Well the pacing is certainly more brisk, and in the translation from cartoon to live action, there’s a lot of subtle adjustments to personalities. I dare say someone who might have found toon Luffy a bit too much would appreciate the tweaks.

It’s official - Of all the anime to get a big budget adaptation and be GOOD, One Piece is the last one I would have chosen. I thought this was a joke when it was first announced. Now we have the Hollywood Reporter and USA Today declaring it the next Stranger Things. This also for better or for worse makes me wonder if the anime will keep airing on Toonami.

Toonami is sort of indicative of the marketplace, and right now the marketplace is “we’re streaming all this”. The shows we are getting are shows with contracts from before the buyout and leftover kids stuff that they didn’t want to interrupt their regular schedule for. Also, I am seriously wondering if One Piece is going to be sticking around much longer.

It bears repeating that the few negative reviews are people mad that it’s too faithful to the original.

103 hours later I finally finished Persona 4 Golden. And many a cult fan base was born. Golden I feel insists Marie is the canon love interest (as opposed to Golden the Animation where she IS the canon love interest without any doubt). I can see how that annoys some people, but saving the girl and winning her love is always a winning formula in my book.

This show is immensely frustrating. The version of Clark? One of the best ongoing versions of him since the DCAU. Everything with Clark/Superman they get right, that he is this guy with a lot of power but decides that he’s not God, he’s not Jesus, he’s your neighbor with the tools. “I’m here. How can I help?” So why is everything around Kansas’s favorite fictional son so obnoxious? Lois is not likable, the villains are lame, the art style is bland and boring, and for all the talk of this being an anime Superman, it’s anime through the lens of people who consider a lot of anime “problematic.” And the Kryptonians are suddenly dollar store Viltrumites? You’re ripping off the aliens who ripped off the Saiyans who themselves were Kryptonians! Also Kaiju Parasite was done better in Man of Tomorrow. At least we didn’t see the MAWS version of Lobo.
