Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yeah, that was weird. The official schedule on [adult swim]'s website didn't even show it, but the backdoor did. On a related note, I actually think they've changed the way the backdoor works, since they did not post schedule data for a whole week after the 28th, but then they put the entire week down, and now it goes up to the 6th. Maybe this is how DeMarco combats people nagging him about blank spots in the schedule: with more staggered releases. So, with the S-bomb, it should've been 14DLS, if the S is neccessary at all. I didn't think so, although I wasn't paying as much attention to the episode. I was too busy having this strange neurotic process caused by me taking Adderall and a little bit of Monster Energy at the same time. At least it made me think... but then it was hard for me to do anything else. -

Here's Another Anime Adult Swim Overlooked Years Ago
Blatch replied to PurgatoryGirl's topic in Anime & Manga
Yeah... seemingly every time there's been an attempt to bring anime to American TV that isn't Toonami, it's a non-starter. At least Mnet America actually ran all of the first Love Live! series, albeit in the most quixotic manner possible.- 16 replies

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Why the hell was there no announcement for MHA before? Man, you people all need to step up your game. But on the plus side, at least there's isn't a janky "top ten" feature that often has whatever Toonami announcement just happened at #1. -
The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board

It would kind of suck to move DBZ Kai down to midnight for its last three episodes. Even if The Final Chapters hasn't been as well received as the original, I still want it to have a good denouement. Still, unlike with Bleach, everyone should be able to watch the finale regardless of their cable provider. I agree with Moltar's theorizing, but it doesn't take Attack on Titan S3 into account. They're going to be forced to do some funky things with the schedule if they want to air it. For one thing, the first episode of a same-day simuldub would likely air on July 7, which is also a likely marathon date. They would have to either run the normal schedule up to a certain point, or just play the first new AoT episode by itself at the very beginning of the block and have a marathon take up everything else. And if the former schedule includes FLCL Progressive, that means they could air all six episodes in a row, but then it would upset the balance of airing a rerun of it because there would be an empty slot after it reruns for six weeks. In other words, a total mess! The only "easy" solution would be to expand the block to 10:00 for AoT, and they may very well go for it. But I'm also not sure if Jason is comfortable with the block running six hours or more again. Heck, it probably wouldn't hurt Toonami to be shorter right now. -
MY HERO ACADEMIA COMING TO TOONAMI ON MAY 5TH
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Now this is pretty cool. I never had a gut feeling that MHA would air on Toonami, but I didn't know of anything that would disqualify it. I mean, if Tokyo Ghoul can air on Toonami several years after it was relevant, pretty much any show has a shot. All that's left to wonder is if it'll be in two or three years or right now. Some people will complain that this is yet another shonen (possibly because they can't find joy in anything), but at least it's a genuinely good one. And it won a bunch of honors at Crunchyroll's awards show, which probably speaks more to its overall popularity, but I bet a lot of people watched this anime and thought it had something special baked in. Let's do this. -

I'm still expecting the usual Facebook announcement, or maybe they announce it on Pre-Flight for a change. They've managed to drag this out to a downright comical extent, so I can't see them not announcing it beyond this weekend. The fandom wanting to utterly lose it doesn't help things. -

I've already mentioned that they could drop the slot for a couple of weeks. Even if they schedule a marathon for June 30, you could start it at 11:00 after a preemption the week before to maintain continuity. It would at least look better on my personal ratings grid. That date is farther from the holiday, but the benefits are that AoT S3 starts alongside the full lineup instead of airing before a marathon, and FLCL Progressive is preempted with two episodes left instead of one... not that there isn't precedent for both situations. -

That depends on if the former is only one cour. I thought I heard that it was going to be longer, but nothing official has been said, and I feel like that may just be wishful thinking from the show's fanbase. -

Do you actually think they would use the 11:00 slot for anime premieres that aren't DBZ Kai? I dare say Made in Abyss (or something else that popular) would be an ideal replacement. -

Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Nah. It's because FLCL Progressive premieres in six weeks and they're rerunning the original out of convenience before then. Stop overthinking this. That's from DBZ Kai, so of course it's going to be lower. We won't know the real percentage until FLCL's numbers come out. -
Some people actually don't regard SAO as a "true" isekai because it takes place in a virtual world, rather than a completely-disconnected alternate. If you have that opinion, the only one to ever air on Toonami is... uh, InuYasha? Also, get that shit about the smartphone show and Death March out of here. If you want a true isekai show for Toonami that doesn't suck, how about Knight's & Magic? It has good robot fights, the character development isn't bad, and with how utterly wholesome Ernesti is as well as how he affects the world around him, he might just end up being the hero this block doesn't know it needs. While I didn't love it, it managed to hold my attention for the entire run.

Can you please stop?

Well that must have been uncomfortable for many... as in the music video, let alone Polnareff's Bizarre Pedophilia Adventure. It came out of downright nowhere, not showing up on the on-air despite having a content rating, and it wasn't even mentioned this week's Pre-Flight. I wonder if this Jason suddenly aired this to let his frustrations out after the recent bombings in Syria.
-
Yeah... I've already talked at length about this, but airing subbed shows is pretty much the exact opposite of what Toonami stands for, and it also completely defeats the point of why they did the April Fools' gag to begin with. But maybe it actually could happen. I'm thinking we get a more typical announcement on Facebook some time during the week. If they have to do another delay for some unholy reason, my first guess would be a rerun of Samurai Jack S5 being added.
