By the ruling class, I obviously meant people with loads of money and the institutions they really on for said money to have any sort of value. Most STEM majors would also be part of the movement, as they're basically proletariat too. What I think will happen is these rich people, not based on their talent but merely their birthright, will be the ones who can evolve with machines while the rest of us are left to fend for themselves. Classic cyberpunk scenario. I don't believe in a hostile takeover of synthetics either.
Think, humans and chimps evolved separately, and now humans are a huge threat to just about all other species of animals. It's not because we necessarily want to rule over all other animals; it's just the way our lifestyles are with nature. That, I believe, will be the same case for humans who will be left behind with our primitive ways of thinking under humans "allowed" to evolve with machines; they will be a threat to our current ways of life, but they don't necessarily mean us harm.
Of course, I don't believe this wholeheartedly, as there are many other possibilities.
