  1. DeMarco remains stunningly out of touch, and this is a pretty ill omen for 2023. Hey, if Netflix One Piece is a hit (PRESS X TO DOUBT) they may not even have One Piece by the time the year is over.
  2. Good to see Toonami is starting off 2023 the same way it did 2022. Confused and underfunded.
  3. Not sure if troll wanting free fan-art, or someone who doesn’t like Toonami and wants to kill any attempt at viral marketing.
  4. If you just want anime, Crunchyroll is your best value. Everyone else does other stuff instead, or gets the anime later.
  5. Yeah, pretty much. It’s theater to show they’re still with their base of loonies and will get the usual ass pats from the fringes.
  6. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-01-06/zom-100-bucket-list-of-the-dead-manga-gets-tv-anime-in-july-with-streaming-on-hulu/.193592 Not like it was headed to Toonami but it’s notable.
  7. At least with the Democrats there’s a theoretical end goal. No such end goal or tangible demands exists with the MAGA wing.
  8. Dandy’s a bit reminiscent of Moral Orel, not in content, but in that concept of “show advertised as comedy decides it doesn’t need to be a comedy and wants to focus on other things, only to meet a rather divisive reaction.” People don’t call it bad, but they were confused by what it was purported to be vs what it was. For Dandy’s weird, cringe, or otherwise incomprehensible moments, there were genuine flashes of brilliance, laugh out loud episodes, and nothing that could be considered unoriginal. But something that messy and disjointed was never going to get the popularity of “Japanese Beavis who turns into chainsaw monster and fights demons in the hope of scoring.”
  9. Is it possible to get 5 R’s to vote for Jeffries just to screw over the MAGA wing? More likely at this point is Kev having to go to the Dems for concessions since it’s clear the MAGA win doesn’t give a shit what he offers.
  10. The issue with Space Dandy is that it was very difficult to market. It was marketed as a madcap comedy but numerous episodes were not funny, more interested in exploring concepts and ideas than laughs (basically, everything Mike Lazzo loathed about cartoons on his watch). Add that with parodies that went nowhere depending on what side of the world you were on (the cringe that was the High School Musical parody, spoofed ideas from Space Runaway Ideon that were alien to Western viewers save hardcore followers of Tomino’s filmography), and you have a lot of disparate elements that never gelled into a whole and was quickly forgotten on both sides of the ocean.
  11. https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2023-01-05/goblin-slayer-season-2-anime-reveals-promo-video-cast-staff-2023-premiere/.193574 LIDEN films is handling the gob killing but with most of S1’s staff.
  12. He’s not entirely wrong, but the problem is the traditional over correction to a handful of sure hits. Netflix and Amazon are similarly correcting in stuff that was never going to be a hit but is there for clout (coughWarriorNuncoughLeagueOfTheirOwncough) but which is not sustainable when purse strings get tightened.
  13. Vote #7 is underway and McCarthy appears to be losing again.
  14. Alice in Borderland and the Kenshin films convinced me they should just throw money to Japanese studios and let them do it.
  15. Until he gives the Dems enough concessions that they ram him through it seems like.
  16. “Look, do you want pizza and salad or not?!”
  17. The only deal I can think of is corralling the extremists and bipartisan support on bills that would be stonewalled on principle.
  18. And it will get killed in the Senate most likely. This is going to be a lame duck session of Congress and no one is going to look good.
  19. This feels like how you would punish an unruly elementary school class. ”No pizza party until we vote on a Speaker!”
  20. Vinland Saga 1-2
  21. Maybe I doth protest too much then. I still think more accurate metrics are ultimately a good thing.
  22. Even in a vacuum it’s something they should have been doing a while ago. When your material can’t be accurately gauged, you’re forced to use inaccurate, easily manipulated metrics like social media interaction. The same 20 or so lunatics can convince people Warrior Nun is popular when it isn’t. Granted, after the Snyder Cut debacle, all of these companies should go “we do not negotiate with social media terrorists” but I digress.
  23. This is just getting silly. Especially since the procedure is the votes must continue until a majority is reached.
