  1. "To fight the radical gender ideology..." I'll have to stop her right there. Only a delusional person embracing toxic groupthink would find anything radical or ideological about the existence and experience of trans people. Acting like the normal is some weird other is bad. Just bad.
  2. I don't know. I was surprised. I was expecting to have to pay hundreds of dollars a month.
  3. Queer generally means "radical or activist in asserting rights, both the individual's and the community's". It denotes kind of a mission in addition to an identity. That can apply to all LGBTQ people to an extent, but there are plenty who are just trying to live their life and not always thinking about community action.
  4. Attempts to be "we're accepting of LGB but not T" makes one virtually no more progressive than anti-gay people 30 years ago. It's obnoxious they probably think of themselves as progressive cause they're just alright with marriage equality.
  5. The first 24 hours on the medicine. I was anxious in the same way you normally are when taking a new medication but no side effects at all so far. Also, no hunger. If this is how it's supposed to work, I understand how someone can forget to eat.
  6. I am defining "meme" broadly for this thread. A comic strip would certainly be included.
  7. I collect comics, which can get very expensive. Luckily, it's almost all DC, so there isn't any one book that is "first appearance of Miles Morales expensive" or anything.
  8. Markoff_cheney hallucinating that he had a vision of hell one night. And yes, he was being serious. It was part spooky ghost story, but also absolutely hilarious at the same time.
  9. I've never had an account banned. I often wondered what had to be done, specifically, to get banned but I could never achieve this honor. Maybe I'm too much of a goody two shoes.
  10. The anime is surprisingly jazzy and moody, and you don't really appreciate that on your first viewing or when reading the manga. Here's its score. "Genuine friendship," "Coexistence," "TEM is my friend"? What emotive song titles. I love it.
  11. The new work requirement for SNAP recipients is the worst thing about the deal, but it's smart that overall SNAP will have a net gain. The reduced IRS funding can be addressed by shifting the timing of the funding. For example, instead of increased funding lasting for five years as originally planned, it'll only last for 3 and a half years. But for those 3 and a half years, there will be no change in the IRS's capacity. By the time the funding runs out, maybe Democrats will control both chambers of Congress again and can vote for more funding at that time. Those are the two biggest concessions from Democrats.
  12. EXCLUSIVE: Trump captured on tape talking about classified document he kept after leaving the White House CNN — Federal prosecutors have obtained an audio recording of a summer 2021 meeting in which former President Donald Trump acknowledges he held onto a classified Pentagon document about a potential attack on Iran, multiple sources told CNN, undercutting his argument that he declassified everything. The recording indicates Trump understood he retained classified material after leaving the White House, according to multiple sources familiar with the investigation. On the recording, Trump’s comments suggest he would like to share the information but he’s aware of limitations on his ability post-presidency to declassify records, two of the sources said. https://www.cnn.com/2023/05/31/politics/trump-tape-classified-document-iran-milley
  13. I just realized this deal suspends, not raises, the debt ceiling for two years. In effect, we're not going to have a debt ceiling until 2025. It's going to be an experiment in not having one. I'd support eliminating it altogether.

  15. For years, I have been fearing an anti-LGBTQ backlash. When marriage equality was made the law of the land in 2015, I braced for it. But it didn't come. At least not noticably. Is this the backlash now? Maybe. I'm not really paying attention to these jerks who are complaining about Bud Light or Target. Just because it's easier not to. I don't want to be sad listening to what they're saying. That was also my approach 25 years ago when homophobia was considered common sense, so I may not be able to tell when someone is a serious bigoted threat or not.
  16. The debt ceiling deal will EXPAND both the number of people on SNAP and the money spent on SNAP. Any reductions due to the harsher work requirements for people in their 50s will be offset by relaxed requirements for other groups.
  17. This is a little more than just a dumb media appearance. Reade is apparently renouncing her U.S. citizenship.
  18. Tara Reade, the person who accused Joe Biden of sexual assault in 2020. Remember those few weeks when we listened to her claim, took it seriously and investigated it. Like how normal, sane people would do? And then we determined her accusation was unlikely to be true. Well, here is Reade being much less sympathetic.
  19. The way House Democrats worked when Pelosi was leader was almost all agreed to be team players and they would vote against a Dem priority only if they knew it won't cause the bill to fail. In other words, some members were given permission to vote against the caucus as long as it didn't stop whatever the caucus was doing.
  20. We'll see if Trump gets indicted again in the next week. There is a little bit of expectation for it.
