This is different from what happened at Silicon Valley Bank. This is investors selling shares in the companies, not depositors rushing to take their money out of the bank. These banks are all also much smaller than Silicon Valley Bank with fewer assets. Could falling stock prices lead to depositors withdrawing their money? Good question. But even if it does, it's a different series of events. Also, this reeks of traders short selling stocks (selling stock with the intention of buying it again at a cheaper price).

I'm thinking the Kremlin drones are the actions of some unknown, amateurish actor. I base that on the fact the U.S. says they had no foreknowledge this was going to occur. I would think the U.S. would detect either a Ukrainian government - ordered operation or a Russian government false flag event. And they didn't detect either. So some "off the grid" culprits did it.

The Kremlin drone seems like another one of these weird flashpoints that have been occurring over 15 months of the war. Things like the Nordstream pipeline explosion, the Ukrainian missile that fell in Poland, the Kerch bridge attack, those Russians fighting on Ukraine's side shooting up a Russian border town, the U.S. drone that was downed over the Black Sea, the killing of the daughter of Dugin, and scores of other mysterious fires and explosions in Russia. Whether anything comes out of the Kremlin drone story (like Russian retaliation), I don't know.

Ukraine and the U.S. work together on intelligence sharing and the U.S. knows specifics like what the targets of Russian missiles are going to be. Might explain the crazy high success rate of air Ukrainian defense, which I laughed off and thought was absurd when I first heard it. Today, Russia supposedly launched a volley of missiles. I've been following it on social media. But the weird thing is there doesn't seem to be many reported impacts inside Ukraine as of yet. That could change, but right now it's really weird to have missiles launched but we don't know what happened to them.

Another example of "did you really need to tweet that?" This thread may turn into me expressing my disgust at people's online personalities.

I'm pretty exhausted by Russian government threats. One thing I'm really looking forward to is being able to ignore Russia again when geopolitics finally calms down. Basically I can't wait to not having to listen to Russia speak about anything once again. (I really think I hate it as a country now.)

2024 Presidential Elections: the schadenfreude commences
Icarus27k replied to NewBluntsworth's topic in Current Events
Regarding Biden in general, he has a stronger case for reelection than what many people seem to think and what his underwater job approval rating implies. Here's how Democratic strategist Simon Rosenberg (one of the few people who was credited for getting the 2022 midterm right) puts it: I'd add wage growth to this list. The average hourly wage has had a pretty steep rise over the past two years. Maybe the fastest two-year rise ever recorded. Anecdotally, I can vouch for this. I currently make twice as much as my pre-pandemic job. -
Also, I enjoyed this post of yours very much. Well above the average post. A+

So, these predictions didn't turn out too well I see.

Take a look at this tweet. This is a line graph with unclear axes. A red line is shooting up, and the user is calling it "horrifying". There's no context as to what this is at all. You may be saying, "wait, you are just pulling this out of a thread that would make sense in context." Nope. This tweet is by itself. Twitter, enabling poor communication skills that is even bad by social media standards.

Will weight-loss drugs put diet charlatans out of business? I hope so. https://www.washingtonpost.com/food/2023/04/25/weight-loss-drugs-obesity-dieting Interesting column that distinguishes new drugs like Wegovy from the very long history of weight loss fads. It argues these drugs are actual medical breakthroughs in treating the chronic, progressive disease obesity and fads/diets/programs are not.
