  1. Smoking as a habit has fallen in popularity by quite a bit admittedly.
  2. Yashahime, despite its apparent second half improvement, seems to have failed utterly to capture the magic of the original.
  3. Millie’s complete absence bothers me more than the lack of a cigarette (especially with the culture around them firmly have turned negative).
  4. Dub debuts today.
  5. Anyway, looks like reporters are saying this is an additional $2-$2.5 billion
  6. To be fair, the writers of Season 2 seemed to hate the fans as well, fans of mecha anime in particular. There’s literally an arc that amounts to “super robot anime are sexist and toxic” and admitting they suck is how a character gets over their toxic masculinity. And he dies five minutes later. Given Rooster Teeth runs into a new controversy every other week it seems, slicing the entire department and just giving RWBY to SHAFT to reboot properly would be the best thing to happen for all parties involved.
  7. I posted a pretty good argument for Gen:Lock to get chainsawed.
  8. We got a preview of the dub -
  9. How everyone listened to Matt Damon and lost all their fucking money.
  10. They’re in Putin’s pocket, so their interests are shared. Although given a few comments from McConnel, he might be viewing this whole thing as a way to get rid of his benefactor without having to own up to anything.
  11. Also, as much as I rag on DeMarco, I’m pretty sure he would have seen this part of S2 and told Rooster Teeth to go fuck themselves. With a pair of rusty scissors.
  12. More good decisions from Zaslav.
  13. Another Russian jet fighter crash.
  14. Maybe it’s an allegory for the block. Jackasses ruin everything, it falls to ruin, everything sucks forever because of streaming services.
  15. Pretty lousy disguise if they were found that easily.
  16. A book precious few would read. So this “Let’s turn Star Wars into The Expanse (great show BTW) in this tiny sliver of prequel time before we ruined everything” comes off even worse. Still, not something one should attach their real name to if they want to work in the business. Especially with DeMarco crapping on people publicly to promote what is essentially an ashcan production so Warner can still claim rights to Tolkien’s third age (there was a huge scuffle a few months back that Warner’s rights to the Third Age expired and War of the Rohhrim is essentially a thinly veiled attempt to keep them. Like Morbius for the Spider Man rights).
  17. Let's see here - 1. Bleach is wholly dependent on how much Disney put up for the rights. Yes it's on Hulu here, but Disney practically owns the service (and once the remaining owners sell their shares in a few years, it's widely speculated Disney will mothball the service and integrate it into Disney + similarly to how they've done so internationally). But if Viz is running the show, it might be doable. 2. MHA is probably dependent on the pre-signed contract and if [adult swim] has a right of first refusal. My guess is CR wants to break the contract and keep the show for itself (and Hulu!) but it may not be feasible. 3. That movie is the wrench in the proverbial gears. Given it's required viewing, there's no TV show style airing the way Demon Slayer did for Mugen Train, it's probably not an option. 4. Now we're entering the "theoretical, but outside of the realm of common knowledge." Nothing is stopping Kaiji from airing (unfriendly licensors, costs, lack of dub, etc), but...why? 5. This meanwhile, is outside the realm of possibility. It's too old, the dub is from the mid-90s and sounds like it, and just because of a cameo in Housing Complex C and appearances in Super Robot Wars T and 30 means they want to push older material. What I DO think might be possible, to everyone's admitted consternation, is that Netflix, who has a relationship with CLAMP and TMS, just out and out remakes the show, because a magical girl/isekai/super robot anime is the sort of raw, concentrate anime per square inch those guys love. And given Rayearth's recent re-emergence in other products, a remake to sell the franchise makes more sense than showing outdated material. l’m sticking with my standard but generally accurate prediction -
  18. I don’t need to see a second of Andor, I saw Rogue One. (It also speaks to the larger problem of Star Wars that they fucked up the sequel trilogy so bad that anything around or after the FO timeline is so toxic and radioactive that we keep getting shows filling in plot holes no one asked about, and it’s just boring and therefore we will never see anything new. This is not helped by Rian Johnson calling dibs on a sequel trilogy which is why Disney will likely keep kicking that can down the road till his option expires at which point in 2035 provided we aren’t all dead Disney will likely just go ‘fuck it’ and reboot the entire thing). Where was I? You can think these shows suck. But if you work in the industry, saying they suck out loud WILL piss off someone who put their blood, sweat, and tears into it, and will make them VERY reluctant to work with you. And given DeMarco’s working for a company slashing jobs left and right, he should be trying to make himself more employable, not less.
  19. Maybe so, but you don’t see people in the business saying Andor is boring as fuck with their real names because that makes you look unprofessional and unreliable. It’s a bridge burning technique that makes you far less employable because the companies don’t think they can rely on you. The moral of the story being of course - If you’re going to lay into a show, do so anonymously unless it’s something you made or the owner wants to lay into it.
  20. The same week Chainsaw Man trends without a dub even being ready (25th is when it debuts) and Bleach trends without a dub being ready, these are the Toonami ratings. These are barren times, for ratings and shows. Uzumaki is one delay away from being scrapped for the tax write-off, all the originals aired during the last year were scrapped for tax write-offs, and it’s clear no one really cares about Yashahime at all, which has extra tragedy/hilarity when one remembers its predecessor was the closest thing the 2000s had to a viral anime. Something is going to give if these trends continue, especially with Zaslav running wild with his fiscal chainsaw.
  21. Gundam: Witch from Mercury 1-3. Chainsaw Man's dub starts the 25th while Witch from Mercury's won't be coming any time soon, so it made sense to watch that first.
  22. Dub premieres October 25 effectively giving the sub a two week head start. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2022-10-18/chainsaw-man-anime-reveals-english-dub-cast-october-25-premiere/.190974
