The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I see no reason to panic. Also, shouldn't Al have made a comment about this one not doing well in the female demographics? After all, it does have quite a lot of empowering female characters, which we like to the point of being masturbatory about it. -
Toyotaro under scrutiny (some spoilers contained within)
Blatch replied to mochi's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The tracing of Marvel/DC material seemed more suspect to me than taking from DBZ. This is something someone slightly more famous would be at least reprimanded for, so I feel like the other shoe should drop on this guy any day now... even if it's been a couple of weeks. -
Personally, I almost never explicitly drop shows. I just take really long hiatuses between episodes. Even Recovery of an MMO Junkie, which I stopped watching because of something unrelated to the content of the show, I'll probably get back to in a few months or so, once the controversy with the director is nothing more than an unusual trivia question. On the other hand, I did drop Black Clover out of my own volition, but that should be obvious. Everyone else seemed to do it.

gundam Two years ago today, Gundam returned to Toonami!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I'm thinking they'll play an HD remaster of G Gundam. It's seemingly not serious at all compared to the rest of the franchise, which could work to its advantage. -

flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) PROGRESSIVE EPISODE #1 DISCUSSION!!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
You could say "divisive", but while the opinions I saw were mostly all over the place, I didn't find anyone who said it sucked. Still, my limited view of the anime community probably isn't the best gauge of commercial appeal. -
flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) PROGRESSIVE EPISODE #1 DISCUSSION!!

Well, the opinions I saw are very scattersho-... Actually, it's Jman. I'm not bothering with an explanation. -
flcl FLCL (FOOLY COOLY) PROGRESSIVE EPISODE #1 DISCUSSION!!
Blatch replied to OwlChemist81's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Or how he was wearing a skirt. And then his underwear got compared to panties in a conversation. Oh, this new season. In a way, it seems "Progressive" compared to what's come before, but in a good way. Hidomi feels like a take on the FLCL protagonist fit for the last couple of years, combining the struggles of adolescence with a big dose of millennial cynicism. She has no idea what she wants to be, and I have to wonder if it's because she feels the older generations have fucked her over to an extent. The fact that she's just sitting there in her room, watching apparently rotoscoped footage of an idol concert without emotion, seems to drive home the point, as does her dreams of becoming a zombie and/or giant robot and eventually collapsing into nothing. If you're not an unironic Posadist, that might be the way to go. I ended up being enamored by this premiere. While it may have leaned a little too much on the references (although I will say, if that was a text message reenactment of the manga scene describing "fooly cooly" from the original show's first episode, it was really cute), it did have some instant classic moments, like the aforementioned opening and skirt scene, the teacher showing pr0n to her students, and then her reveal as Haruko wearing a skinsuit at the end. I got up off my seat and cheered at that one. This really does feel like a new version of the show anime fans of my generation can call their own. I hope it gets even better over the next five episodes. -
Toonami Developing New Anime With 'Ghost in the Shell' Studio
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
After the main character of the series (arguably) died? Touché. Personally, I do think another Cowboy Bebop show could work, if it becomes more of an anthology series like with the FLCL sequels. They could never get away with a direct sequel, of course, but I'm sure any new series would have cameos from Jet, Faye, Edward, Ein, and all our favorites. -

Never forget... the episode that made Jman ragequit the show. But he did come back, because I guess he typically does. -

Toonami Developing New Anime With 'Ghost in the Shell' Studio
Blatch replied to The1gairon's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Well, Samurai Jack S5 was successful because so many people wanted it, and I expect the center to hold with the new FLCL seasons as well. When it comes to completely new productions, not all of them are going to be winners, but I hope Toonami's decreased reliance on ratings means that a show that would normally be an abject failure can still make money. -
All I care about is the new season of Cinderella Girls Theater. Of course, I do tend to watch two or three simulcasts a season based on what's popular, so we'll see what happens. I am actually scared for Back Street Girls, though. Depending on how the premise is treated, that one'll either be one of the best shows of the season, or the absolute worst.

Since Turner no longer cares about ratings....
Blatch replied to Ginguy's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
I was actually an active poster on the TF boards back in 2013-ish, when I first got into Toonami. It was fairly staid there, but fun. Ironically, I ended up abandoning it for a heap of shit in the shape of [adult swim]'s official boards. -
For what it's worth, I still want to watch Amai Choubatsu (err, Sweet Punishment?) if it ever ends up being subbed. Magical Girl Ore #9 How to Keep a Mummy #4 Log Horizon S1E1

The Toonami Ratings Thread 1.0 :You are on a new board
Blatch replied to StarPanda's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Nah, these are just bad. But that's okay. I feel like airing the promos during big sporting events is something Turner should have done by now, at least for the Samurai Jack revival or even a bigger dub premiere such as Attack on Titan (S1) or One-Punch Man. Nevertheless, we'll see how this does. -
So I've heard a rumor that the FLCL Progressive promo played during tonight's NBA playoff game, since... you know, TNT broadcasted it. I thought I heard someone say they should've done this for Attack on Titan. Either way, it's pretty cool if true.

Definitely; the original ASMB (with the Lithium software) was by all means a shithole. Then we had the NodeBB boards, which were arguably even worse. Mmhmm. I should have really got to work on my own light novel/anime idea by now. -
so toonami airs a marathon because of memorial day weekend
Blatch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
The biggest problem for me is the idea of a Halloween marathon. We absolutely don't need one, at least with the changing circumstances. At the same time, I'm also a little surprised that Toonami has never done an Easter marathon. It's like Thanksgiving in that some people travel very far to meet up with their families. I feel like it wouldn't be a bad idea to do that if only so there can be a marathon in the first five months of the year. Also, they don't need to do a 4th of July marathon if the actual date falls in the middle of the week. But we'll see how they handle that a little while from now... -

Blatch replied to CountFrylock's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Here's how I see this playing out: Viewer: "Aww, why do not get the regular shows this week? I'm disappointed." DeMarco: "This is like a gift to you. Don't you understand that you don't have to watch the shows every week?" Viewer: "But, that's what I want..." DeMarco: "You don't understand. Honestly, you're too obsessed with Toonami. Please sto-..." Viewer: "BUT I REALLY WANT MY ANIME. GAAAAAAH..." DeMarco: "No. Screw you, asshole. You will do something else productive instead of watching your anime, and you will like it." Viewer: "Uh... okay, I guess." -
When the apple blossoms bloom in the garden of your mind, I'll be... your biggest fan. The iDOLM@STER Episode 25: "Everyone, Together!" And that is... not the end of this show. Yes, Virginia, there is one episode left. Episode 26: "A Story Called 765pro" (plus some clean-up work) And with that, I end coverage of this series. It was an extremely fun ride, to the point where I'd say it's the best idol show I've ever seen, and in my top 10 anime I've ever seen... maybe even top 5. Would that be giving idols in general too much credit? I'll save any other opinions on this series for a later date, so as not to spoil potential blogging opportunities. The next show begins fairly soon. See you all in the database.

Maybe all the holiday marathons are just virtue signaling. It's like DeMarco doesn't want us to take these stupid Korean cartoons too seriously. -
I've seen tremendous praise given to the show in just about all publicity I've seen of it. The original Infomercial special this was based on probably got good reviews as well. On top of that, it's something I genuinely want to see, which speaks a lot to my current viewing situation when I've only watched two episodes of the most recent Rick and Morty season. Maybe you should stop blindly hating all live-action shows this network makes.
