with their waste product. Probably better off selling it "as is" to a collector who knows restoration. Good news is, if you haven't seen any live bugs coming out of the unit in the past three or four years, you can at least assume that any colony inside is dead.
