Wiki lists it as episode 1 of season 17. I don’t think CR cuts the seasons up correctly. If Toonami is going straight to Toei to get these episodes, I’d assume they are going by the proper breakdown rather than the CR one. Please do, I’d love to be able to put this to rest. Though, if it is leaving, I doubt he will answer.

Allegedly, the anime is supposed to deviate away from the manga ending. So we may either get an end that isn’t as bad, or we get to witness an end people hate even more. 8/12 - 627 Luffy Dies at Sea! The Pirate alliance comes apart! 8/19 - 628 - A major turnaround! Luffy’s iron fist strikes! ??? - 629 Startling! The Big News Shakes up the New World Episode 629 drops Hands Up and swaps the OP to Wake Up, marking the start of a new arc/episode batch.

Is that really a surprise or a bad thing? Let’s make the 3 hours we have great before thinking about adding more time. Something they have struggled with for the entire year. Anyways, I’m glad we can finally get this out of the way. Still think after all this time it would have been better to pair the two up later this year, but I suppose it would still be good if we can get part 2 before 2023 ends. So here’s what 9/16 looks like 12 - Grunge 12:30 - empty 1 - empty 1:30 - maybe empty maybe One Piece 2 - Naruto 2:30 - MHA AoT allows them to not have to split the spotlight as much, but they still have lots of work to do the following week. And I’m a noticer, and I notice on 8/19 Punk Hazard airs its final episode and then they stall 3 weeks, so I’m still not writing off One Piece leaving again.

The first one he may not even be 100% wrong on. Early era emissions equipment on 80s vehicles was often the source of problems. Not for the reasons given, just that the technology was rushed out the door. In the second one, the way he says “no… no!” to getting his ass kicked is great. Early era KotH had him deliver the dialog differently, it’s a lot deeper and more monotone.

They have tried many times to bring Kahn in, he doesn’t want to hang out with hillbilly redneck. Plus, it’s not about just filling a body, Dale was a unique an irreplaceable character. Have Dale for the first time ever take Hank’s advice on something only to be taken by the feds for doing so. Really? Lucky is usually cited as one of the worst things to happen to KotH, and Luanne being gone would only be slightly noticeable

Oh when Robot Jones used this voice, it’s was bad. But when AS uses it for their promo, it’s great. Really though, hype for this. And it looks like they are putting a little more into it than just tossing these shows on the air. Kinda reminds me of those old school bumpers where the various characters were in the break room or cafeteria.

>make a non argument blind insult towards something you took an L on >have it explained to you exactly why you are being served the L despite doing nothing but making an insult >double down, hit ‘em with the “BLOCKED BRO” >act like this doesn’t make your clown nose and wig get bigger Dont care if you don’t see this, others need to.

I told y’all it was a dumb idea to repeat the episode. Nobody wanted to listen. People actually believed going backwards, rerunning, then forwards was what the audience wanted. And they didn’t even announce any of this on air, so irregular viewers were thrown way off. They should have aired them both back to back the following week as they had done with SAO when it had its issue. Sorry that I was right.
-
Oof, I’d be willing to bet that might be the worst ratings average Toonami has ever had. It’s almost like an unannounced Dr Stone rerun rather than just pressing forward was a bad idea or something. But hey, at least they actually made the chart this week. A shame we won’t be able to see the two upcoming rerun marathons, they will probably make these numbers look like a home run. We need a lineup refresh ASAP with some actual new content. Grunge ain’t enough Demarco.

Interesting note about this episode, at release, Matt Shipman (Chrome) voiced Senku for the entire episode as Aaron Dismuke was unavailable. I don’t know when exactly Crunchyroll had it redubbed properly, but as we hear in the promo, Dismuke is back in the driver seat. I wonder if anyone will bother to preserve the Shipman dub or if it will just fade away as lost media.

What’s more surprising is that Demarco kept them around and somehow resisted the temptation to beat the reruns to death for 5 full years. He didn’t even beat them a little bit. Putting the normal schedule on ice that long doesn’t sound like the best idea. In that scenario at least half of Grunge airs on odd schedules which would be sure to harm its performance even further than it’s atrocious appearance will. With how long they have waited on AoT, I’d much rather see them either air both in one night, or air them back to back between two weeks later in the year. As for Dr Stone reruns, does it NEED a rerun? Most of the Toonami audience is one and done and isn’t interested in reruns. If the 9/9 schedule dropped with the MHA rerun removed I doubt anyone would care. Plus, with the odds of 2 new shows being super slim anyway, I could see something like this. 12 - Grunge 12:30 - New acquired show 1 - One Piece 1:30 - Naruto 2 - Dr Stone rerun 2:30 - MHA rerun Of course, followed up by empty promises of 2024 not sucking as hard which of course, they will not deliver on.

Well, that’s not how I expected them to cover these weeks, but it works. This is the first time since 2018 that either of these have aired, and if we have to see them again, I think most people will appreciate them bundled in two easy to skip nights. I wouldn’t hold your breath on any permanent expansion, they are just doing it to fit these in, but also not screw over Dr Stone watchers, and as usual with a Thursday show, those can’t stop for anything so Superman marches on. Once 9/9 drops we will be back to 6 slots. On that, here’s how 9/9 currently looks. 12 - empty 12:30 - empty 1 - empty 1:30 - One Piece 2 - Naruto 2:30 - MHA Of course, we know Grunge takes one of those slots, but 9/9 still remains a monumental shift for the block. And just to account for it, that OP on 8/19? That’s the last episode of the Punk Hazard bundle of episodes. I suppose the question to ask now is how long will they make us wait for the actual show reveals? They have effectively bought themselves yet another month of stalling, they could easily get away without revealing anything till the first days of September. Remember back in April when they claimed to be so close to announcing a show?

I at least understand why completely unregulated prostitution is frowned on, but if you are going to an ADULT theater which is obviously going to show porn to the audience, did they expect people to just chill and eat popcorn from a container that does NOT have their dick in it? Why even let the place exist at all if that was an issue? Just seems to me like someone was out to tank his career. -

Modern day AS would never have the balls to do something so absurd. Airing things like this are what helped put AS in the history books. I’ll never understand his “crime”. What do they expect you to do, watch porn and then walk out of the place with a big boner? -

That would also be an appropriate fit for the fall months. Something I think we have forgotten about was the show promised way back in April. I wonder if that’s still on the table or if they are just hoping everyone forgets they made that promise. -

I know I call out their dumb scheduling often, but even I don’t think they are dumb enough to think they can run those specials more than one time. Maybe they toss them on as filler for one of their certain marathon nights, but that’s just a guarantee of cratered numbers. Idk, I just figure with this being the actual for real end of AoT, they would make a big event over the finale. It’s -1 week of content in exchange for being able to promote a cool event, something they don’t get to do very often anymore. I dunno man, we have been chilling on Punk Hazard for what, 9 months? And I can count on my hands occurrences that were actually cool/interesting/well animated. If you aren’t a die hard fan of One Piece (or any anime) only the truly stand out moments are going to be worthwhile. And what hardcore OP fan is gonna subject themselves to this torture session a second time? This is certified “read the manga” territory. Most isekai are mid, I agree. It’s a genre that somehow despite gross oversaturation, manages to rarely fumble completely. But so many boil down to just being a fantasy adventure, often with the isekai element being tacked on in a way that is tossed out after the first episode. But you know what? Mid is a big step up from where Toonami has been lately. I admire his tenacity on the matter, but when the isekai craze is in year 7 with no signs of slowing down and entire anime seasons are literally half isekai, it might be time to just cave and give people what they apparently want. Especially when the other half of anime houses a lot of that super popular stuff that is now off limits. If they could get some stuff from the past few years that is NOT isekai, that would be the ideal path forward. But if they feel like they gotta draw from current year anime, it’s gonna be isekai or nothing. -
My Adventures with Superman Episode 5 Talkback
Toonamiguy321 replied to Jman's topic in Episode Discussion Archive
Well, I missed. Will be interesting to see where they take this now that the old formula is out the window. Superman is significantly weaker in this series and seems to be capable of taking damage from anything. As we saw in the first episode the robots beat him up real good, and it seems he has to manually trigger his healing. Since Superman has only existed in this story for like 2 weeks, I don’t see any reason anyone would be developing kryptonite weapons, they shouldn’t even know he is weak to that. I’d guess we will see a real piece of kryptonite in a later episode where everyone finds out he is weak to it.- 52 replies

Contemplating near-future Toonami schedule developments

My thought on AoT is it’s either going to air back to back with its second half during a special night, or it’s not going to air at all. It’s been ready for months, I really don’t see them saving it for a certain time and instead just can’t air it for whatever reason. I’d really rather we not have to rely on garbage isekai, I was simply illustrating a point that the most generic, uninspired, forgettable isekai of the season is an upgrade over Dressrosa, Naruto filler, or nothing. One Piece fans always say it has “great moments” but omit the part where it takes 25+ episodes of crap to get to that moment, often which amounts to maybe 2 minutes of quality. We could get through an entire trash isekai before One Piece does one memorable thing. At least a garbage isekai packs its bags after 12 weeks, and if it has just one enjoyable moment in that timeframe, it did its job. With the sheer volume of isekai on the market, I feel like the odds of Demarco landing on an irredeemable one are low, even if he picks entirely at random. Last season over half of ALL anime released was isekai. There’s no way all of them can be bad.
