Aqua Teen is back for a new season of 5 episodes
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
That wasn’t the intention but I’m happy to roll with it, especially with the picture next to the quote. -
They’re not sending the cheap tanks either, they’re sending a battalion of Abrams along with all those European Leopard tanks, which are widely viewed as completely outclassing anything on either side right now. The noted engagements of Abrams vs Russian tanks occurred in both Iraq wars, and the Abrams wiped the floor with their Russian counterparts.

“Quick! We need to keep this fail boat afloat now that Roiland’s going to jail!”

Demon Slayer Entertainment District 1 Junji Ito Tales 1.

Watching TV last night, reading all the Roiland drama and realizing just how much this block relies on Rick and Morty to keep the lights on, I have a simple question. Was Demon Slayer not coming back the first sign of Toonami going downhill, or were their other symptoms? I feel like we missed something when it had all the momentum in the world, and that momentum boosted everyone else.

I think that it's telling that Adult Swim is trying to keep this going when the batting average for shows going when the original creator bounces is close to zero, especially when Roiland was involved in so much of the show. Remember House of Cards after Kevin Spacy was charged with all those sexual assault allegations? Or more recently, the trainwreck that is trying to continue The Witcher without Henry Cavil? Saying that it doesn't work is usually the kindest interpretation. But they have literally NOTHING else to work with. Family Guy is gone, Venture Brothers is gone (and even on its best days we got a few episodes every few years and they never pulled down ratings like FG), the anime lineup's been close to barren ever since Sony deliberately withheld Demon Slayer, DC cartoons are no longer a feasible option and with Zaslav slashing animation left and right, the block is one step removed from having to ask for Velma. So Pickle Rick is going to need to work, by hook or by crook. Because if it doesn't, Smiling Friends and Yolo Silver Destinies is not going to keep the block afloat, let alone FLCL This is Completely Played Out.

Clearly the feds need to hire better record managers.

Apple TV dives into live action manga adaptations with Drops of God
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
The thing is that the premise reminds me of a film I saw a month back called Bottle Shock, but that was loosely based on a true story. That being said, nothing in Drops or Bottle Shock felt that it would be out of place in a live-action drama. -
Record of Ragnarok set for June release, Netflix exclusive
Jman replied to Jman's topic in Anime & Manga
Another new trailer. Animation definitely looks better this season. Also, Hercules vs Jack The Ripper. Personally I’m still waiting on the Nikolai Tesla fight. -
Let's see here - Witch from Mercury has gotten a very positive reception from just about everyone, but the unusual release schedule (split 4 cour, no set dub date YET) and all the other fingers in the Gundam pie probably make it unfeasible. Demon Slayer S2 - With Mugen Train now on Netflix, and another Demon Slayer movie headed for theaters (although this one is more a compilation film so I don't expect it to do the numbers Mugen Train did) it's pretty clear the franchise has left DeMarco in the mountain cold. Jujutsu Kaisen - Not happening. Not only has it been a while, but Crunchyroll has been rather invested in it, what with the original release being an exclusive for Crunchyroll to the point it aired on HBO Max (too bad WarnerMedia is one of the most poorly run conglomerates on the planet so no one wanted to share their toys) and the movie doing gangbusters for Crunchyroll to the point it outgrossed the Bob's Burgers movie (and Strange World, but that was such a flop it's going to affect how Disney releases animated movies from here on out). Trigun Stampede - Probably another case of Crunchyroll not wanting to share unless a contract forces them too. Looks like another barren year. FLCL sequels and fourth string shows from Sentai. At the rate things are going, HBO Max is going to go “Hey DeMarco! We need you to air this hot new show of ours! It’s called Velma!”

Warner flat out forbade Kaling from using Scoob. -
Ethics in AI is a tricky subject, a VERY tricky one. This is still something to be admired. A peek into something that never existed. Granted, the choices the AI makes can be interesting, like the female Swedish powerlifter as Tsunade, and aging up Sakura to make the Naruto/Hinata romance more obvious for the audience watching this at the theater in alternate universe 1987, but there's still this fascinating use of aesthetic.

I began searching for these when the director of the documentary about the failed 70s adaptation of Dune wrote an editorial for The NY Times. https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2023/01/13/opinion/jodorowsky-dune-ai-tron.html?smid=nytcore-ios-share&referringSource=articleShare It’s got the usual disadvantages of 80s tech, but for a brief moment, you could be forgiven for thinking someone made a Naruto movie in 1987…and cast a 30 year old woman as Sakura while Naruto and Sasuke were both played by teen actors.

Maybe they’re winding it down. The inevitable live-action adaptation is still coming soon, and I don’t think DeMarco wants to air the show until he knows he can use it to dunk on it. And imagine if it’s a success? (LOLNO) Any airing would be advertising his competitor. As for the schedule, good way to finish the shows with a bang, but I’m not expecting much besides reruns afterwards.
