Yes, and when it happens to anything besides verbs, it's called inflection.

futa 蓋 does also mean lid. Normally, when encounter futa, it will be written as futatsu 二つ See? 二 = ni, 二つ = ふたつ

One final note, to keep on topic: Conjugation only refers to inflection of verbs. Edit: Looks like I lied.

"Ni" is the more common way to say two. There's also futatsu. When you count certain objects, you have to say futatsu. For example, "Oppai ga futatsu arimasu." (There are two tits.)
