  1. This definitely would've been announced by now if it was actually happening.
  2. I suppose it's a good thing neither of us have any deadlines set for each post... The iDOLM@STER Episode 21: "Like the Blooming Flowers"
  3. I saw Crunchyroll try to market that as a selling point for the show. Needless to say, it was disappointing.
  4. The thing with Stand-Alone Complex is that Manga Entertainment owns the home video rights to the show in perpetuity because they bankrolled a large amount of the series' production, just like they did for the original movie. Basically, they thought this franchise could become the next Akira in the west and wanted to take advantage of that. And now, Anchor Bay is now the permanent licensor for the series through owning Manga after some corporate buyouts. They also happen to give zero damns about anime in general. So the franchise is pretty much doomed to forever getting inadequate home media releases in America, which really fucking sucks. I can't even imagine how such a critically acclaimed franchise could suffer this fate. The only thing we can do about it is to import a foreign release, and thankfully, I've heard very good things about those sets from South Korea.
  5. And when Netflix made a really big effort to make inroads with anime. I thought I heard something along the lines of, they wanted to premiere one new show every other week on average.
  6. Hot damn, another one! It seems like this place has only become more popular as it's gone on.
  7. Even if Countdown didn't change the status quo, the ending with the other TOM floating in space definitely feels like a cliffhanger. Whether or not they'll actually build on that for the TIE in 2019 is anyone's guess. As light entertainment, I enjoyed this one. It wasn't on the same level as Intruders 2 and 3, though. It's also cool that they actually aired the full cut of a TIE in its own slot. Come the DST transition in November, they should use the extra hour to air all three the [adult swim] Toonami has done, and maybe a music video or two if there's still time to fill after them.
  8. I wouldn't say that Netflix is able to get all of the shows Toonami wants. Heck, what are the biggest anime they've premiered this year? Violet Evergarden? Kakegurui? I'm not sure if either of those could ever air on the block. Then you've got stuff they produced outright like Devilman Crybaby, which I guess could be compatible with Toonami, but I'm sure the show's extreme content might get in the way. Actually, it might be that streaming in general is as big of an obstacle to Toonami as any other streaming service. DeMarco said a while back that the rights to The Ancient Magus' Bride weren't available... I find the statement interesting, because how exactly would he know about that if he wasn't potentially looking at it as a show for Toonami? Of course, that's beside the point. Crunchyroll has the show, as well as no real initiative to air stuff on TV, so if they own those particular rights, why would they sit on them? Or maybe they don't even have them all together? I've said this before, but I think it might be that TV rights are no longer offered in the base package for licensing an anime. I'm sure the expectation for a studio is that their show is going to make the vast majority of its money off of streaming, so it's not wise to bother with outdated consumption formats.
  9. Welcome back. I was active on the ASMB for about the last two and a half years of its existence, so I'm not sure if I ever interacted with you... but it's nice to have yet another user from years past on these boards.
  10. Coming soon to an anti-war protest near you. So, regarding the other threads... are we just going to remake them all for the dubbed broadcasts? I meant to ask that at some point.
  11. Whether or not it's "wasting a slot" is a matter of personal preference. DeMarco doesn't seem to think so, although he has apparently admitted that the block could be shorter. Personally, I think they could relinquish Bebop and move GiTS up to 3:00, or maybe even ditch the entire hour once that show ends. If there are no HD remasters of classic shows (Big O, Gundam Wing, et al.) on the way, I would strongly consider it.
  12. Good Luck Girl #1 Kakegurui #4 How to Keep a Mummy #2 Tokyo Ghoul;re #1
  13. Oh, okay. I just prefer to use that as a general term. Simuldubs, dubcasts... there's no real difference.
  14. It had been done before (Kurokami says hi), but Space Dandy was probably first time a dub had been created that quickly without it being a trainwreck.
  15. My personal biggest issue is that you just can't come to a conclusion based off of this special event. Yes, the numbers (at least from midnight to 4:15A) held steady, but you probably had equilibrium from some of the normal people leaving alongside the more curious viewers tuning in when they otherwise wouldn't. How would they react if you started showing subs on a weekly basis? Also, Toonami's mission has never been to air subtitled content. As in, not in Japanese or German or Navajo or some shit, but in good old English; American, British, or otherwise. And considering that they essentially created the idea of a simuldub, it would do them more good to keep airing shows with English versions produced as quickly as possible. Why even bother with airing a simulcast if Funimation can spit out a dub of this show within a week of the simulcast airings? Of course, I understand we're talking about a property from Aniplex here, but my hope is that these dubs eventually become an industry standard and they're pretty much forced to at least try (again). Also, you saying "daresay" so much bugs me for some reason.
  16. W... what? I feel like the Japanese companies would have to be genuinely insane to accept airing on a backwoods American television block rather than the oasis of legal streaming, and [adult swim]'s website isn't a valid substitute. Otherwise, I'm probably going crazy myself, because I'm okay with this idea, even though I know it's never going to happen.
  17. If you asked [adult swim] about potentially cratering the numbers due to Crunchynami, I'm sure they'd give you a two-word response: Worth it.
  18. I have to assume they don't care where HxH airs because it's a show with a fixed number of episodes. Therefore, it doesn't have a very high chance of being cancelled. As long as it's just barely hanging over the line to make a profit, it'll stay, so there's nothing to worry about.
  19. Samurai Jack S5 wasn't even a year ago.
  20. So I DVR's the Bushworld Adventures and recently watched it. Honestly, considering it came oppose the most elaborate prank in [adult swim] history, this felt like a total afterthought; they also took a much more subdued approach to airing it compared to the Szechuan sauce thing. But hey, this was fun. I don't know how much of Rick and Morty the guy who made this has watched, but there were references to an insignificant line from the first episode as well as the original Doc and Mharti short, which was fairly surprising. Maybe they're just feigning cursory knowledge of the source material for laughs? Now I just gotta wait for Uncle Barry to come and take me down to Bendigo. You... ya gotta turn back into a car, Uncle Barry.
  21. At this point, I think Champloo is a likely choice to replace Ghost in the Shell: SAC when it ends. Granted, they could do all sorts of things with that half-hour, including rerunning GiTS from the beginning, bringing back Outlaw Star for another run, or even dropping the slot entirely, but I bet they would love the sheer novelty of having three Watanabe shows in a row to end the block.
  22. Well now... I wonder if they had to argue with the licensor on that one. Some people would probably argue that Black Clover isn't on late enough, or that Shippuden should be moved up a bit, but I'm happy with this change. And not moving Gundam: IBO pretty much confirms that they'll (at least try to) replace it with a new show, as if it was ever in doubt to begin with. Let's keep our fingers crossed...
  23. I would be a little bit more optimistic, but yeah. DeMarco has said there's new stuff coming, and I want to hold him at that, but it's also really suspect that we're over a quarter of the way into the year and not one new show has premiered.
  24. Just when I thought they couldn't drag out the reveal of a new show any longer... But yeah, this makes enough sense. With the original FLCL flowing right into the sequels, that franchise will probably have a stronghold on the 11:30 slot for the rest of the year. It just really sucks that this is basically Outlaw Star's replacement. I wanted something that was new to the block, regardless of if it was amazing. And now I'm paranoid that they're somehow going to fuck up Gundam IBO's departure and have that not be new. Say hello to Season 2 of The Big O, everybody!
  25. Yeah... I think my brain's broke. It just spilled out onto the carpet. Maybe if I watch another episode of Kakegurui, it'll fix itself?
