The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
So it's more of a vocal minority drowning stuff out. I understand. At least threads like this aren't as populated as back in the ASMB. But at some points, it does feel like a large crowd's in here. -
The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm talking more about the grand scheme of things. Toonami's future has already been secured despite seemingly poor ratings. I was hoping the scandal last year involving AoT S2's run allegedly being cut short as well as the "emergency replacement show" would cause us to ween off of the complaining, but I guess not. That turned out to be nothing, so even if the ratings are lower than that right now, it's not worthy of our focus. And like what's been said before, Jason probably would warn us if things got especially dire. Basically, your mindless fanboying of how Netflix is the best doesn't amount for much other than yelling into the void. I mean, I guess you could do it here, but that ignores what other people want to talk about, which is equally pointless. -

At this point, we're parroting the same shit over and over again. Black Clover sucks, Netflix rules, DeMarco needs to stop tweeting about how the Democrats are complicit in ethnic cleansing and start airing good shows again... and now I'm back at the point where I don't think we should have a ratings thread. -
We have about four and a half days left until the big reveal, so let's get all of our predictions down for posterity. Personally, I think it will be a premiere of Re:Zero at the top of the block, and then an FLCL marathon. It's especially advantageous considering that the first episode of the former is an hour long. They could air the unadulterated version the first time, and then split it into half-hour chunks for the next few weeks, so people wouldn't miss much as a result of sudden gag. It never occurred to me that they could preempt everything until 6:00 a.m. for a gag, but in that case, running FLCL S1 twice would be fill the schedule out nicely. Now, what's your opinion? Also, feel free to use this thread to discuss the actual gag when it happens.

What kind of thing can Toonami even do for Instagram? Take pretty pictures of the shows? -
Personally, I think Toonami could benefit from being a more well-rounded anime block. They're currently the only game in town for American TV, they have been for a while, and they'll probably be the only one left for as long as linear TV is a thing. I know they're not going to air stuff like straight slice-of-life or extreme fanservice shows, but it's good to open the horizons to action-adjacent shows of other genres, because what gets passed over is pretty much not going to air at all... anywhere. This is why I think Made in Abyss would be a great pick: It's got a little bit of everything, between action, horror, slow-burning drama, and even some lewd comedy by way of Reg's robot penis. On the other hand, I honestly don't think Pop Team Epic could work, at least outside of [adult swim] proper. It would seem incomprehensible to the mainstream audience and likely be ratings poison. It's probably got a better chance of airing than Ninja Slayer, though. Remember when people were pushing for that show?

You mean "Flip Flappers fame". Or Princess Principal, if you like your alliteration but don't want it to be overdone. Oh, and by the way... I do think it's time. The iDOLM@STER Episode 20: "Promise"

Honestly, what's the point of citing a single Internet critic's opinion about the show? They don't represent the majority. There are even other ANN employees who've spoken negatively of Black Clover.

Trunks Thread 19.1: A New New Frontier
Blatch replied to PokeNirvash's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
You know Poke, it's kind of refreshing to read a complete paragraph from you in this thread. Those stray observations all in a row usually make my eyes bug out. But yeah, talk about an amazing finale for an awesome show. Spike was a one-man wrecking ball for the entire syndicate, and he did it for Julia as well as to get one last attack in on Vicious in general, and it was tremendous to watch. The action, all of it, was so well choreographed. Being a big, dumb action show was theoretically all Cowboy Bebop needed to be for people to like it, but having so many emotional beats without getting bogged down in any of them is precisely what's caused it to shoot up to the status of being one of the greatest. And that final shot is the stuff of legend... I would often listen to "Blue" after any major Toonami show finished as a measure of finality, but being able to hear it on the real thing was second to none. Now I just wish my DVR hadn't gone all wonky and missed recording two episodes ("My Funny Valentine" and "Black Dog Serenade"), although I still need to watch the movie (which I don't own) anyway, so I guess I'll buy both releases at once. Either way, this is a must-watch for anyone else. -
hunter x hunter Hunter x Hunter x Episode x 89 x Discussion
Blatch replied to 3ngag3's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
This is a pretty common belief. Admittedly, even I think they have feelings for each other. I heard a rumor that the newest chapters of HxH apparently have something regarding... gay stuff, but I have no idea what is for sure. -
JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, Episode 30 (Egypt Arc Episode 6)
Blatch replied to Blatch's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Joseph got off easy compared to the dude who was accidentally impaled. But at least Bast's powers ultimately provided a laugh riot of an episode. -
Kakegurui #3 Violet Evergarden #1 Pop Team Epic #12 (END) Ethically, I'm against watching shows before they premiere on Netflix, even if I hate that service for not providing simulcasts.

There's already multiple dedicated threads for this in the Toonami folder. You can keep up the good vibes over there.

A Seinen Action Anime That Never Aired On Adult Swim
Blatch replied to PurgatoryGirl's topic in Anime & Manga
This is only a tangential observation, but I think Birdy the Mighty: Decode would've been a great choice for either [adult swim action] or Toonami to air. The problem was that it came almost perfectly between [asa]'s downfall and the revival of the latter. Still, I have to wonder what the opinions would've been if it had aired instead of Casshern Sins.- 11 replies

outlaw_star Outlaw Star Final Episode (#26) Discussion
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
It was somewhat weird, but it's common for anime to go cosmic (or, at least beyond mere space) in their last episode, so I just accepted it. My major issue was that some of the dialogue, especially just before the final battle, was delivered too fast and felt rushed. Maybe they should've mapped things out a little better if they knew they were in a crunch. -
Huh... that actually got by me as well. Maybe I should've let you take the JoJo's thread as a personal present?

re:zero Could Re:Zero be coming to Toonami??
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Actually, soon after I posted that, we got an announcement that Sentai is going to be simuldubbing stuff... err, they're called "dubcasts", since Funi owns the trademark for the basic term. It's kind of funny. I personally don't think that this'll impact whether or not more Sentai shows air on Toonami (since they already never do), but you never know. -
re:zero Could Re:Zero be coming to Toonami??
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I can disqualify it just because Aniplex never does simuldubs, unless they somehow outsource one to Funi. I think it's an underrated proposal, mostly since it would give some serious catharsis to people who were upset by Rick and Morty preempting anime last year. But I won't name anyone in particular. -
They're not going to expand the block for that when Ghost in the Shell ends two weeks before. Everything should move down after Memorial Day. Speaking of which, if they preempt it for the April Fool's schedule, that would leave it with 8 episodes to air in seven normal weeks before the next holiday. They could rerun the original FLCL for six of them and then double up on GiTS for the last week just like with Bebop.
-
I have no idea where this date came from, so it's not official to me. Maybe the ANN writer made it up out of thin air. However, Ghost in the Shell does end the weekend before Memorial Day, so that would be the easiest show to replace.

FLCL 2 and 3 Titles Revealed And New Image
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]

Almost nobody expected that [adult swim] would preempt primetime for a second gag last year, so the risk of losing viewers was rational, albeit still rather overblown. You should cool it with the fearmongering for right now and just enjoy whatever funny shit ends up airing.

DeMarco Tweets Toonami's Future Full Of "NEW" Stuff
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I don't think that's the implication at all. In fact, it might even bolster Re:Zero's chances, because it's a seinen and pretty deconstructive of the isekai tropes anime has been saturated with lately. More western cartoons on Toonami would be cool. I'm actually somewhat hoping for Children of Ether to show up, since the pilot Crunchyroll made showed some... uh, potential.
