mochi Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 everyone acted like it was the best thing ever when it came out but I haven't heard anything about it in a few years now Quote
Ric Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Didn't Funimation drop it like a sack of potatoes since it sold like shit? Quote
mochi Posted October 11, 2017 Author Posted October 11, 2017 Didn't Funimation drop it like a sack of potatoes since it sold like shit? not sure also apparently the manga got cancelled last year not surprising, I always disliked how it looked and didn't see what was so great about fusing Dragonball and Chowder into one show Quote
Ric Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 Yeah it looked dumb. Although my tolerance/patience for shonen action shows is very low right now. Quote
naraku360 Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 It was dumb. I dropped it without finishing the first episode. Quote
DragonSinger Posted October 11, 2017 Posted October 11, 2017 It's a show that I plan on trying when I'm super bored and ain't got shit to do. Quote
Chapinator_X Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I laughed so hard when it took a shit. Shounen Jump kept trying to pop up as the potential Bleach killer and was its unofficial replacement in the Big Three while Bleach was still running, and had been given crossovers with One Piece and DBZ as if it'll be the biggest franchise known to man... And then it all went downhill from there. Quote
CaptainStarwind Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 I didn't really find the premise of it all that interesting so I never watched or read it. Seems like I made the correct call. Quote

Seems like I made the correct call. the Premise was always dumb to me too it was basically "Genetic Shone Martial arts anime.....BUT WITH FOOD!" as if there being food would make the same repeatitive shonen formula any better Quote
Top Gun Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 As a point of comparison, the entire premise of Toriko was a simple career choice by a single character in Hunter x Hunter. And oh lord, those One Piece and DBZ crossovers were painful. The OP/DBZ one might have been decently fun if Toriko hadn't been awkwardly inserted in there like the world's biggest third wheel. Quote
The1gairon Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 Didn't Funimation drop it like a sack of potatoes since it sold like shit? Yes. The release of the first season wasn't selling well and they couldn't afford to get the next season. Quote

mochi Posted October 12, 2017 Author Posted October 12, 2017 A-hem. Shokugeki no Soma is more like than Chowder Quote
Blatch Posted October 12, 2017 Posted October 12, 2017 That was probably the point. Food Wars did the "shonen anime with food" thing so much better, and without having to shoehorn a particular genre into it. Also, it made me giggle when I remembered people wanted this on Toonami at one point. Quote
3ngag3 Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 It didn't help that the anime tried to shoehorn in a terrible original character and tone down the violence that the manga showed. Watch the OVA of the first episode. It's superior to the garbage Toei put out. Quote

PokeNirvash Posted October 15, 2017 Posted October 15, 2017 Remember that one Shounen Jump cover that implied Toriko dethroned Bleach in the Big 3? Gintoki's face is objectively the best part of that cover. Quote

Chapinator_X Posted October 16, 2017 Posted October 16, 2017 Back when that cover came out, everyone was either focused on how they tried to boot Bleach out of the Big Three to make way for Toriko or happened to notice Gintoki in the background looking completely off. The random Sket Dance guy tried to match him on the goofy face competition, but Gintoki becoming an old fat guy was when you knew the cover completely went to hell. Quote
