I think that’s the schedule most would prefer. Mid block reruns are always an annoyance. Apparently the world would collapse if One Piece spent 3-4 weeks at 1am. I’ll never understand why they are so obsessive about preserving timeslots, especially in the case of OP which often goes weeks at a time absent from the schedule. Niche magazine shonen like Blue Exorcist is the kind of stuff I want to see them go for more often, it’s just super annoying that when they finally do, it’s one they already aired when there were so many other options they could have gone with from Aniplex, who seems to be not only accommodating to Toonami’s struggles, but glad to work with the block. Mob S1 rerun says hi It’s a slap in the face to the audience. At the start of 2024, Toonami was a 5 premier block. At the end of 2024, Toonami is a 3 premier block. Replacing yet another premier with a rerun is bad optics, even if 6 months from now they start the new season, which I will stress is not a guarantee. By the time it might start, Mashle will have already aired both of its seasons, so the gaps don’t start. Like 90% correct. Not being able to use magic is the greatest sin in their universe, so while he does punch and kick his way through all his problems, he has to pretend like it’s magic.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd
Toonamiguy321 replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
As with most western shows, it’s 10 episodes. So we should finish it before 2025 -
Why not just air it now? One Piece skipped 3 canon arcs and it was fine. There is no reason to do a 6 month long rerun (half of which is non canon and retconned) to start a new season. I also recall people apply this logic to the Mob rerun a few years ago, only for S2 to never materialize. We very well could get to the end of BE and just have it leave never to be heard from again. You and anyone else who needed a recap could have taken the next 2.5 weeks to recap it yourself instead of all of us sitting through a 6 month long rerun with zero guarantees they will even get the new seasons. “I don’t wanna stream it” ok I don’t want it clogging a premier slot for 6 months. Here’s a hypothetical way they might shuffle things up if Daima is on the table after its theater premier, now that you mention it, it makes some sense of why BE is where it’s at 12 - IFG 12:30 - Daima 1 - Mashle 1:30 - One Piece 2 - Blue Exorcist 2:30 - MHA S6 3 - Rick and Morty This scenario also works out for MHA S7 if they opt for that instead. Slot Kai at 2:30 instead.

Lazarus trailer debuts following NYCC panel

Trusting a Jason Demarco anime trailer? Could not be me. -
Yea ok, this is not how I expected the schedules to shape up at all. It’s not in the way I expected, but they do seem to be saving MHA (in the optimistic scenario they have it) for the lead show in January. With how far behind they already are, that’s a smart move. Mashle has been on people’s prediction list for awhile now. I have no idea why it took them this long to get it. A nice little curveball. But why the fuck did they waste precious budget getting Blue Exorcist back, especially to air it that early in the night? You were there in the Aniplex catalog, why did you not get something new? “B-b-but it hasn’t run in nearly 10 years!” Don’t matter, Toonami viewers don’t tolerate reruns. Toonami is now 4/7 reruns. A bad little curveball. And on the topic of reruns, why is Kai still on the block? It is now multiple episodes behind Rewind. I don’t understand why they are so obsessed with keeping the block seven slots long when they don’t have the content for it. Unless Kai is sitting there waiting till they can announce Daima after the theater run. Demarco almost had a W schedule update here but blew it by parking a paid rerun right in the middle of everything.
-
Who the FUCK is Frank? Why are they ending on this? None of this matters. Not one episode of it thus far has mattered. I’m angry at myself for actually giving this all 10 weeks of my attention.

Is it illegal for news sites to use any images for Rick and Morty besides this one and the one where Rick is holding Morty’s eyes open? Anyway, you can see their confidence in the series is heavily fading only doing a 2 season renewal this time around. Or maybe it’s just normalizing, the original renewal was abnormally large

Oh no doubt, but it should cool off on cable a little. On 11/5 millions of people nationwide will turn on their news network of choice and just leave it on as background noise for 8-12 hours. That will inflate quite a few individual programs across the day. After the results are in though, people will return to their regularly scheduled tweets and reddit posts to be happy and/or angry.

Trump rally on Newsmax - 784k Uzumaki on Adult Swim - 129k Smidged it out in the demo, sure. But I guarantee you Demarco would spread his cheeks if it meant pulling 784k viewers to Toonami again. Anyway, I do hope SotB can start doing this reliably week to week again. I’m sure we all want to see how IFG does, but given it premiers the same week as a certain other event, I’d wager the various news networks will completely blow out the top 400 chart on SpoilerTV. So it’s nice having that alternative source.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd

That’s even more out of place than on Toonami. Do they think people won’t notice this is a kids show? -
I don’t think CR is holding up the announcement. Since Toonami gets so few things to announce these days, they want to space them out. IFG gets the current shine. They are holding back 11/2 likely because it telegraphs MHA S7. They want that to take shine from IFG as little as possible. I think we can count on our hands how many times in Toonami history they have announced more than 1 thing at a time. Every time we have a multiple show exit schedule, we theorize what the big shuffle will be, but every time they spread it out across multiple weeks so nothing is stacked up. I really hope they do land Hashira Training for this last stretch of the year. Like Mugen Train, it’s the perfect fit for us to finish one more thing in 2024. No chance. Thats just basic business. You want people to think they have to go to the theater to maximize 3 days profits. Especially if they are set on it only being 3 days with no extensions.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd

I had seen the staff kinda tempering expectations on there being more before it premiered, so I think even they didn’t know. The final episode is also written in a very “this is the last episode” kind of way. Superman and Toonami go together, I don’t know why they thought this show couldn’t stand on the block. People have been wanting a return to this for a long time. The ol “what if Superman was actually a dick” thing ran its course. Technically, MAWS is supposed to be Lois Lanes show, featuring special guest star Superman and Jimmy, but it still feels like it’s Superman’s show where he gets to be a good boy and help people. I don’t expect the staff to do a Jack S5 pivot, but I do expect the staff to use slight increase in freedom for the new seasons. Some aspects, such as the junior reporter team, feel like aspects added to the show purely because it was going to be a kids show. Max still wants it on the kids section, but I don’t think they run as tight of a ship as CN. Anyway, back to the topic at hand, unlike Superman, IFG doesn’t have any long term fans showing up to give it a chance, or willing to look past some of the more childish aspects. So it’s gonna need some kind of miracle to gain enough traction for an S2. -
Yea i really don’t get it. IFG was announced and will very likely be the only new thing on 11/2 so I really don’t see the need to hold out. There is no suspense, we already know what’s happening. Earlier this year they had been doing good with prompt schedule updates, but now when it counts they are falling off again.

I’m on the Jman team here, I want this to flop for two reasons. One, so it goes away, and second, as Jman said, it’s yet another western project that has no original ideas of its own and it just going to rip off anime for 10 episodes. The west needs to get out of this rut. The lead also seems like she is going to be insufferable. Well, Superman got to premier S2 on Toonami and got a 2 season renewal out of the deal. I’m thinking IFG is just something they do not care about at all so they are tossing it to Toonami as late year slot coverage. -
Interesting change to make last second. My guess is the main goal here is bringing the block back to 3 hours once the schedules settle, and Kai is leaving to accomplish that goal. As you say, the long term goal might be replacing our DB fix with Daima, but with MHA keeping pace over Halloween, I’d say S7 is their current priority. They are still hiding the 11/2 schedule for some reason, which probably won’t drop till Friday, so that either has a curveball or MHA burnoff.

I agree, excluding that screencap of the girl with no hand, this episode didn’t have any blatantly shitty animation. It’s still a downgrade, but I think had this been episode 2, the outrage wouldn’t have been nearly as loud. Demarco was too quick to throw this under the bus to cover his own ass. That said, if we weren’t bitching about animation, we would have our full focus on the awful pacing and structure. Just take the end of the episode for example. 1. The neighbor guy turns into a spiral monster and attacks the family 2. After a short chase he is blown away by the wind? 3. Immediately pivot to new story, Jack in the Box has returned 4. Does absolutely nothing but show up and fall apart 5. Upon seeing a seemingly dead person reappear and attack you, a person you watched willingly walk in front of a car for your sake, Kirie barely reacts at all 6. Cut to credits episode over It’s a mess. It feels more like a comedy than a horror show

Well, how long did we have to wait for a Super dub? I don’t think Toei is against waiting a little when it comes to the dub. If they free it from theaters after Thanksgiving weekend, that only puts it an extra 1-2 episodes behind.
-
Going into the episode with expectations? Here’s a shot from the 30 second promo where one of the women in the hospital wasn’t drawn with a hand.
-
Daima second chance over Thanksgiving weekend when lots of people have time off just sounds like a free money printing machine. I think Daima looks like toddler fanfic slop, but I’m not gonna pretend that it’s not gonna do numbers in the theaters either. Wouldn’t surprise me at all if they have already planned this, but want use hype to push more encore tickets. It’s funny, normally I’d be the one saying something like this. But ever since Naruto ended I have just been so zen with whatever happens. If it’s stupid I’ll say so, but at this point it’s just keeping up with the news. Toonami has become so incredibly predictable it’s hard to even be mad. I don’t consider the R&M dub being added in November to be speculation, it’s exactly what I expect to happen. There is no plan, and there hasn’t been one for a long time. It’s just whatever falls into place at a given moment. If nothing does, roll out the schedule filler.
-
I just figured they would pair the two together. There is never really a good time to air HCC otherwise. Too short to be in the rerun cycle. I mean, I’m not watching a rerun marathon regardless, I just find it to be a strange choice. I can see they seem to have a goal with MHA completing but still. If you are doing a Halloween marathon, you would think they would whip out their Halloween appropriate schedule filler.
-
I have kinda given up on them growing a brain and dropping Kai. I guess they could do this schedule 12 - IFG 12:30 - MHA S7 1 - One Piece 1:30 - Rick and Morty (dub) 2 - IGPX 2:30 - Demon Slayer Swordsmith Village Mix those reruns up however you see fit. It’s doable to drop Kai, I just don’t think they want to and like to double dip. Demarco usually makes the wrong choice, but I feel like they wouldn’t with Daima. If it’s not airing, that means they don’t have it. We have to remember it’s easily the most expensive license on the market, even with a Toei friendship discount it won’t be cheap. They may not be able to swing it. I say we can’t write it off till the 11/16 schedule drops. Thats the first week after the theater premier. That could be a factor in a delay too, if it’s a smash hit, they may want to extend its mileage in the theater. On the topic of pointless delays though, why was the 11/2 schedule not dropped today? With IFG already announced, Toonami should have a full schedule out to go with that. I highly doubt anything but IFG is on the 11/2 schedule, so why hold it till next Friday?
-
We will never know since as with most reruns, it won’t do well enough to be reported. I think just blowing through the rest on 11/2 makes the most sense. The only thing it delays is One Piece, and it’s not like 1 missed episode is making a dent in our 500+ deficit we will never catch up on. They want to start it ASAP so it gets rolling a little before the holiday delays. I know 10/26 isn’t shorter time wise due to Uzumaki running long, but it is a subtle return to 6 slots, I expect that to stick going into future weeks.
-
As expected, Uzumaki marathon for 10/26. As not expected, they aren’t using this opportunity to air the dub. 2.5 hours of subs seems like a disaster, especially with opinion of Uzumaki in a freefall. Also kind of surprised to see them not use this opportunity to run HCC.
-
Given the short nature of Hashira Training, I could see them taking that option to carry us to the new year. They are already super behind on MHA, and will likely have a comparable delay on S8, there isn’t much harm in waiting till January where it can be the lead show until the next smelly original is ready to air. They need to tactically utilize the few acquired shows they can still get since that pool is ever dwindling. Definitely agree it’s long past time to cut back down to 6 slots. The schedule looks shitty enough without having 90 minutes of reruns at the end of it.

Invincible Fight Girl premieres on Toonami on November 2nd
Toonamiguy321 replied to Sketch's topic in Toonami & [adult swim]
Whats surprising about it? No one cares about this, no sense trying to cash in on Thursday with this one. This is disappointing, but not surprising news. Two more slots to deal with now. Id say best case scenario, they drop MHA S7 in on the 9th for 12:30. How can they get there? It’s simple. Run IFG for an hour, then after that utilize DST to blast through what’s left of MHA. Normally, that would be a stupid idea, but when the block has no other noteworthy premiers, who cares? One Piece fans know they gotta pay back all those double ups so they will deal. So this will be 11/9 12 - IFG 12:30 - MHA S7 1 - One Piece 1:30 some rerun 2 - some rerun 2:30 - some rerun Once again, utilize the DST change confusion to sneak in a a cut and get the block back to 3 hours. And solve the problem of needing 3 premier shows by simply deleting one of the open slots. If they are feeling generous, and have any extra ones in the tank, One Piece can always take 1:30 as well, up to how much they can spare before the Jan reset. Remember, there are only 6 regular Toonami nights left starting 11/9, so it isn’t that long for them to be in a holding pattern.
