  1. Also they light it up at night apparently. So this is here officially.
  2. He said Toonami was forced to by advertisers and it rustled his jimmies. I’m not going to rag on a guy for his personal tastes, but if this isn’t just regular old shitposting, then he really does seem bitter that he can no longe curate the action animation Americans watch.
  3. Jason DeMarco, the original Tumblr show runner.
  4. Bleach continues to be back on the service you get as a bonus with Disney + and ESPN +, and is nowhere near Toonami.
  5. Hell’s Paradise 7 Witch from Mercury 19
  6. Logic dictates most of the fans watch it on Max. And airing it earlier in the week means it airs on Max earlier in the week.

    BEHOLD

Sorry, reflex. That always plays when I hear "BEHOLD!". Nice icon though.
  8. Um, anyway, Genndy isn't going to go out and say "Toonami sucks dick, I'm better!" during an Adult Swim sponsored AMA. I still think my comparison of him to Ralph Bakshi that I did the other day is rather apt though. Please bear with me for a JMan ramble - Genndy thinks, maybe not without cause, that he is doing things right and everyone else is screwing up royally. "I do it right, everyone else is just pumping out uninspired, melodramatic pap or jingling keys for five year olds, and this is why it feels like it's impossible to make action cartoons unless you're Japanese, or in the case of Powerhouse, pretend to be Japanese. And those suck too save a few exceptions." It's the same thing Bakshi was claiming when he did Mighty Mouse in the 80s "Cartoons these days are either humorless imported stuff that doesn't know it's supposed to be funny, glorified toy commercials, or rehashed trash that stopped being original in 1972. Sometimes a combination like Robotech." Genndy's the same way, although we haven't reached the "Don't Touch That Dial" phase of his development where he just makes an episode of Unicorn going all in on the jingling key cartoons, the melodramatic pap that refuses to have direct conflicts, and the armada of imported animation that Genndy thinks is doing it wrong.
  9. Being a prick, basically. It’s why I’m so ashamed with how I acted as a dumb high schooler. Flaming, trolling, malicious spoilers of a show I didn’t watch because this was the dark ages before streaming…
  10. 20 years? Where the hell does the time go? I hated myself back then. I was a jackass.
  11. Final trailer for the double feature people will presumably have with Oppenheimer. It’s kind of amazing.
  12. Behold this utter abomination unto mankind. Looks like we might see the first trailer May 31, 2023.
  13. I've been referring to Unicorn as "vegetables" for the weebs, and while that may sound dismissive, it's not exactly off brand. Genndy doesn't like Toonami, he doesn't like modern animation outside of a handful of anime, (He specifically recommends Carol and Tuesday while saying everything else recent sucks), and he doesn't have nice words for Western animators (Animation needs to be animated, not just talking). (36:29). This show is, halfway through, a big case of Genndy showing people what he thinks animation should be like. It needs to be focused on the animation, it needs to have the action flow a specific way. And he will fight you in the street if you consider second-rate crap that isn't his better. I'll give Genndy this, although we're only halfway through Unicorn, he has never gone after the competition in his shows. He never did what John K. did with Mighty Mouse where he made an episode that was just him bashing his perceived competitors. (There’s a bizarre parody of Ghostbusters/Macross which apparently stemmed from the Mighty Mouse staff watching Robotech and saying it wasn’t funny, which to them meant it was a total failure).
  14. Finished Nomad: Megalobox 2. ‘Shame Toonami never got to air it. Damn shame.
  15. That didn’t take long. Like, at all.
  16. Classic case of “Not helping your case!”
  17. The overexposure coincides with the show having low replay value. Not a quality issue, but just the nature of it being a serialized action cartoon with only four episodes, and one airing in a lot of other places. You see it once, you don't need to see it again till next week. We're a little less than halfway through the 10 episode series run, so overall impression from the audience is a bit too early to decipher. Not to mention this a pretty big case of "Eat your fucking vegetables weeb", because Unicorn is unlike a lot of the modern Western silly billy cartoons, or cartoons that claim to be from people who want action, but the showrunners can't remember a single anime scene outside of some vague memories of DBZ or Sailor Moon that wasn't in the Michael Jackson "Scream" video. Would audiences be more likely to watch Demon Slayer or Witch from Mercury? Yes, but we need Unicorn to show the suits you can make an action cartoon for all ages without the DC Comics characters.
  18. Here’s an interesting question - Are low ratings for UWE due to a disinterested audience or because the show is on at numerous times, including next day Max airings? As easy as it is to lay into the show for what I perceive to be its audience issues, it’s airing on Thursday, Saturday, Sunday after ACME hour, with a next day Max premiere and planned marathons. That results in a lot of potential audience dilution even if it’s not the nonstop airings of TT Go and Craig of the Creek.
  19. Max does the same thing to Space Ghost Coast 2 Coast, and Adult Swim responds the same way.
  20. Is it a significant force? It must be if they’re launching a sustained occupation campaign. Does Russia have the troops and equipment to spare if these guys can open a new front?
