We are not far off from questioning the viability of the Republican Party. The GOP hasn't won an election cycle since 2016, McCarthy is barely the House Speaker after having to hold a couple dozen Speaker votes get him elected, and the GOP will lose up and down the ballot in 2024 if they nominate Trump. In a few years, we could be asking what new party is going to replace the Republican Party.

Nothing tells me that Russia is a free, progressive country as much as when ordinary Russian people flee from reporters doing "man on the street" interviews because they're terrified of what will happen to them if they say the wrong thing.

Yes, they do get to do whatever they want. They will kill any serious opposition to retain that ability. My specific points were: they are not democratic governments and they have rulers who want to stay in power forever.

Dictatorships are easy to recognize. Russia and China have no democratic governments and leaders who want to rule until they die.
