In theory it’s a good idea. Skip boring setup episodes and get us right to the meat people care about. But in practice, they skipped the meat and left us with the setup. The only hope Rewind ever had of success was being a “best of” block. No one wants to start these shows over from S1 Ep1 on cable. My guide said episode 8 on Friday and swapped to episode 20 on Saturday, so I highly doubt this is a mistake and rather is a late term change made due to ratings. We have seen this with AS scheduling in the past, when something starts flopping, they start making abrupt and questionable changes. Ultimately it will probably only make things worse. We leave the action of Zabuza to go to the setup of the chunin exams. Rather than the more logical option of starting us right on the chunin exam fights. I think they grossly overestimated how many viewers want to watch 20+ year old shows with 200+ episodes at a pace of one per week. And now they are in a panic.

Absolutely not. If it dies, guess where all that shit ends up? I want this block to live as hard as I possibly can. But this is just realism, the block working was a longshot and the cracks are already showing. He said it MIGHT be a mistake, but it’s not reassuring that he isn’t certain. Because that implies skips aren’t off the table. If they wanted to skip something, they should have skipped the first 6 and started us on day 1 with the start of the Mist arc. Probably would have helped the numbers quite a bit.

Yea have puppet Brak riff the shows. Probably not DURING them, but after the fact. But that was my point, that’s too much work and far too clever for AS. As you point out, they would rather just paste the characters on a few bumpers and never change them.

Major news about Rewind. After episode 7 of Naruto, they are straight up skipping 13 episodes and going straight to the chunin exam arc. The recent schedule shuffle was worrying, but had some logic to it. This change is a bright red alert that Rewind is failing. If Jason “we can’t skip a single episode” Demarco is willing to skip 13 (actually kinda decent Zabuza arc) episodes to get us to what most fans cite as the best and most memorable arc of the entire series, then this block is dire. Those betting that Rewind wouldn’t make it to the end of summer might end up being right. Sentai has been on the table since 2015. Years ago they were begging fans to convince Demarco to air more of their shows. Toonami has NEVER had a problem with finding content. Their problem is Demarco turns his nose up at everything unless it’s super popular. Which unfortunately Sentai doesn’t get too much of. They have quite a few seasonal hits, but those aren’t good enough for Demarco.

They have the perfect set up for it really. These early wedding arc episodes are just solo character stories, so the next 2 won’t feel too out of place if they park The Last on Aug 3, then blow through the last 4 the following week. This shouldn’t be that hard or expensive of a deal to hammer out with Viz if they really wanted to put the effort forward.

Sure, but a big reason people started falling off it was because they let the schedule grow stagnant. Rather than fix that, they seem to be trying to evolve the block into something entirely new. If it actually is MST3k style with Brak, they could air all kinds of shit in a “new” way. But, I doubt they are that creative.
-
Oh don’t you worry, there is still plenty of room to fall. Superman has been chilling pretty comfortably between 170-200k. We could see high end 130-140k numbers, or if it really turns people off we might even see double digits at midnight. Especially if there are no acquired shows to go along with this. One Piece and Naruto aren’t worth sitting through a bad subbed show. I’d even argue Demon Slayer alone probably isn’t enough to salvage this since so many people watched ahead.

This block feels like it’s rapidly losing its identity. Like this might be kinda funny for AS diehards but what does Brak have to do with classic CN shows? Between this and What a Cartoon being added it feels like this will become MST2K for cartoons hosted by Brak. Wait hold up that sounds hilarious

What an absolutely moronic way to go about this. Leading with subs of a show Toonami fans are not excited for is going to be brutal for the ratings. And despite their claims of intelligence, most R&M fans who give this a chance will just watch Thursday so they don’t have to read. For once I somewhat agree with one of your theories and really hope you are right. Naruto fans have dedicated over 10 years of service to the block, give them a nice send off. Nah, if AS won’t let us premier the dub, we don’t want it. If they do burn off Naruto, they need at least 2 new shows to carry this schedule If R&M didn’t get us an expansion forward, nothing will. Toonami is never airing earlier than midnight again.

Zero chance that AS has a contract entitling them to it. They might get it. I’d say if they manage to land MHA, they have good odds of getting Fire Force. But as with anything from Crunchyroll, getting it means fighting tooth and nail for it and likely more schedule gaps to pay for it.

Zero chance of that. Funimation did not like the deal they made with AS with AoT. It took too much power out of their hands. Dont forget, Funimation had a few stints of being tough to work with long before CR came around. They definitely did sign away the rights to anything long term.

The amount of people who even know what it is, let alone that it’s another repurposed CN show, it’s probably pretty low. I’d say most reaction we see is a little confusion if it doesn’t feel like AS material from the clip. I’d like to take a moment to point out how hilarious it is to me that Demarco is working on a show all about cock.

Rooster Fighter has now been removed from the list. Demarco is likely seething that his announcement has been spoiled. That aside, if a full episodes of R&M anime is being shown here, that pretty much guarantees its spot on the August 3rd schedule. And unfortunately, this is the first official confirmation of Invincible Fight Girl being on AS, so they didn’t budge.

Now we are cooking. Shit that will feel like it belongs on AS and not after school? Sign me up. Maybe AS could even be pioneers and air some uncensored anime titties late at night. Their S&P is the only thing holding them back. Big fat anime titties bouncing on my screen for 3 hours and I’d have ZERO complaints -
Strangely it’s not. Kai on Rewind will still be 3-4 episodes behind Saturday with this change. Which furthers my assumption that this is a ratings based changed going into effect as soon as possible without having to resubmit online schedules. The 19th is the week before Saturday goes offline for Superman, then the week after could be anything, so maybe the change is tied to something happening on Saturday in August.

Not a good sign for the block getting a schedule shuffle this early in its life. Tells us the numbers are already not where they need to be. BUT, double Kai was the #1 complaint for the block, so they are making the exact change people were asking for. And even moving Naruto up means people can watch 90 straight minutes then just bail, at least till Kai reaches non Saturday episodes. And on that topic, take a hint AS, Kai needs to be off Saturday in August. It’s failing on Rewind because you are trying to double dip on it.

What I Want To See Looking Forward...
Toonamiguy321 replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Give me a decent lineup and I won’t have anything to complain about. It’s as easy as that. I didn’t have any issues with the block from Jan-Apr except for them getting Kai back. How can I appreciate what we have, when what we currently have is shit? A 2 hour block of premiers, which next week will be 3x long runners. And the rest is reruns which I care nothing about. And our most likely future is visual vomit R&M anime literally no one asked for, or Suicide Squad Isekai which looks more appealing because it’s not R&M. Acquisitions? Never heard of em. You suggest an action/anime block run by an out of touch TV executive, as if that’s not exactly what we have right now. Demarco doesn’t know shit about modern anime and scoffs at everything that is popular because all he can think about is Jump and 30-40 year old garbage. And he barely even knows about the Jump content itself, he just picks it up and hopes for the best since Jump is usually a safe bet. If you want my pipe dream, I want an ANIME block run by someone who actually knows shit about anime. Someone who wants to license what’s hot, regardless of his own personal opinions on it. Someone who doesn’t waste the budget on vanity projects everyone hates just so he can have his name in the credit reel. But alas, it’s way too late in the game to ever see that kind of change. That being said, it’s equally likely as some of the super optimistic theories where Toonami gets a magical expansion and miraculously can pick up a bunch of new shows, despite years of evidence showing they can’t/wont do so. -
In a new interview with the Japan Times, Junji Ito confirms that the first four episodes of Toonami's Uzumaki are completed. I don’t see the word “of” in there. Though if that’s the case, it means only 15 more years till the show drops! Get hype

What I Want To See Looking Forward...
Toonamiguy321 replied to Mr. Idea Box's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Demarco will do none of that. He is gonna keep chasing whatever Jump properties he can. Not having to consider saving money for sequel seasons of MHA, Dr Stone, etc might give them the budget flexibility for something like JJK. Of course, that will destroy the quality of the rest of the year since they are more than happy to spend the majority of the years budget on a single chase show just so Demarco can feel like his dying block still has some relevance. I wouldn’t expect Rewind to get longer so long as Fox shows are around. If AS was smart, their KotH and Bobs renewal contract were at least 5 years long. They know how rough things were in that brief window in 2021 when they lost Family Guy. We don’t even know if Rewind is doing well enough to keep its current time. Good news about IFG, I don’t think its trip to AS is set in stone. Shortly after the first leak about it moving to AS, some other insiders claimed that was not decided yet. Still some hope for it to get a proper home at least. Only reason Ninja Kamui is getting excessive reruns is cause it’s an original. And as a bonus other originals did not have, it has a Switch game to shill. It’s dumb, and makes a show people didn’t completely hate less appealing, but the suits want their ROI, and after the CR originals got written off mid rerun, I can see why they don’t want to risk a wait. Tldr when these series end, Demarco will still be in charge and stupid as he ever was. He will chase shows he can’t get and we will have shit schedules for months at a time since he never had a fallback plan. -
The AUDACITY to call these “the first four” when it took over 5 fucking years to finish these. There isn’t gonna be a renewal chief

Demon Slayer will conclude its final arc as a movie trilogy
Toonamiguy321 replied to Jman's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Yea no doubt they will chop these up into 22 minute episodes so these can air on Japanese TV at some point. Of course, that won’t be for a long time since they need to milk these in theatres + sell Blu rays. So I’d guess best case scenario for Toonami is 3-5 years from now. Zero chance the films air in film form. -
A double up on an original and a network property? I can’t see it. Especially since I expect them to give a disproportionate spotlight to Rick when it starts. SS would get completely overshadowed airing at the same time. Plus, they like to keep stuff like this as lead content, burning two at once means 9-10 weeks one of them didn’t get to be the lead show. Not a smart play, the dub is already up on pirate sites, if people care about it, they have easy access to it. If they are planning on airing it they should have it announced by now so people know what’s going on. There is no good reason to keep this secret.
-
They are saying summer for Rick, so I don’t see where SS fits in. If they start it on Aug 3 with a 2 episode premier, that has it ending exactly on Sept 28 which would allow Uzumaki (lol) to start in October. I suppose if Uzumaki is the vaporware we all assume it is at this point, SS can start in October and carry us to the end of the year. But would they keep the dub hidden away for that long? I don’t think so. I guess if the summer report for Rick was incorrect, it could be the October show which is right around the time regular Rick starts a new season. I’d assume Rick would be getting over a month of promotion before premiering and we are real close to that. I don’t think it’s out of line to expect some kind of news tomorrow morning, but at the absolute latest if we don’t hear something by next Friday it’s going to look pretty unlikely that Rick starts Aug 3.
