  1. Hell's Paradise: Jigokuraku 1-2. Been a while since a good old fashioned supernatural feudal era story in the vein of Ninja Scroll.
  2. “We have the rights to the Akira reboot. Fuck you Waititi!” /s
  3. Hunger - 7.5/10 Apparently “kitchen horror” is now a genre, as this Thai take on haute cuisine and the people paying for it being vapid idiots is both more optimistic and more cynical than The Menu. The Menu is about a guy losing his passion and taking it out on morons, while Hunger is about people replacing their passion with elitism and cynicism, but at the same time saying the passion is worth fighting for. It’s a more “conventional” film than The Menu. Mario - 6.5/10, 7.5/10 if you see it in a fancy 4DX. A perfectly serviceable but safe film that needed some more time to breathe and a bit more elaboration, but is never boring. Yes, add a point if you watch it in the fancy theater with the moving seats because it turns a regular film into an amusement park ride of sorts and really contributes to the visual spectacle that the film wants to be.
  4. Please say you’re referring to Man of Tomorrow and not RWBY.
  5. LOOK AT IT. LOOK AT IT AND LAUGH. The only way to justify a Part II is if the RWBY girls somehow end up in the DC universe and look like they're animated in the way the more recent DC movies were. Or at the very least, Super Sons.
  6. Funny enough, most of the big gets for the next few months are going to be Western because of Crunchyroll keeping stuff for itself and Hulu, and Hulu keeping Bleach. Unicorn: Warriors Eternal and My Adventures with Superman may be kids show sent to Toonami because action cartoons don’t work on CN proper, and arguably the biggest possible get in the next 12 months would be Creature Commandos. So if you feel like Toonami needs more Western stuff, wait a bit, because they don’t have a choice.
  7. Close. It’s a random rumor monger who posts unverified rumors for engagement and clout. He got caught with his hand in the cookie jar numerous times recently though, such as posting fake DC rumors James Gunn said were BS. That being said, GriftTube ran with the story and still reports it as fact, because it fits the narrative of filthy western activists ruining everything.
  8. RWBY’s continued existence is a blight on animation as a whole.
  9. “Cowa-Bummer Shinji!”
  10. I just know we’ll never have the sheer whiplash kids did when it debuted. Yes, it replaced the Japanese dub of the original Ninja Turtles cartoon.
  11. A new clip of this disasterpiece just hit and yes, that’s the Light from Netflix Death Note as Bruce Wayne. I’m convinced at this point RWBY is an active shitpost whose current writers actively conspire to make it look and sound worse lest they be judged as an actual show and look like the dumpster fire they are.
  12. We’re getting it later this year. It’s confirmed as a direct follow up to Season 7.
  13. And international productions. https://www.yahoo.com/entertainment/why-netflix-investing-heavily-foreign-225753750.html This explains Toho produced Yu Yu Hakusho.
  14. https://deadline.com/2023/04/hollywood-strike-writer-vote-overwhelmingly-to-authorize-strike-1235328438/ Buckle up. This is going to get bumpy for a lot of entertainment.
  15. Not when the guy was lying his ass off over the Detective Pikachu sequel, the release date for a Rise of the Beasts trailer, and other botched scoops. But that reaffirms my earlier point. There’s no winning because everyone wants to be the one to point and go “Ha! Ha!” even when the source is completely disingenuous.
  16. It’s more frustration with anyone being able to mine statements for fun and profit. Not to mention that even when semi-official sources push back, it’s still being seen as gospel. Also and this may straight up be hopeless optimism, but after Alice in Borderland and the Kenshin films, I was hoping that the adaptation curse of sorts could be bypassed and that shitty Bebop cringefest with the self declared PC censor was the end of people missing the point. Optimism can be hard.
  17. 6.5-7 sounds about right. I would up it to 7.5 if you see it in the 4DX theater with the moving seats and mist in your face because it really does give that feeling of being in a video game world by upping the spectacle of the experienced which is an experience you just can’t duplicate at home. Granted the ONLY reason I paid the surcharge for 4DX (I have a monthly Regal subscription) was because the film was sold out damn near everywhere else, but it made the film way more fun, so fair play.
  18. As for this arc, it’s clear that they’re hurrying towards the final arc, which is admittedly one of the issues with a tight serialized story vs an ongoing one. Bad publicity on a longer story would have had Deku out on his own longer and presumably an online Jameson slandering the terror hero Black Whip as… Here the cast decides that’s BS and deals with the issue immediately and the mother embracing the little guy is surprisingly heartwarming. I’m admittedly not a fan of “we are the greatest hero” because they pulled a similar line in The Flash when that show plummeted in quality. Despite his arc being closer to Superman’s as being this iconic symbol, Deku’s personality, power-set, and even publicity echo Spider-Man and I’ll always wonder if it feels like the author has to pull himself back from making the Spidey parallels too obvious.
  19. Anyway the new film is fine. It’s the film that I think people were expecting in 93 before it was turned into an LSD user’s attempt to ape Tim Burton’s Batman with the wrong franchise. The spectacle of the scenes is tons of fun and if you see it in one of those fancy pants Regal theaters with the moving seats and mist in your face, it really ramps up the spectacle of the action scenes. The characters are likable enough but the plot does absolutely no breathing and it can make a viewer feel rushed. Also the voice cast does a mostly good job, except Seth Rogen who’s not doing a voice, but I think that’s the joke. (That and Cranky Kong who sounds like they wanted to get Mel Brooks but the dude is 96). Jack Black is a great Bowser and “Peaches” is a Tenacious D song through and through. Pratt is fine, especially since it’s obvious he’s playing a Brooklynite.
  20. I try to be nice, I honestly do but there was only one way this was going to end. Keep in mind the source is apparently EXTREMELY questionable but given that this was a bad idea from the word “Go!” it’s being taken as gospel. Edit - Fans pushing back against the leak -
  21. Knicks won an away playoff game for the first time since Ewing was playing.
  22. That one is headed to Max because it’s directly in continuity with the reboot. https://thedirect.com/article/james-gunn-dcu-project-release-date
  23. In non Silver Age silliness thoughts, I’m wondering if Toonami airing this means they have a shot at airing Creature Commandos next year. Commandos is a James Gunn pet project that’s fully canon with his reboot so it would definitely get eyeballs.
