  1. John Oliver did a piece on Argentinian elections, and apparently supporters of the anarcho-capitalist were wearing Chainsaw Man costumes to symbolize taking a chainsaw to the government spending. Should I be relieved Oliver doesn’t know what CM is? Of course if it ends up on Netflix he will, but for now, slight relief.
  2. My main concern is if people will double dip. The show is popular. It aired on Netflix and beat the brakes off a ton of their originals, (Fuck you Nocturne!) but Mugen Train is almost four years old. If people come back to Toonami for seconds, great, but I wonder if more people will just watch on Netflix.
  3. Or if you’re stuck with AT&T for your phone, you look up how to get free Max from them, apparently a leftover of the old ownership.
  4. This is a shocker given how Demon Slayer has been cleaning up everywhere it’s aired, and frankly, seemed outside Toonami’s budget.
  5. As long as it doesn’t affect premiere dates elsewhere, which is what I always worry about. This is a big deal, especially after Demon Slayer’s most recent season kicked Castlevania Nocturne’s ass despite having been on Crunchyroll for months.
  6. So uh, guess Uzumaki is going to miss yet another deadline. The fact that Zaslav hasn't sent it to tax write-off hell is honestly surprising at this point. Scavengers Reign is beautiful, so hope they make more stuff like that. Because as far as anime goes, best case scenario for the dub of Titan is January I'd say, Naruto is finishing up its tour of duty sometime next year and DeMarco already cut Boruto loose, with no take-backs thanks to Crunchyroll, and after that is One Piece, which next contract will likely see a substantial price increase thanks to the Netflix show. 2024 will be Crunch Time for Toonami in a big way, especially since as far as anime goes, Ninja Kamui and that Watanabe project are it. If the block still has value to air leftover Max stuff that couldn't air on Adult Swim proper, there's always Creature Commandos, more MAWS, and if all else truly fails, Velma. If DeMarco doesn't want his baby to be dragged through the mud as a mere encore block for random Y7 shows/Mindy Kailing vanity projects, then late 2024/early 2025 may be when it's time to gracefully wind down the block's operations.
  7. If it helps any, this is part of a general cleaning of a lot of venture capital funded projects that had little chance of attracting that big an audience.
  8. Pluto hit Netflix today and is apparently considered a triumph, but I still feel like if Mike Lazzo was around, he would have done his damndest to get it for Toonami. Edit - Odds are they wouldn’t have been able to afford Keith David for the dub.
  9. November 26 premiere with a next day Max airing.
  10. It’s official. https://www.digitalspy.com/tv/a45640426/pluto-netflix-anime-review/ Pluto is a triumph, an example of real anime from Netflix at its best.
  11. The early days. You can't really do this anymore when other than Aqua Teen, most of the productions are more complicated than "use recycled animation clip and have the actors freestyle over it".
  12. Zom 100 2-4. It’s weird. I got back into this because of how utterly godawful the last few pseudo-anime Netflix have released were. Captain Laserhawk is everything wrong with ironic PC animation and Nocturne was the shits, but the actual from Japan anime they get is good stuff.
  13. https://variety.com/2023/digital/news/crunchyroll-amazon-prime-video-1235765305/ Amazon’s Prime Video app works as a hub for other apps as well. For instance, if you buy Paramount Plus through Amazon, to use an example, you can access both Prime Video and Paramount Plus content in the same app. Crunchyroll has joined a list of compatible apps including Max, Paramount Plus, and others.
  14. The wine website I go to puts the premium Napa Valley wine on sale once or twice a year, but it’s worth it when you’re drinking wine that’s $90-$100 a bottle for a lot less. I do sometimes worry they’ll get me with FOMO.
  15. Slow cooker lasagna and Caesar salad with a blended Napa Valley red wine.
  16. The film was split into two parts, and this may be the final RWBY related production ever unless someone reboots it a few decades down the line with actual animation. It wouldn’t even be worth covering if not for the Justice League.
  17. Wolf of Wall Street - 9.5/10. Lost in the hubbub of how serious and CINEMA Scorsese’s work compares to MCU drivel is just how utterly hilarious this movie is. If Goodfellas is a drama satire of the American dream, this the black comedy satire.
  18. I knew that…and yet I still lament that DeMarco couldn’t spend the holidays airing Gunbuster.
  19. UFC is in Saudi Arabia today because Arab money and that means day drinking! And watching the Buckeyes/Penn State game on another TV. I’m not shelling out $80 for a PPV. Rather go to the local watering hole and pay for food and some brews.
  20. You know, if Discotek stuff was an option, there’s a ton to dig through.
  21. A very fitting end to this franchise if you ask me. A failed resuscitation attempt by the real most popular character in RWBY - Batman.
  22. The New York Times review was absolutely glowing, loving the concept of humans dealing with being the invasive species in a truly alien world. Whether the audience is on board always remains a question mark.
  23. Leaked opening - New trailer -
